To believe that my cat is trying to tell me something bad?

My cat has been acting up tonight, she's usually a very quiet kitty and will please herself and most of the time we don't k ow she's here! Tonight she had been meowing non stop, crying and yelling, obviously I've tended to her needs and I can't think of a reason she would be acting like this, shes also being very clingy and won't leave my side either..I've fallen down a Google rabbit hole and I already have make anxiety and OCD amongst other mental health issues. Google has just come up with the delight of cats can sense impending death, heart attacks and cancers and when they sense someone is going to die they will be unsettled and clingy. So now my intrusive brain is worrying that I'm going to die, scared to go to sleep because what is my cat trying to tell me? Deep down I know I'm being totally insane. But is there any truth to googles aims and how likely is it? Currently about to have a breakdown and commit myself to the nearest loony bin. Clearly it's where i belong.

How's the cat now? Is she still unsettled?

She's much less unsettled and she calmed down eventually last night, she was asleep on my pillow this morning 🤣 shes been a bit yelpy and still very vocal today, very clingy and affectionate but she is usually very affectionate anyway.

If she's looking fat she could be pregnant or about to give birth. They get very uncomfortable just before the birth.

She has never been outside, not even in the garden. Well she has but only in her cat carrier.

She's desperate to go outside, and is probably on heat. She needs to have a hysterectomy. Once she has this, can you allow her out? In an ideal world cats want outdoor space.
She may need updates on her vaccines as well.

Yes they will be doing vaccines as well when she goes.

Are you feeling any better now, op?
Not with all the snarky comments, obviously. I mean now you know its a simple matter of spaying your cat and not a sign somethings going to happen to you.
Is this the first time you've felt this way?

Thanks, I've long sunning issue with my mental health and am I fer the care of CMHT although I've been doing well the last few weeks sometimes I have moments. Which is this, I know it may sound selfish but I think the whole thing with Cleo being unusual triggered something.

I don't know why people had to be so rude, as it was clear from your opening post that you weren't all that well.

I hope you feel better in yourself, and in knowing what is the matter with Cleo. You were kind to take her in. Take care x

I expect the ableist language and the fact yet another person has taken on an animal without bothering to Google very basic care, has rubbed people up the wrong way.

Well done for making the appointment OP.

I understand. I struggle myself and I know how your thoughts can go round and round and really disturb you.
Take care of yourself.

No she hadn't been yet, she's around 9 months old

This. If she’s not been spayed, she’s in heat.

Tell me you’re a Richard without telling me you’re a Richard.

Nasty! Mocking someone who is clearly mentally unwell isn’t big, and it isn’t clever!

She’s unwell or in heat as opposed to a portent of doom. 🤨

Take her to the vet and stop being so silly.

Your cat is 9 months old & not spayed/neurered. She is in heat, this is exactly how they behave when in heat, and the timing is right. So stop worrying about your own health/that you’re going to die. Instead get her booked in to be spayed with a vet, and in the meantime do not let her outside or she will definitely get pregnant and it’s very dangerous for such a young kitten to be pregnant & give birth.

next time your cat shows any kind of behaviour you aren’t sure of, contact a vet, assume it is an issue with her and it’s not about you, aslong as you are looking after her well & not doing anything to harm her it is not about you.

WhatTheHellIsGoingOnnn · 03/05/2024 10:37

I've called the vets and she is booked in to be spayed, they will do it even if she in season, just an extra charge. They were a lot less judgy and rude then some of you. But thanks to those that offered helpful comments.

That's good.

It's probably she in heat and wanting out.

There are quite a few button speaking cats now - possible a better insight into cat brains than the woo stories.

How many times do I have to tell you to come when called?!? | BilliSpeaks

Apparently my recall needs work, but don’t worry - she’ll continue my training 😂“Walk” is a relatively new button, and I think she still needs to figure out...

TimeInBlue · 02/05/2024 23:35

She will now!! She will be desperate to get out so watch very carefully if you open any window/doors because she will become like liquid and escape the smallest gap.

yup! When our cat went on heat (at about 5-6 months, waiting to hit the 2kg limit for surgery) she became a dedicated escape artist. You had to have ninja skills opening or closing the front door as she'd go flying out like a bullet. She leaped from a first floor window once. It'll be all the cat wants to do. And she was so shouty and horny and annoying. God, I couldn't live with an unspayed cat again.

