Draping sheets etc over child’s pushchair

A bit of warm weather and seen my pet hate - parents who drape a towel, sheet, muslim cloth over their child’s pushchair.

Don’t they realise that this makes the area under the covering warmer? Plus babies can’t regulate temperature well.

They are better off with a clip on parasol. Then the air circulates.

Why do parents still do this habit of draping material over the pushchair?

Back in the dark ages i.e 60s-70s when we had the big prams,we always had lovely canopies to fit over the pram.

Yes like this. My mum had one for me.

I had a canopy for my Silver Cross pram in the mid 1990s

I remember with my now almost 16 year old I used to drape one of those loose-weave pram blankets over the hood of her Maclaren buggy (do they still even make those).

Then somewhere before my 14 year old being born I got scared by mumsnet posts like this one into buying some bizarre strap on sun shade that was equivalent to being inside a burqa and somehow that made me a better mother.

Funny thing is, neither of my babys cooked to death and not only did they live to tell the tale they're both taller than me now.

I'm sorry, OP, to disappoint you with my anecdata. If I ever have another child I'll try harder to cook them to death, I promise.

It’s handy when you need the baby to sleep. We live in the U.K. so regulating body temperature isn’t difficult.

Agreed. I used a muslin up until this week.
Now switching to snooze shade... because of the heat not this post...

See this all the time in Spain

Meh. Prams are basically plastic buckets, on a hot day they're not a good place for a baby anyway.

I fucking love Mumsnet for comments like this.

I agree. Prams are disgusting things. You'd be as well pushing them about in a wheelie bin.
