Just curious. I’ll be voting for them reluctantly but I’m not really sure what can or will be done about the state of the country. It seems we’re skint so they’ll just have to tinker around the edges.

I am not aligned to any particular party, and really dislike them all as none really represent me.

This thread does nothing to inspire me to vote labour. I agree with @HermioneWeasley about the likely ramifications of this.

I also agree that I would have more respect for a party which gave complete honesty about the current economic situation.

I am between spoiling my paper or holding my nose and voting Tory, which I didn’t last time, purely on the women’s rights issue.

A government that cares about the general public as opposed to their rich friends and donors. A government which will stop focusing on contracts for mates and privatising the NHS. A
government that isn’t pig ignorant re mental health or turning a blind eye to the death of NHS dentistry. A government that wants an education that works for all children and causes less anxiety. A government that cares about young people and the environment….

Thats for starters.

A simple change in approach could make a massive difference.
With so many local councils being run by the same party as the government, one might imagine that central government will be supportive of local government rather than trying to undermine it constantly.
Similarly just in the way teachers, nurses, doctors and many other public sector workers are spoken about by our leaders could make a huge difference. A willingness to sit down with workers representatives and discuss the challenges they face would be a huge change.

None of this costs anything, which is a good job, because the money has all been spent on Tory donors, but it will make a difference.

I know people who voted Tory for every election since 2010 but not now for the very same money grabbing reasons.

They've taken the piss way too much. There's only so much people can stand.

I would go for spoiling as the Tories are no friends of women.

Exactly! MN is just not a reflection of reality.

Mn is usually Labour orientated tbf with some posts below showing the usual pro Labour spirit, it’s just the reality of Labour on this thread coming through

I expect it’ll pick up and move from they’re the best to more of this if they win

If you think about it Labour have been out so long they haven’t been in power with social media in action. People tend to be pretty blunt about politicians

Bibnle636 · 03/05/2024 20:21

twistyizzy · 03/05/2024 20:18

Because how can you trust a party to fix the NHS when it's biggest donors are private healthcare companies?

Well put it this way there are very few in the UK that trust the Conservatives to put right the damage they have inflicted on the nhs past 14 years.

Do you really want to talk about Tory donors?😂

I've found the opposite in my years on MN.

It's funny how that works. Like with the BBC half the people say their biased left and the other right!

That would be a really bad idea @Watermelon197. It looks like Penny TWAW Mordaunt will be stepping into Sunak's shoes soon.

ScruffGin · 03/05/2024 20:23

For it to be just as shit, but in a different way... 😂

Really? Some threads are so pro Labour it’s easier just to swerve altogether

This one is quite good though 😬

No because I don't vote Tory. However as a lifelong Labour voter I can't vote for this lot. They pretend to be different to the Tories when they are funded in practically the same way (outside of unions) and commit to the same spending plans. They are a bunch of hypocrites.
I am politically homeless for the first election ever.

PooledEstimate · 03/05/2024 20:24

Against the grain of a lifetime of Labour voting, I am voting Tory this time. Labour has no serious plans to curb immigration. To say it does not affect service availability/house prices is disingenuous.

Still better than having a big donor who was a minister in a dictator's government and then knighting said donor...

Why on earth would you expect an entire political party, run on a national scale, to 'really represent [you]'? What does that even mean?

Labour have been pretty honest about the economic situation, as seen when they rowed back on their proposed Green spending, to give just one example. They say it a lot, to the ire of those on the left of the party.

Puzzled about what the Tories have ever achieved for the benefit of women as well.

It may have escaped your attention that the country has just demonstrated that it is Labour orientated. Currently with the Lib Dems in 2nd place in terms of number of council seat won, with 8 councils yet to declare.

That's an interesting choice.

In my opinion, the Tories chronic lack of funding for housing and all other essential services continuing would be far worse in the long run.

I'm not voting for best of a bad bunch. I want a party with real vision and energy and commitments which I can buy into. There are none.

EasternStandard · 03/05/2024 20:29

I thought we had mayoral votes too

It wasn’t all Labour going by pp but it’s the London result I’m interested in

Khan may get it but it seems he slipped in polls in recent days

The immigration that effects house prices, is particularly Tier 1 visas that the Tories have been keen to encourage. It has nothing to do with people in small boats. This has also contributed significantly to the million or more empty homes in the UK.

It’s trafficking they’ll find hard especially if pp is right re ‘enforcement’

Because I disagree with you? 😆 Such a grown up retort. I am most certainly not alone in my opinion, as evidenced throughout this thread.

VeraForever · 03/05/2024 20:34

Clamp down on job avoiders. There are too many. And NO! I don't mean disabled people.

End Buy-to-let mortgages... the scourge of so many rural/seaside communities.

Build affordable homes. Stop these endless "3/4/5 bed luxury developments." These are usually placed in lovely rural places with no infrastructure.
Put new homes near infrastructure or , if you can't, then build infrastructure.

I'm minded of a new build of over 3000 houses where residents were promised a new school , doctors, dentists, small shopping area and playground.
They got a small Aldi , a hairdresser , a coffee shop and a school that, once built was over capacity before its doors opened.

Deal with villains. Like, REALLY deal with them.

A frightening reduction in women’s rights

Higher taxes

Yep. Sad
