Scones. Jam then cream or cream then jam? I have solved it.

In the interests of science, I put it to the test.

Jam first then cream or cream first then jam.

After extensive testing, I am happy to confirm that it makes no fucking difference whatsoever.

However, in the interests of science I will repeat the tests later on.

Oh, and just because I like to kick shit off on here...

It's scone to rhyme with throne, bone and zone.

No debate.

Cream first is for savages. Cream only goes on your bottom if you have a problem.

Scone rhymes with phone, tone, bone, loan.

oldwhyno · 07/05/2024 15:00

If you pronounce scone that way OP, no wonder you don't know which way to eat it.

It's jam first. When does cream ever not go on top?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/05/2024 15:29

I adore scones
Jam first then cream
Rhymes with gone in my world
Jam and Philadelphia is nice too( in that order)

Cream is not the lightest if it is clotted cream. So: if clotted cream, put loads of cream on first, then blob the jam on top using a teaspoon. If whipped cream, obviously that's disappointing but you'll just have to put it on top of the jam or it'll get squashed.

Rhymes with gone.

What kind of heathen would think whipped cream is in any way acceptable here? Outrageous!

Allshallbewell2021 · 07/05/2024 15:37

Cream first

UnctuousUnicorns · 07/05/2024 15:37

Sirzy · 07/05/2024 13:43

Purely on the pronunciation your wrong

☝️This.

RobinBobbin · 07/05/2024 15:40

Eat the jammy ones how you like.

But you are missing out because the best scone is a cheese scone. Spread with butter, topped with cheese and a dollop of chutney.
Or just warm and fresh from the oven.

Butter first, then cream then jam. Anything else is madness.

What devilry is this??

takealettermsjones · 07/05/2024 15:42

Wow OP you're saying throne, bone and zone really wrong

Bignanna · 07/05/2024 15:42

Purely on the grammar, you’re wrong!

HavfrueDenizKisi · 07/05/2024 15:43

Jam first because then you can pile on the most enormous amount of clotted cream. The cream needs to be gravity defying.

SurelySmartie · 07/05/2024 15:44

It totally depends on what type of cream! You cannot spread clotted cream on jam.

"I asked the maid in dulcet tone, to order me a buttered scone
The silly girl has been and gone, and ordered me a buttered scone"

Cream, then jam, then more cream!!

No, all wrong.

Jam, cream, then more jam!!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 07/05/2024 15:46

Butter (optional), then jam, then cream. And YABVU on the pronunciation. Rhyming it with 'throne' is very Hyacinth Bucket.

"Spread"? You mean ladle?

DisforDarkChocolate · 07/05/2024 15:49

I do one side of each, just to be fair.

RumJerrySailorRum · 07/05/2024 15:49

Don't care how it's pronounced.....I use both!

But, its butter, jam (preferably seedless, so more like a jelly) clotted cream then fresh strawberries.

I'm Yorkshire!

This is the correct answer. Ten points.

The end.

whatisontk · 07/05/2024 13:43

Jam first because then you can load the cream on top. Jam slides off of you out loads of cream on first

This. Cream first makes no sense ( sorry Devon or Cornwall) I've always put clotted cream on jam. It helps it stick

MyNameIsBatty · 07/05/2024 16:02

Anyone else find that the amount of cream you usually get is so disappointing? I gave up on cafe/tea room cream teas as there is never enough cream for both halves, or maybe I'm just greedy!

spicysamosahotcupoftea · 07/05/2024 16:05

That's settled. I'm getting scones with jam and cream (jam first!) tomorrow for breakfast 😁

CharlieDickens · 07/05/2024 16:07

I just don't understand scones anyway. Too heavy for a snack and not substantial enough for a meal. They just don't fit into a neat category for anything. Just what are they?

TallulahBetty · 07/05/2024 16:07

Cream then jam. The cream is instead of butter - you wouldn't put butter on top of jam would you you animal

Beezknees · 07/05/2024 16:08

Cream first. Cream is thicker than jam so when you spread it over jam it just looks messy.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 07/05/2024 16:09

I'm still traumatised by the last thread on this, but I would like to offer, for consideration of the house, the following:

Honey first, then cream. (Proper clotted cream, and as much as physics allows, plus a smidge more)

I know, I know, but I had it a while ago againt some serious reservations as a proper Cornish woman and Oh. My. God. It was amazing.

Splits can fuck off though. Most disappointing thing in creation.
