Does anyone enjoy sitting in the garden rather than going out on hot days?

For those with access to a garden.
Do you like pottering or relaxing in the garden on a day like today?
Do like to go out

sometimes but.....
You need shade when out which you can't always find and you've got to think or Food and Drink.
Everything's at hand in the garden.
Anyone doing this today rather than going out.

#chillout
#sunshine.

With mates: garden or park
Solo: park or a walk

MadKittenWoman · 11/05/2024 13:30

Yeah, pottering in the garden with a Cuba Libre!

Disturbia81 · 11/05/2024 13:32

Definitely privacy of my garden

Moier · 11/05/2024 13:34

I love both.
Sitting in my garden ( don't garden .. have a gardener.. ) but love days out to the countryside or coast.
Where l live its easy to drive to the Dales or pennines or North York moors etc or anywhere on East Coast.

When people say pottering, what is actually meant by this?

Bit of gardening, bit of sunbathing, bit of drinking, more gardening, more sunbathing, more drinking, on repeat until barbecue for dinner.

ByTheSea · 11/05/2024 13:37

Hanging in my garden this beautiful weekend! 😁

100% staying at home pottering in the garden, lying in the hammock for a bit, then more pottering, then inside to cool down, back outside.....and repeat!

This

I’m lucky to have a sandy beach at the end of the road so I’ll do a bit of garden today but will head down there mid afternoon for a swim and maybe a few beers on the beach.

Sounds divine

ConsuelaHammock · 11/05/2024 13:52

Home and garden everytime. All I can hear atm are birds and cows. It’s bliss. I don’t want to see or hear other people or their dogs and children when it’s nice weather.

Elsewhere123 · 11/05/2024 13:58

My garden always, my artwork of flowers, selection of tasty veg (possibly) and battlefield with slugs, caterpillars, sun, rain and frost and the best shade under my leafing tree.

CantBelieveNaive · 11/05/2024 14:03

Absolutely adore a hot day and putting in plants, 🌴🌵🌱🌿🍀🌾 Having an Aperol, ice cream and nibbles whenever I want! Perfection 👌🍀😜💕🌴🥂😁

Blanketpolicy · 11/05/2024 14:06

I go nowhere unless necessary when it is hot. I have always hated the heat, I get prickly heat and burn easily, so it is probably just as well I live in Scotland.

We have a north facing living room with patio doors out to the north facing garden so we get shade most of the day.

Only time we go out when it is really hot is if we are going somewhere indoors or when we had the dog we would walk in dense woods where it is cool.

andHelenknowsimmiserablenow · 11/05/2024 14:20

Home and garden on a hot day. Love it. Water the plants, put the umbrella up, get a beer and read the paper. It would be amazing if one of my neighbours hadn't been either jetwashing or using a wood chipper for bloody hours.

Rudicoolcat · 11/05/2024 14:23

@MadKittenWoman has my day mapped out! Husband returned from errands to post office and shop with a bonus couple of beers🍻 and snacks to me after I've done three loads of washing, bed changed and grass mown... (before the comments start, he had open heart surgery last year, and I love our petrol lawnmower, you just hang on tight and point it in the right direction...😂)

Blissfully pottering now for the rest of the day/evening.

One of my neighbours has been out with a mower and a strimmer

Since 11.30. I've come inside now as the noise is annoying even with earplugs

KnittedCardi · 11/05/2024 14:32

Was happily pottering until the local farmer decided to have a huge bonfire. Git. Had to go inside and close all the windows. Really quite grumpy tbh.

Getonwitit · 11/05/2024 14:34

I am not of the mind set that i have to be out every weekend doing something. I love being in my home or garden with just the sound of the waves, the birds and the coo's and sheep.

catgirl1976 · 11/05/2024 14:38

I would love nothing more than to sit in garden, snooze I’m the hammock and go in when I am too hot.

but DH is currently putting together his new bike so we can all go for a “fun” family bike ride. And I’ve just had to go to Argos to get a pump for it and know that it is swarming with people out there and too hot for such things. But he’s been at the bike an hour so I can’t really say that 🙄

Coldsore · 11/05/2024 14:41

3 small children and 100-% garden. All the toys, hose, paddling pool, suncream, changes of clothes, able to come immediately when hot, loos, snacks, drinks.

they don’t ever seem to tire of it either as it’s such a novelty to have it so beautiful in the UK. No need to go out at all and everyone has a great time.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2024 14:44

A bit of both.
But I can't sit and relax in my own garden without thinking of things that need doing. I'm on holiday today so we've been for a glorious walk this morning, and are now back at our accommodation to chill out for a bit. Well, DH is chilling on the bed, I'm basking in the sun!Grin

AuntieMarys · 11/05/2024 14:44

2 adults....we've been to a local market town this morning...coffee and a mooch..then for a pint.
Now home about to sit out....having told next doors builders to pack it in 🤣

potatowine · 11/05/2024 14:47

I love pottering in my garden. All the plants I have chosen are bee/ pollinator friendly and many are scented.
I have a lovely seating area surrounded by these plants and to sit there with eyes closed on the lounger, breathing in the scent and listening to the distant buzz of hover flies and bees is unrivalled.
Prosecco or home made cocktail to hand !

daffodilandtulip · 11/05/2024 14:49

I like the idea of the garden but I'm currently listening to next door watching peppa pig on the iPad and having a FaceTime conversation, someone using an axle grinder, someone hammering, a jet washer, several lawnmowers and hedge strummers ... and the people who have gone out instead of potter have all left their dogs in the garden barking at all the above people. And I've just had to go in and close all the windows for the billowing smoke from garden fires as no one will pay the new garden bin tax.

TheChosenTwo · 11/05/2024 15:04

Pottering sounds way too much like housework but in the garden to me. I do not potter.
I prefer to be in the garden on hot sunny days - everywhere else is rammed, I don’t want to drive an hour to the beach to have to spend another hour queueing to park to then squeeze onto a crowded beach only
to not be able to swim in the sea cos it’s fucking freezing!
I love the beach when it’s cold, not so much in the U.K. sun.
Garden for me today but it’s being renovated and I’m injured so I’m just sitting with my book and the listening to the sounds around me, was going to move to the lounger but the clouds have arrived so I guess summer is over 😂
