To ask what you expect from Labour when/if they win the election?

Just curious. I’ll be voting for them reluctantly but I’m not really sure what can or will be done about the state of the country. It seems we’re skint so they’ll just have to tinker around the edges.

Why on earth would you expect an entire political party, run on a national scale, to 'really represent [you]'? What does that even mean?

Labour have been pretty honest about the economic situation, as seen when they rowed back on their proposed Green spending, to give just one example. They say it a lot, to the ire of those on the left of the party.

Puzzled about what the Tories have ever achieved for the benefit of women as well.

What about cutting legal aid for domestic abuse victims? They were really looking out for us then

Oh and chronically underfunding Children's Mental Health Services. Mothers everywhere love them for that.

They really are looking out for us!

Starmer was a Human Rights lawyer, I mean do you genuinely get attracted to such positions when you are morally untrustworthy?
Im utterly flabbergasted by this thread, it is a real eye opener to the Tory mindset.

I don’t have a Tory mindset, but to me it’s better than wet labour.

And as PP’s have said, labour have totally f*ed up Wales.

Goldenbear · 03/05/2024 20:35

twistyizzy · 03/05/2024 20:33

Because I disagree with you? 😆 Such a grown up retort. I am most certainly not alone in my opinion, as evidenced throughout this thread.

Party politics isn’t perfection though, voting isn’t bespoke, you go for what most aligns with your principles, politics, ideas. I personally as a woman could never not vote due to the fighting to win the vote that had to take place but I have had that drummed into me from a young age!

Brexit fucked up Wales and whose idea was that?

Going by todays results I’m not sure labour will
miss your vote.

So this poster should stop talking on MN? On a matter which is entirely pertinent to the thread?

Churchview · 03/05/2024 20:37

I'm expecting them to do something along the lines of what they did last time........more nurses, more doctors, more teachers, more police, shorter NHS waiting lists, the poorest in society especially children and elderly people raised out of poverty, human rights protections, equality, clean air and rivers, improvements to animal welfare and banning of cruel sports, better health provision for women and the elderly, more money for education.

That's what they did last time.
The Tories have spent 14 years unpicking all that.

Well fucked up in the sense that you mean it. Then again I don’t live there so I don’t know.

No I don't think it is but it is certainly in crisis and is a postcode lottery. Great if you are near good schools but many of us aren't. Schools in the south get more funding per pupil than schools in the North. We are NE England with some of the poorest performing schools. Labour have said nothing about addressing that.
If you are lucky enough, like Starmer, to be able to afford a 2 million house to ensure catchment of amazing school them great, but most of us aren't in that position so we do whatever we can to get our DC a decent education.

If you don't think it is, then...maybe don't say it?

FunkyMonks · 03/05/2024 20:39

Labour are bloody awful we have suffered with them in power in wales honestly shocking but sadly the Welsh will always vote for labour.
Tories are just as bad it's shocking but I truly feel the UK is getting worse not better and sadly will keep declining with both parties blaming the other for its demise.

Too much has happened now the NHS is beyond broken and no amount of money is going to fix that I am awaiting the day we are all told it no longer exists and we need to pay for private care similar to that in America.

Immigration has taken its toll crime has increased gangs on streets kids stabbing one another it honestly feels like we are heading to become a third world country and it's depressing.

Each party talks the talk but never walks it they are all clever at targeting what we all fear the most but ultimately neither delivers so we are always left feeling resentful for who ever gets in.

Me too so I will vote but it certainly won't be for Labour (or Tories).

Sorry what is this? Is it genuine?

Nice bit of gaslighting there! Knocking other women down is always a good trait

Yes it is. Look at where their funding comes from ie private healthcare companies and hedgefunds. You trust a party funded this way to 'save' the NHS?

Surely you comprehend this is not the case for every state school in the country. If it was the case I’m not sure how my DS’s 6th form has managed to secure 160 Oxford and Cambridge offers in the last 3 years!

Anyone wanting Labour to save the NHS is deluded.

This week a Tory MP who is also a GP resigned as he could no longer look his fellow doctors in the eye after 14 years of Tory rule. He crossed the floor and joined Labour.

Last time Labour were in power -
85,000 more nurses
32,000 more doctors
Set up NHS Direct
Inpatient waiting lists down by over half a million
Free breast cancer screening for all women aged between 50-70
Heart disease deaths down by 150,000 and cancer deaths down by 50,000

Are you thinking PFI again for this or from somewhere else? Where?

pinotnow · 03/05/2024 21:05

I'm really enjoying the fact that many of the anti-Labour posts list all the bad things about the country as it is now (now - after 14 years of Tory rule...) only to go on to give that as a reason for not voting Labour: the NHS is fucked, immigration is out of control, blah blah, so obviously I won't vote for the party that has been calling this stuff out for years, oh no, that won't work.

People are bloody odd.

Yes last time Labour was in power when the economy was in a completely different place to what it is now. Labour have committed to the Tory spending plans. How does that tie in with improving public services?

The recipient of the largest sum from any company involved in private healthcare?

Tory MP John Redwood has received £700,000 from an investment company representing healthcare clients.
