To believe that my cat is trying to tell me something bad?

My cat has been acting up tonight, she's usually a very quiet kitty and will please herself and most of the time we don't k ow she's here! Tonight she had been meowing non stop, crying and yelling, obviously I've tended to her needs and I can't think of a reason she would be acting like this, shes also being very clingy and won't leave my side either..I've fallen down a Google rabbit hole and I already have make anxiety and OCD amongst other mental health issues. Google has just come up with the delight of cats can sense impending death, heart attacks and cancers and when they sense someone is going to die they will be unsettled and clingy. So now my intrusive brain is worrying that I'm going to die, scared to go to sleep because what is my cat trying to tell me? Deep down I know I'm being totally insane. But is there any truth to googles aims and how likely is it? Currently about to have a breakdown and commit myself to the nearest loony bin. Clearly it's where i belong.

Is she spayed? It sounds like shes in heat.

TwelveAngryWhiskers · 02/05/2024 23:00

Have you not considered she might be in pain?

No she hadn't been yet, she's around 9 months old

Yes and I've checked her over and I can't work out why she would be in pain, it's not constant anymore, she will calm down for a few minutes and then she will be meowing and unsettled again, I've been down to the toilet a couple times and she's following me everywhere and meowing.

I was going to say it is more likely that she is feeling unwell than that there is anything wrong with you, but obviously she should be spayed

Yes totally, we haven't gotten around to getting her done yet but we fully intend to.

It sounds like she’s in heat? Kittens can come on from 4/5 months old, she needs spayed.

Fifiellz · 02/05/2024 23:04

Could you be pregnant? My cat was a nightmare from the very early days of pregnancy, she wouldn't leave me alone.

Well there's your answer right there. Get her spayed! And FGS don't let her out until she has been 'done'!

I'm definitely not lol it's more.strange because she doesn't like me as much as her dad and is usually all over him..

No she doesn't go outside, and never had been, she's a house cat, even if a door has been left open by accident she won't venture outside.

Good Lord, you have an un-spayed cat because you haven't got around to getting it done yet, and you leap to your cat trying to tell you about an impending heart attack or cancer?

Get her spayed if her restlessness causes that sort of worry for you (and for her own health).

She's 9 months old, very probably in heat.

She'll be dashing out open doors and windows pretty soon.

It's nothing to do with you, she just wants to go out and get knocked up.

So calm down and book the vet in the morning.

Fagled · 02/05/2024 23:11

Every time a female cat goes through heat their chance of developing certain types of cancer increase.

If this is indeed her first, you’ve missed the chance to have her spayed early and potentially entirely eliminate her chances of developing various cancers.

Its imperative cat owners get female cats spayed early.

LadyGreySpillsTheTea · 02/05/2024 23:13

It’s overwhelmingly probable that she’s on heat and feeling really uncomfortable from it, poor girl. Could you make an appointment to get her spayed as soon as possible? Otherwise she will most certainly get out at some stage and either come back up the duff or get lost while looking for male company. And younger female cats also recover from spays quicker than older adults.

Yes I understand that, it's not an excuse but she was a rescue kitten and very unwell when we got her. She came from a really bad house where they weren't looked after, she had her de flead and de wormed and some vaccines I Believe before we got her and we was told to book her in before 1 years old so we took that as anytime before she's 1 hence we didn't realise it was a hurry to take her but I'll call the vet tomorrow.

You've had your answer, now get her to the vet asap and find out how soon they can neuter her !
She could have and probably should have been done ages ago.

Bigcat25 · 02/05/2024 23:22

The vet should also look at her mouth incase she has a painful dental issue. Unlikely at her age, but possible. My cat had has a sore mouth we didn't pick up till his yearly check up. Felt bad, he had already had teeth removed a yr earlier so wasn't expecting it again so soon.

TimeInBlue · 02/05/2024 23:27

Who told you that? She could have had a couple of litters in that time 😬

Eyesopenwideawake · 02/05/2024 23:29

It’s not always about you 🙄

LtJudyHopps · 02/05/2024 23:32

I don’t know where you are but where I am we have thunder and lightening. It could be something as simple as that unsettling her.

She will now!! She will be desperate to get out so watch very carefully if you open any window/doors because she will become like liquid and escape the smallest gap.

BirthdayRainbow · 02/05/2024 23:35

And watch out for male cats getting in...
