For those with access to a garden.
Do you like pottering or relaxing in the garden on a day like today?
Do like to go out

sometimes but.....
You need shade when out which you can't always find and you've got to think or Food and Drink.
Everything's at hand in the garden.
Anyone doing this today rather than going out.
#garden
#chillout
#sunshine.

I love sitting in the garden, I miss the DC being little when they were happy to sit tipping water about or playing with cars outside.
Now they only really want to hoof a ball about and if they can't do that they go on screens.
I'm childfree this weekend so am relaxing in the shade enjoying the peace. The only thing spoiling it is the pong from whatever the farm has spread on the fields wafting about.

I love to sit on my patio reading with a cup of tea / glass of wine, depending on the time of day. Unfortunately my next door neighbours have two EXTREMELY NOISY BOYS (aged about 8 and 6) who yell and shout all the fricking time. And the parents yell at them too. The other day I was woken up to the sound of Dad shouting "just get in the fucking car!".

What's the point in having a dog and barking yourself?

Garden all the way. Otherwise, just get a flat or house without one and go to a park etc enjoy nice weather - it will save yourself the bother and expense of the upkeep.

RobinEllacotStrike · 11/05/2024 15:29

My garden is a mess so not relaxing- hope to sort it out a bit tomorrow.

I live close to the beach and I go most days. I can travel light to beach - book, towel, water - and then retreat home for home comfort when I'm done. It's really life changing great to be able to do this.

bilgewater · 11/05/2024 15:30

Not really. Just got home hoping for an afternoon in the garden. The neighbours at the front are jet washing their drive and the neighbours at the back are jet washing their patio. Add that to extensive and noisy building work going on at two houses further down the street, and I'd much rather go back out and about!

There are few things I like more than sitting in a hammock in my garden reading on a day like today

forgotmyusername1 · 11/05/2024 16:05

Draco said it best. I like to potter

Gardens are lovely, but take work, lawnmowing, weeding etc. Painting Fences.
Best room in the house though when it's sunny.

purplesparklydinosaur · 11/05/2024 16:27

Allotment for us. Not at home so no housework - lovely allotment neighbours, we have a nice set up for DS (sand and water tray, sponge ball, climbing frame and play house). I have beers in my shed and we are currently trying to make friends with a crow.

BeyondMyWits · 11/05/2024 16:44

We have a tiny garden in an estate of back to back gardens, so it is not pleasant being outdoors ATM. There are young kids in maybe 5 out of the 9 gardens... 3 lots are screaming in water play. 1 lot (over the back fence have been screaming and shouting and squealing for 5 lonnnnnnnnng hours minus a pleasant 20 min lunch). Still, took the opportunity to cut the grass, so I was noisy for half an hour too. Won't be sunny for much longer, so got to make the most of it.

I’ve enjoyed my week in the garden, and no traffic jams! 👍

oldgreysquirreltest · 11/05/2024 17:02

I'm lying in a hammock in my garden with a glass of wine right now. Not much will convince me to queue with bastards in this weather.

coxesorangepippin · 11/05/2024 17:02

I far prefer the garden

It's so relaxing

CharSiu · 11/05/2024 17:12

I did go out for lunch but as DS is an adult it is very relaxing to be back in the garden. We have a patio at the end of the garden with two garden sofas and a table. It’s surrounded by mature silver birch trees and a type of willow tree and my a decent size acer. There is a laurel tree and hawthorn tree further down the garden. We get a lot of birds which I really like.

stargazer02 · 11/05/2024 17:24

I like the idea of chilling in the garden but there's so much needing done out here I find it hard to relax. Currently sitting out figuring my budget to get it all fixed!

LindorDoubleChoc · 11/05/2024 17:34

My ndn's very loud kids are now playing a game where they are pretending to be monkeys in the jungle and making the same amount of racket of a large family of monkeys. Parents sitting outside, oblivious or not caring how it intrudes on neighbours. They're probably just enjoying the break from them constantly fighting, hurting each other and whining. I suppose I am too.

Not the same going to the park.

Spent most day in garden not chilling though weeding they flipping grow back as soon as I have them pulled, don’t use weed killer much more hard work but kinder to bees etc.

Have front lawn done, in for tea and fruit cake and mumsnet scroll, time to get out again to do back lawn, my two cats and dog enjoying this lovely weather.

Have a party coming up so need to do big sanding/varnishing job too.

Enjoy the day everyone. 🌞

Love pottering in the garden on a sunny day (by which I mean sitting in a comfy chair reading my book, and later with a cold aperitif). It's peaceful and private and everything is at hand. My DH doesn't really like sitting in the sun so he's relaxing inside - it's all good.

Lemonyfuckit · 11/05/2024 19:11

I meant to do gardening as it needs tidying up and weeding, but chose the lazier form of pottering in the garden instead. Have put a couple of loads of laundry out to dry outside though (will obviously bring it in before it gets darked on....).

ManchesterLu · 11/05/2024 19:20

To be honest, we get so few "perfect" days IMO (not too hot, cold, windy, cloudy etc) that when I get days that are my ideal, I will sit and read all day. I've done it today and I've had the best time.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 11/05/2024 19:27

Like a mix, out one day home the next, or out AM and garden PM. Had a lovely afternoon today in the sun in the garden, 7yr old entertaining herself with garden toys or bubbles

Mimilamore · 11/05/2024 20:01

Bi t of both here, can potter for a few days but always end up doing something strenuous!

Then we go to places we know don't get horrendously busy as live a change of scenery and to see the flowers we don't have.

Nice when I get home though so I think I need one to enjoy the other!

Mimilamore · 11/05/2024 20:03

Oh and I'm a 2 minute walk from a quiet beach so no awful traffic jams to get to water... glamorous it ain't but undiscovered even by locals ( deprived area)

socks1107 · 11/05/2024 11:40

I love pottering about at home on warm days. Clean house in the morning and then relax in the garden until late evening. It's so nice

That sums up my day today x
