Scones. Jam then cream or cream then jam? I have solved it.

In the interests of science, I put it to the test.

Jam first then cream or cream first then jam.

After extensive testing, I am happy to confirm that it makes no fucking difference whatsoever.

However, in the interests of science I will repeat the tests later on.

Oh, and just because I like to kick shit off on here...

It's scone to rhyme with throne, bone and zone.

No debate.

Cheese scones, butter. None of this jammy, creaminess.

DrJonesIpresume · 07/05/2024 13:58

I solved this years ago and it is entirely dependent on the relative stiffness of the two ingredients on the day. Stiffest one goes on first, sloppier one second.

DH and I call it the Stiffiosity Index.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/05/2024 13:58

I just do one half jam then cream. Then the other way for the other half. Although Scones are better with just butter.

Fromage · 07/05/2024 13:59

Scone rhymes with gone, otherwise the joke doesn't work.

Jam spread like thick butter, big blob of cream.

IncompleteSenten · 07/05/2024 14:00

No butter.
Always clotted cream. My younger son likes spray cream (the one for hot chocolate) on his so obviously he's now available for adoption if anyone would like a 23 year old heathen for a son.

And I'm not dignifying the deluded scone gone rs with a reply.

Butter then jam then cream. The cream doesn't replace the butter. That's madness.

Scone rhymes with gone.

Notreat · 07/05/2024 14:01

I don't care which order the jam or cream goes on both are delicious.
But scone rhymes with gone. Anything else is just wrong!

Reversypercypig · 07/05/2024 14:06

I do one of each option then eat the rest of the clotted cream straight out of the pot with a spoon.

Mairzydotes · 07/05/2024 14:06

Rhymes with gone.

Team jam first, although I eat the toppings , then reapply.

Ilovemyshed · 07/05/2024 14:08

Scone, as in gone.

Butter
Jam
Cream.

You know it's right!

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 07/05/2024 14:09

Jam n' cream if you're Cornish, cream n' jam if you are a savage...
Edited for a missed comma.

Hedgesgalore · 07/05/2024 14:10

Clotted cream first then jam.

Jam first if using extra thick double cream (sometimes this is all thats in the shop).

Scone/gone

In a push, just butter, lashings of it.

TheCompactPussycat · 07/05/2024 14:11

Deadringer · 07/05/2024 13:47

Cream is the lightest, so it goes on top. Butter, then jam, then cream.

What godawful cream are you using that is lighter than jam? If you aren't using the thickest heaviest clotted cream, you are doing it wrong.

Lemonyfuckit · 07/05/2024 14:11

whatisontk · 07/05/2024 13:43

Jam first because then you can load the cream on top. Jam slides off of you out loads of cream on first

Exactly this.

And it's definitely scone to rhyme with gone.

wompwomp · 07/05/2024 14:12

As a FOREIGNER I come into this with no bias. I've decided it all comes down to the cream. If it's clotted cream it goes on first as it is thick and sticky and clings to the scone. Jam spreads on it well. . If it is whipped cream it goes on last as it is too soft to spread jam onto and you can dollop a big blob on

Favouritefruits · 07/05/2024 14:13

It’s definitely scone to rhyme with gone, according to the late queen!
cream then jam!

Mothership4two · 07/05/2024 14:14

West Country girl here. Jam first so you can get more cream on the scone. MIL (from Kent) was the first person I ever saw putting on butter and the first person I ever saw putting the jam on the top and I grew up in Devon - this 'Devon way' is a load of rubbish IME (and I have had a lot of cream teas in my time!). Must be clotted cream. And it's scone/gone - scone/bone sounds like a clueless Hyacinth Bucket!

mondaytosunday · 07/05/2024 14:15

Jam first as otherwise if the scone is lovely and warm the cream just sort of melts.

BuddingPeonies · 07/05/2024 14:16

Scone / gone

Get rid of the disgusting cream.
Butter and jam. Scones straight from the oven.

Bonjovispjs · 07/05/2024 14:16

I really want a scone (rhymes with gone) now 😜

Bananabutty · 07/05/2024 14:17

Well I like to swirl the 2 together because I'm a heathen

Papyrophile · 07/05/2024 14:18

Jam first. And I prefer tuffs/splits to scones... but then I am proper Cornish.

BacktoBeginnersFran · 07/05/2024 14:19

Sirzy · 07/05/2024 13:43

Purely on the pronunciation your wrong

Purely based on pronunciation... OP is right ✅️ 😁

Caerulea · 07/05/2024 14:20

Layering irrelevant if you're able to correctly pronounce it, which you can. So very not at all even close to unreasonable!

(though I prefer the feeling of cream against my teeth than jam)

whoneedssixteen · 07/05/2024 14:43

"I asked the maid in dulcet tone, to order me a buttered scone
The silly girl has been and gone, and ordered me a buttered scone"

Cream, then jam, then more cream!!
