Scones. Jam then cream or cream then jam? I have solved it.

In the interests of science, I put it to the test.

Jam first then cream or cream first then jam.

After extensive testing, I am happy to confirm that it makes no fucking difference whatsoever.

However, in the interests of science I will repeat the tests later on.

Oh, and just because I like to kick shit off on here...

It's scone to rhyme with throne, bone and zone.

No debate.

Butter plus cream plus jam?

This is terrible; but I can imagine it might be a desperate strategy of trying to save (I'm sorry to have to say this) a stale scone

A scone must be fresh - they just don't keep IME

It’s scone to rhyme with zone when it’s waiting to be eaten, for sure, but when you’ve eaten it, it’s scone (to rhyme with gone!)

I am from the land that invented Cream Teas (despite what our neighbouring county may claim).

It is cream, then jam.

Any other way is madness 😆

Bet you put carrot in pasties too 😳

Cream is not the lightest if it is clotted cream. So: if clotted cream, put loads of cream on first, then blob the jam on top using a teaspoon. If whipped cream, obviously that's disappointing but you'll just have to put it on top of the jam or it'll get squashed.

Rhymes with gone.

This!!!!

DH and DS are team jam first, pair of weirdos.

Cream first because it’s like butter!!
Scone rhymes with gone, anything else sounds weird and made up.

DS12 puts jam on one half, cream on the other and then just puts them back together and eats it like a sandwich….

You need to sell him on eBay. Although not sure anyone will want him......

Cheese scones, butter. None of this jammy, creaminess.

A place near me serves their cheese scones warm with a shot glass of grated cheese so that you can add your own extra cheesiness.

I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Absolutely not!!! 🤣 (unless it's a veggie pasty).

Actually the pasty is also technically a Devonian invention, with the oldest recipe being found in Plymouth!

Yet another thing those Cornish pirates stole from us!

Allywill · 08/05/2024 11:49

Paul Hollywood says scone to rhyme with gone as did the late Queen. Think they out rank you tbh.

Higglings · 08/05/2024 11:51

Scone rhymes with gone

Jam first always, that way you can get more cream on top.

grinandslothit · 08/05/2024 12:03

Jam first
Now I want a scone

I’m not going to comment on the order other than a lot of people on this thread are wrong.

But people who are reassembling scones can’t have put enough cream on, right?

I read that as "people who are resembling scones". Which I probably would if I ate too many of them.

blablasmthsmth · 07/05/2024 23:25

Yeah but I also wouldn't dollop the butter on with a big spoon 😆

You reminded me of my aunt from the US though, she loved having scones with jam and cream when she visited but she would actually scrape the clotted cream on as if it were a reeeeally thin layer of butter followed by a thin scrape of jam!

Rest assured there's no scraping when I put cream on a scone 😂😋
