For those with access to a garden.
Do you like pottering or relaxing in the garden on a day like today?
Do like to go out

sometimes but.....
You need shade when out which you can't always find and you've got to think or Food and Drink.
Everything's at hand in the garden.
Anyone doing this today rather than going out.
#garden
#chillout
#sunshine.

Uber eats! I've just ordered some booze, pop and everything for a BBQ. Hot tub is cooling down and the pool is warming up 🤣 DH is back on that shall we get a JCB to dig a proper pool......I might just go out will be cheaper!!

When DS was little we went out more but we had a smaller garden and less fun house. Can see why those without a nice space just go out it would be depressing stuck inside in this weather

When people say pottering, what is actually meant by this?

My "pottering" plans today:
Hang washing out first thing.
Stroll around like an old girl admiring new blooms.
Put sofa cushions on.
Out for an hour so this morning gym/errands
Some washing in, more washing out.
Cuppa and lunch on the sofa outside.
Back in to sort children for a bit.
We'll all head out soon and I'll plant some bedding plants which have been waiting to go in while children play/find mischief/help.
More sitting and cuppas.
Do some admin/online shopping outside.
Chat and put the world to rights with DH
"Potter" around pulling weeds and deadheading and pondering longer term garden plans.
Will probably get roped in to a game of swing ball, some hula hooping, catch, football or other garden game.
Cook dinner, will probably eat outside if the children are up for it.
Washing in, toys packed away.
Will relax with a glass of something outside this evening.
So yeah, pottering 😍

Furrydogmum · 11/05/2024 12:29

My washing is in the garden, I'm in the house with the blinds shut and a fan! #overweight fairskinned redhead 😬

I don’t mind going for a drive and getting a takeaway coffee to sit somewhere but avoid busy places. But yes, mostly I prefer my garden. Even this heat and brightness is too much for my ailing body but I sit under a big tree when out and usually listen to my audiobook and look at the birds and insects. I can also go inside, where it’s cooler (soon to be air conditioned) when it gets too much. And like others say, there’s access to the loo and cold drinks at all times!

Thejackrussellsrule · 11/05/2024 12:33

Having a blissful day in the garden, I'm in the countryside and for once there's no wind and rain. DH has gone out for the day, kids all grown up and left home, just me, the dogs, an iced coffee, sunshine and peace.

I've put my seedlings outside to acclimatise before being planted, pulled some nettles out, watered plants and fed the roses. Now I'm on the sofa drinking a glass of water, just done Duolingo now faffing on Mumsnet. Probably will have a lunch of stuff from the fridge and then pull a few more weeds out later and maybe read a book. Husband is talking about a bike ride but I'd much rather potter today.

CosmosQueen · 11/05/2024 12:38

I’m pottering at home, so far I have walked the dog very early (7.30 am), come home and tidied up, spent an hour sorting out a border at the bottom of the garden, had a shower and changed, sat in the garden knitting and listening to a podcast for an hour and cooked the lunch.
More sitting outside this afternoon, bliss 😊

Eukanuba · 11/05/2024 12:40

Have been to the garden centre first thing , before the rush . Washing on the go , quick cup of tea and then planning to spend the rest of the day gardening and lazing in the sunshine - bliss .😊

buffyslayer · 11/05/2024 12:45

I'm lazing about with the cat
With earplugs in as everyone seems to have got their strimmers out

Justmuddlingalong · 11/05/2024 12:47

I've been pottering all morning, before the sun gets round to the patio.
Washing's out, grass is cut, been to the garden centre and potted up what I've bought. The bird feeders have been filled and DP's re-oiling one of the benches. I'm just off for a shower because the sun's almost at my "sit, relax, enjoy a cold drink" position.

LoobyDop · 11/05/2024 12:57

I love being in the garden more than anything, except maybe being at the beach. Right now I’m watching my husband plant out some sweet peas and tomatoes, then we’ll eat out here, then I’ll have a little sleep on the MN-proscribed grey plastic rattan sofa. Lovely!

BashfulClam · 11/05/2024 12:58

My neighbours all have kids being loud. I’d never complain about that as it’s just kids having fun but jeez it’s a lot.,instead I’m drinking rose in a pub garden.

Mumofyellows · 11/05/2024 13:01

Yep! Jobs all done this morning so an afternoon in the garden with the dogs (they have their paddling pool filled!) and everything I want on hand! We love really near to a lovely beach but it gets busy, if we go there we tend to go super early, take breakfast and coffee, have a swim and play with the dogs then head home before the crowds descend to where it's less peopley.

whatisforteamum · 11/05/2024 13:03

Bit of both.
Just had a week between leaving a job and starting new one.
My pottering has been
Baking bread
Random weeding tidying flower beds that took a while🤣
Washing
Mumsnet chats
Chilling with my beautiful cats
Little naps in the sun
Pottering is getting bits done if and when I fancy.
Lovely day to potter

mynewusername2023 · 11/05/2024 13:04

We bought lots of picky food yesterday so we had a stocked fridge for the weekend. However there were too many bugs so we've come inside to eat lunch but heading back outside in a bit.

whatisforteamum · 11/05/2024 13:04

Buffyslayer.Exactly right.

Comedycook · 11/05/2024 13:06

I'm currently sitting in my garden. I prefer it as I can pop in and do the odd chore...unload dishwasher, do a load of laundry whereas when you're out all day nothing gets done

I spend half my time hobbling away from wasps when I'm outside. I'm not a nature person but I love a bit of sun 😂

ApolloandDaphne · 11/05/2024 13:12

We spent a lot of money on our garden last year and it's now the perfect place to potter and relax. I love it so much. It's like having my own mini park. It even comes with its own gardener (DH) and a lovely dog.

PrimalLass · 11/05/2024 13:13

We live somewhere that everyone else comes to on a sunny day - so definitely prefer staying at home!

Eviebeans · 11/05/2024 13:16

I will not be strimming anything today
planning an extension to our chicken run and wood just been delivered
bbqing later maybe
I couldn’t bear the idea of being in a queue of traffic to get somewhere or wait for a place at a table to have a meal

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 11/05/2024 13:19

Me, me, me!!
Can't think of anything worse than sitting in traffic - much prefer to enjoy my lovely garden!

FluffyDiplodocus · 11/05/2024 13:22

No pottering for me, I’m full on lounging in the garden not even trying to be remotely productive!

tootyfruitypickle · 11/05/2024 13:23

I like garden pottering

until my arsehole neighbour lights his wood burning hot tub literally a metre from my fence (tiny garden too).
