To ask what you expect from Labour when/if they win the election?

Just curious. I’ll be voting for them reluctantly but I’m not really sure what can or will be done about the state of the country. It seems we’re skint so they’ll just have to tinker around the edges.

You can’t get annoyed people are answering with their opinion on what Labour will be like

It’s the thread topic

Why do you think I'm annoyed at the thread?

The only thing I'm annoyed about is how shit this government have been and the damage they have caused to so many people.

Livelovebehappy · 03/05/2024 19:46

I expect very little, then I won’t be disappointed.

But some of us think it will improve so that’s ok isn’t it or do we have to stick to self-fulfilling cynicism- the enemy of democracy!

And I won’t be voting for them. I dont have any confidence in them or Tories, so this election will be the first one since I was 18yrs old that I won’t be casting a vote in. I’ll leave in the hands of the Gods….

I expect Starmer to roll back the one good thing the Tories have done, which was trying to put a brake on gender identity ideology.

Starmer let slip he has a trans child in an interview a months ago, which is why he's been so silent on making any noises about the outcome of the Cass Review. He's flip-flopping all over the place in whether or not men can have cervixes or women penises but once he's in I'm worried he'll go full Nicola Sturgeon (and male rapists are women etc).

I kinda agree with this but at the same time, surely if he did this he knows it would be political suicide as I do think the vast majority of the electorate know that you can't change immutable sex/biology etc so question is would he really be that stupid? If labour finally get in? I'm on the fence to be honest whether he would or wouldn't based on this

HermioneWeasley · 03/05/2024 13:52

I expect women’s rights and child safeguarding to be abandoned on the altar of gender ideology

i expect our foreign policy to be dictated by anti semites and British Jews to feel wholly unsafe

i expect education to be a mess when people who can’t afford to pay VAT on private school fees scramble for places

i don’t expect any appreciable improvement in public services because there isn’t any money and Labour will support workers striking (which is sometimes legitimate and in other cases not) - trains will continue to be an unreliable and expensive shit show.

Angela Raynor’s workers rights bill is so bonkers even some unions think it’s mad, so we can look forward to companies being hesitant to hire people and rising employment costs keeping the prices of everything high.

don’t get me wrong, I think the tories are a shit show as well. I just think things won’t be any better under Labour.

This - exactly.

Something about ‘but Labour’ in earlier post

Of course it’ll be about Labour, that’s the question asked

People should look for the truth, stop falling for the cynicism it will be the death of democracy!

I trust Starmer a hell of a lot more than I trust Mordaunt on this.

Are you a woman?

a woman chucked herself in front of a horse for you to vote, went on hunger strike in prison, how can you not vote ?

Sort the utter shit show of an Education system this country inflicts on our children!!

With regards to the VAT on private education / they better be prepared for some of the kids with SEN from the private sector returning to the State system as families cannot stretch the extra few grand a year in school fees.

Plenty of stories of families sacrificing EVERYTHING to get their child an education and support they deserve by going to the private sector.

Private Ed is not just for rich families.

I think they will continue to grind this country down just like the Tories because none of them are accountable for their actions

ScoobyDoesnt · 03/05/2024 19:58

Starmer is like a wet weekend and Rayner is completely untrustable. She pulls his strings like a puppet.

I’m voting Tory just because the thought of Labour is horrendous. Although have to say was hugely impressed by Daisy Cooper, deputy leader of the Lib Dems, on BBC Breakfast this morning.

twistyizzy · 03/05/2024 20:00

Anyone wanting Labour to save the NHS is deluded.

95,000 SEN kids at private schools.

I think you misunderstood me.

The 'but Labour' was re whenever people point out specific things the Tories have done that are harmful, the response is always 'but Labour...' insert speculation about something they might do one day. Never anything positive about this current bunch of Tories.

I'll vote Labour because they are the Not Tory option where I live, but also because I think they will genuinely try to make things better rather than being self-serving.

Whether they can undo the shit show of the last 14 years is anyone's guess. At least they'll try though.

Once when we were in a completely different economical situation and didn't have an ex Bank of England boss as Shadow Chancellor

BIossomtoes · 03/05/2024 20:01

Yep. At least they want to try too. The Tories haven't even bothered.

Look at Children's Mental Health Services. It's abysmal due to chronic Tory underfunding.

Starmer was a Human Rights lawyer, I mean do you genuinely get attracted to such positions when you are morally untrustworthy?
Im utterly flabbergasted by this thread, it is a real eye opener to the Tory mindset.

Moonmelodies · 03/05/2024 20:05

Sir Keir said that the Welsh government was a blueprint for a Labour Britain - so look to Wales to see what's in store for the rest of the UK.
