To believe that my cat is trying to tell me something bad?

My cat has been acting up tonight, she's usually a very quiet kitty and will please herself and most of the time we don't k ow she's here! Tonight she had been meowing non stop, crying and yelling, obviously I've tended to her needs and I can't think of a reason she would be acting like this, shes also being very clingy and won't leave my side either..I've fallen down a Google rabbit hole and I already have make anxiety and OCD amongst other mental health issues. Google has just come up with the delight of cats can sense impending death, heart attacks and cancers and when they sense someone is going to die they will be unsettled and clingy. So now my intrusive brain is worrying that I'm going to die, scared to go to sleep because what is my cat trying to tell me? Deep down I know I'm being totally insane. But is there any truth to googles aims and how likely is it? Currently about to have a breakdown and commit myself to the nearest loony bin. Clearly it's where i belong.

A ghost maybe?!
Marginally better than your own demise.

Seriously though - this is the type of rabbit hole I would fall down and you have my sympathy because it is hard to control so my advice would be to remember most things feel 100% worse at this time of night. Try to distract your mind.

I’m not a cat owner so I can’t give you a sensible answer but I hope you are both ok and definitely get her checked over tomorrow if she still isn’t herself xx

passtheajax · 03/05/2024 00:52

Mine were neutered at four months old. Get her done.

And try to look at things from her point of view and how she's expressing her needs as opposed to interpreting her behaviour as an indicator of your health or whatever. Animals can't talk and rely on their owners to detect any health problems they may be experiencing.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/05/2024 00:53

She's in heat. She needs spaying asap

Toddlerteaplease · 03/05/2024 00:56

My cat was also a rescue and unwell when. I got her. She was spayed within 2 weeks of adoption. Your excuse is rubbish. She's nine months old. She will escape.

EmilyTjP · 03/05/2024 01:52

Another one to say she needs to be spayed. She’s in heat. Do it asap, it’s in her best interests.

YankSplaining · 03/05/2024 03:04

In heat, or else reacting to the smell of some unusual animal outside the house. But probably in heat.

SnackAttacks · 03/05/2024 03:29

It's not likely to be you.

I know someone who volunteers for a cat charity and they said they'd often try to give advice to people who's cats went missing and they'd never know why. The reason was usually that they were in heat and they'd always find a way of getting out, despite being "indoor cats". Around this time is absolutely when they will act up and potentially slip out when you go out or they'll go out of a window.

I had a male cat who slipped out and went missing just before he was due to be neutered so I know it happens.

The other option would be illness.

bradpittsbathwater · 03/05/2024 03:36

Keeping a cat indoors is cruel. Get her spayed for gods sake and let her outside.

mapleriver · 03/05/2024 05:32

Unlikely it will happen but please make sure to get your cat spayed, I've been looking after my deceased's mother's unspayed cat and put off getting her spayed, she was crying and acting strangely like yours when she's normally a quiet cat and I just had her in for an emergency pyometra spay

wherearemywellingtons · 03/05/2024 05:37

Omg you’re exactly the same as me. I’d totally worry the same thing. I also have OCD and massive health anxiety. I always worry there’s going to be a natural disaster when I hear several dogs barking at the same time as I heard they can sense them 😂

Forhecksake · 03/05/2024 06:27

I know you say she doesn't go outdoors, but all bets are off when an animal is in season. They become Houdini, so keep 2 doors between her and outside at all times to be safe.

AvocadoOodie · 03/05/2024 06:38

Eyesopenwideawake · 02/05/2024 23:29

It’s not always about you 🙄

This.

You're up googling because you're convinced she's trying top tell you something about your health (eg cancer) when, in fact, it's most likely that it's because you have neglected her health regarding something that is very likely to give her cancer.

I don't know about cats but I have rabbits and they are almost guaranteed to get uterine cancer if they're not spayed and they haven't had a litter.

On top of that, you keep her locked indoors thereby preventing her from exercising any of her natural instincts.

I'd imagine she's thoroughly miserable.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/05/2024 06:44

Obviously cats can't speak to a human but you could try sellotaping a pencil to her paw and see if she can write down what the issue is?

sashh · 03/05/2024 06:47

WhatTheHellIsGoingOnnn · 02/05/2024 23:07

No she doesn't go outside, and never had been, she's a house cat, even if a door has been left open by accident she won't venture outside.

A cat in heat will try to get out at all costs. A tom can smell a female in heat quite a distance, think miles not metres.

Is she putting her tail to one side as well? That's a fairly sure sign she is in heat.

Book her in with the vet.

ShinyPomPoms · 03/05/2024 06:51

Anytime my (spayed) cat has acted like this (mewling, yowling, chittering, chirping, following me around) it's because there has been a very exciting and fascinating (for her) insect and she wants to tell myself and the whole house all about it.

Since you're cat is unspayed, she's likely in heat and is telling you and the whole house all about it.

MushMonster · 03/05/2024 07:08

For her age and time of the year, she is in heat.
If you let her out or a tom gets into your house, you will have kittens!
Take her to the vet and book her for spaying.

If she's on heat she'll want to

BloodandGlitter · 02/05/2024 22:58

Is she spayed? It sounds like shes in heat.

This. Just back from routine check up with ours and vet said they'd had a lot of requests for urgent appointments for dying cats in the last couple of weeks and he'd had to explain that their cat was just shouting because they were feeling somewhat amorous.

Not always. Ours has the opportunity to go out and used to roam the garden and fields beyond when he was younger but after getting lost for a while after we'd moved house he's never attempted to go out since, aside from the odd bit of sunbathing immediately outside an open window or door.

But back on topic, get her spayed OP!

VestibuleVirgin · 03/05/2024 07:17

Appreciate you matpy be stressed, but languge such as this is unnecessary and wrong. Fuck's sake, it's bad enough dealing withvMH stigma without resorting to pejorative term such as 'commiting' and 'looney bin'.
Take the cat to the vet

fieldsofbutterflies · 03/05/2024 07:18

She's in heat. 100%.

The vet won't do anything until after her cycle is over so you'll just have to be patient and take her in to be spayed as soon as you can.

I had a friend who used to say that, they now have 5 cats instead of 1!

@WhatTheHellIsGoingOnnn

9 months is too old to spray I think.

Mine were done about 3 months.

Cats can be spayed at any age, but the earlier the better.

MJCadman · 03/05/2024 07:51

Yes sorry I know they can be but for the cats sake I mean.
