To believe that my cat is trying to tell me something bad?

My cat has been acting up tonight, she's usually a very quiet kitty and will please herself and most of the time we don't k ow she's here! Tonight she had been meowing non stop, crying and yelling, obviously I've tended to her needs and I can't think of a reason she would be acting like this, shes also being very clingy and won't leave my side either..I've fallen down a Google rabbit hole and I already have make anxiety and OCD amongst other mental health issues. Google has just come up with the delight of cats can sense impending death, heart attacks and cancers and when they sense someone is going to die they will be unsettled and clingy. So now my intrusive brain is worrying that I'm going to die, scared to go to sleep because what is my cat trying to tell me? Deep down I know I'm being totally insane. But is there any truth to googles aims and how likely is it? Currently about to have a breakdown and commit myself to the nearest loony bin. Clearly it's where i belong.

This. Just back from routine check up with ours and vet said they'd had a lot of requests for urgent appointments for dying cats in the last couple of weeks and he'd had to explain that their cat was just shouting because they were feeling somewhat amorous.

Fucking hell.

We did so much research before taking on rabbits to make sure we could give them the best life possible.

It's worrying when people take on animals without having done even the most basic research about them and believe that the animals are mystical creatures trying to communicate something nefarious with them instead of recognising their own responsibilties.

MJCadman · 03/05/2024 08:35

It's strange that when googling you only picked up on the things that could affect you and not your kitten.

LakeTiticaca · 03/05/2024 09:29

Animals can be very perceptive but in thise case she will probably be in heat. Have you heard any tomcats wailing in the vicinity?
Get her done, like, yesterday

WhatTheHellIsGoingOnnn · 03/05/2024 10:37

I've called the vets and she is booked in to be spayed, they will do it even if she in season, just an extra charge. They were a lot less judgy and rude then some of you. But thanks to those that offered helpful comments.

Cats do not have an ultruistic bone in their body. Quite frankly if you were ill she wouldn't give a crap, even if she did have some way of knowing. As long as you stuck around long enough to feed her that is.
Something is clearly off but it will be with her not you. Have you changed her food, moved her favorite box or could she be in pain?

FooFighter99 · 03/05/2024 11:15

@WhatTheHellIsGoingOnnn I know you say she's an indoor cat, but if she is in season, then she'll be much more inclined to go wandering to find a male. So please do keep an extra eye on her

KreedKafer · 03/05/2024 11:18

Your cat is absolutely not telling you that you're about to die. This is utter nonsense.

Glad you've booked your cat in to get spayed!

Are you getting any support with your mental health?

Holly2007 · 03/05/2024 12:06

Well done op, we rescued a cat when we lived in Australia who went into heat and our garden filled up with stray cats desperate to mate her. There were a surprising amount of stray cats in Adalaide and one cat actually attacked my leg trying to get to her, it was quite scary. Vet spayed her that day!

MJCadman · 03/05/2024 07:51

Yes sorry I know they can be but for the cats sake I mean.

Yep, totally agree with you on that one!

Bumblebeeinatree · 03/05/2024 12:37

If she's looking fat she could be pregnant or about to give birth. They get very uncomfortable just before the birth.

Not true, we had an aunty staying with us who although she looked fine was actually very ill with cancer. She woke in the night feeling really bad (we had gone to bed, she didn't wake us so we didn't know until the morning) and our standoffish cat sat beside her for hours being very friendly as only cats can, she was very touched and said it really seemed like the cat understood and was sympathising with her and keeping her company, she said he made her feel so much better.

Yes totally, we haven't gotten around to getting her done yet but we fully intend to.

GOT* not gotten, and you need to get her spayed asap. No excuses for 'haven't got around to doing it'. Poor thing

'Gotten' is fine. It is an alternative version, most often used in the USA nowadays.

Gotten is awful. Maybe used in the USA, but bloody well not in the UK. It's 'got.'

BobbyBiscuits · 03/05/2024 13:12

She's desperate to go outside, and is probably on heat. She needs to have a hysterectomy. Once she has this, can you allow her out? In an ideal world cats want outdoor space.
She may need updates on her vaccines as well.

'Gotten' was the original English language version which went over to the States with the Pilgrim Fathers et al. They still use the original, in the UK it is largely obsolete, but not incorrect. 🙂

Incidentally we do still use 'forgotten' as well as 'forgot'.

fieldsofbutterflies · 03/05/2024 16:51

@marshmallowfinder gotten is actually the original English - "got" is the modern version.

Glad that you are getting her spayed. She may not normally want to go out but cats in heat are desperate to get to the nearest male, and they her! Be very vigilant until you've had her spayed!

I got mine done around the 6 month mark, except for my rescues which had already been spayed/neutered when they came to live with me.

And if she is used to being indoors, keep her in where she's content. So many horrible things and evil people can befall a cat.

Runnerinthenight · 03/05/2024 17:01

bradpittsbathwater · 03/05/2024 03:36

Keeping a cat indoors is cruel. Get her spayed for gods sake and let her outside.

Tell that to my three draped luxuriously across my sofa and footstool fast asleep!

It is NOT cruel if the cat is content. Mine are. They don't look to go out and I am so glad.

Runnerinthenight · 03/05/2024 17:04

MJCadman · 03/05/2024 07:26

@WhatTheHellIsGoingOnnn

9 months is too old to spray I think.

Mine were done about 3 months.

OMG that's such crap! I had a male neutered in his early teens! Stop peddling nonsense!

Excited101 · 03/05/2024 17:12

Well done booking her in op, it’s possible there were male cats lurking outside which she could see/smell and it upset her. Poor little thing. Now you can relax ☺️

IncompleteSenten · 03/05/2024 17:46

Are you feeling any better now, op?
Not with all the snarky comments, obviously. I mean now you know its a simple matter of spaying your cat and not a sign somethings going to happen to you.
Is this the first time you've felt this way?

ilovepixie · 03/05/2024 17:52

How's the cat now? Is she still unsettled?

CurlewKate · 03/05/2024 17:53

She's on heat. Make sure you keep her in. And make an appointment tent to have her spayed.

The simplest explanation is almost always the right one.
