To be completely shocked about someone I used to know

When my youngest was at primary school I really liked this woman who had kids either side of mine.

She was in the PTA equivalent and was just a nice woman. There was no drama around her.

I remember having a day off and went into the local cafe, and she invited me to sit with her friends. She was funny, warm and witty.

Significantly, she had friends of all ethnicities and her best friend was Asian.

Everybody will relate to being busy but I think if it was a different time in my life or we had kids in same year we would have been mates.

I am absolutely shocked that she is a member of a right wing political party and has a presence in that party, utterly and completely shocked.

I know it’s not illegal but God.

All three of my siblings are Tories, I’m not someone who thinks everyone has to think like me but I am stunned.

I have friends who share the bizarre view that some women can have a penis. I think this is dangerous nonsense but thankfully I’m able to look beyond my friends’ extreme beliefs and appreciate their good qualities.

Higher standards for women who are prepared to share with males.

Lower standards for vulnerable women, girls in school, women who want single sex sports and spaces for dignity and privacy.

Integrity mostly for the male born and the privileged women who dgaf about these issues.

Those with left leaning political ideologies have killed around 100 million people in the past 100 years.

Well for a start:

Mao killed between 65 and 100m
Stalin killed about 20m
Pol Pot killed about 3m
Castro killed between 10'000 and 25'000

Much as the Nazi party is portrayed as right wing, it started out with quite strong socialist and anti capitalist principals. There were even communist members known as Beefsteaknazis (red on the inside brown on the outside) who were accepted in the party.

The current party in power have comprehensively failed over a number of years, so it’s madness to vote for more of the same and expect things to get better! All this talk won’t get us out of the poor situation the UK is in.

Unfortunately all the mainstream parties are feeding from the same trough and have manifestos which are largely identical.

We have no idea what the content of any of the manifestos is yet since none of them have been published.

Incidentally, when I asked for evidence I was hoping for a link or something - not a list of communist dictators.

The main parties have swallowed the neoliberalism kool aid, and their manifestos are more similar than we’d like, but they aren’t all the same. And the MPs would be a different set of people. Giving them a chance is probably the best option out of a fairly unpalatable set of options.

I’m talking about manifestos from elections already held btw. Manifestos for the upcoming general election have not been finalised although there has been talk of what will and won’t be included.

So I believe that the stats re 100m deaths refer to an influential, and controversial, book called the Black Book of Communism, published by Harvard Uni Press in 1999, that sets out that 94m people were killed by communist regimes in the 20hth century. Not had a chance/or time to dig deeper to evaluate that claim so can’t comment. There’s a wikipedia page with a detailed break down/synopsis of the main points of the book, though.

The problem is your attitude towards those on the right. You’ll find most of us on the right are everything you described your former friend to be in you opening post. Those on the left are normally racist bigots who hide behind a mask of lies