ConsistentlyElectrifiedElves · 07/05/2024 13:18

Fagled · 02/05/2024 23:11

Every time a female cat goes through heat their chance of developing certain types of cancer increase.

If this is indeed her first, you’ve missed the chance to have her spayed early and potentially entirely eliminate her chances of developing various cancers.

Its imperative cat owners get female cats spayed early.

Edited

I was going to add this. I lost my last cat to a cancer that would have likely not occurred had she not gone through heat. In her case she'd actually had kittens before I adopted her from a rescue place. She lived to 13, but would have lived a lot longer if it wasn't for the cancer.

When we got our next rescue cats one was already spayed but the other was too young. I couldn't bear to go through that again though, so couldn't wait to get her booked in (which wasn't easy as it was peak Covid times!).

I'd say it definitely sounds like this little girl is in heat. I had a previous rescue go through it (despite being spayed, the vet could only find one ovary at the time, so did warn us it might happen). It's an awful noise and very distressing for owners to witness.

potato57 · 07/05/2024 13:23

Don't let the vet charge you extra for her being in heat, that's absolutely ridiculous. Any good vet charges the same regardless.

Also your cat is complaining because there's a problem with your cat. Try not to make it about you, because at some point in the future you'll be sitting there worrying about yourself for no reason and the poor animal will be in actual distress. Dogs can smell late stage cancer, that's it. Kittens are only focused on themselves.

GreyDreamer · 07/05/2024 21:43

You’ve had lots of advice about getting the cat spayed, take to vet to check etc. so I just wanted to comment and say I understand how tough that must be mentally from all the googling when you have anxiety and OCD. The spiralling is a horrible feeling and so exhausting , I hope you can relax a little once you have taken the cat to the vet. If not please remember to speak with your GP to address any concerns you may have. Hope your cat has calmed down now and you have managed to relax a bit (and as my friends would tell me, stop googling!)

GreyDreamer · 07/05/2024 21:49

MJCadman · 03/05/2024 08:35

It's strange that when googling you only picked up on the things that could affect you and not your kitten.

if the OP is struggling with anxiety / OCD then it’s actually not that strange. It indicates they are struggling with their mental health and they should be treated with kindness and care to support them.

BlaHaHa · 07/05/2024 21:52

Is she hungry?

WhatTheHellIsGoingOnnn · 07/05/2024 23:12

Just an update, she is booked in to be spayed at the end of the month all being well, I took her to the vets already but theyve now said they won't do it in her cycle so to wait. Cleo is much better now, she's not meowing and yelling anymore and has gone back to her usual playful self so that's good. Thanks to everyone who offered some kind and helpful advice. I just want to say that number 1, i rescued Cleo as a neglected kitten, she was in a right state when she came to us, a shy scared timid little thing and a bag of bones. I've spent so much time with her and she's like my little shadow, and I adore her. So the comments about me basically being a shitty person and a shitty cat owner for making this post I feel are just unnecessary. Secondly, yes I do suffer from numerous mental health issues including OCD and major anxiety etc and I am in treatment for this. The comments about "stop being stupid or silly," again unnecessary, it's absolute hell living in my head and I don't wish on anyone what I have to go through every single day with my mental health that causes me to think like this sometimes. So before making comment on that maybe stop and think. But anyway, she is fine now and will be spayed by the end of the month, hopefully avoiding this again. Just to add, there was a comment making out she needs to be outdoors etc she is a house cat, she does not like to go outside, she has never even attempted it, even this past week while she's been on heat, doors have been left open etc she has never once tried to bolt. She's a very shy non curious girl. She's happy to be indoors and very content.

She’s beautiful op! I’m glad she’s doing better and you don’t need to worry any more.

Lesleymumof3kids · 07/05/2024 23:51

She is horny and singing the song of her ancestors. She is also super affectionate because she is after some loving and would swipe right on any tomcat available. She will rub herself over everything to scent it and will sit "funny" with her bum in the air and may spray things with her pee to attract any and every tomcat in the vicinity to service her! Spaying her is the answer to this strange behaviour and have her on lockdown until then ....she may not want out but horny males will try to get in by any means to get to her.

m00ngirl · 07/05/2024 23:56

@WhatTheHellIsGoingOnnn there is no such thing as a "house cat", just a cat that is cruelly kept indoors... I'm surprised a shelter let you rescue her a) without spaying her first and b) knowing she'd be kept indoors. That is completely unusual.

When she is spayed maybe start to put her litter tray outside and give her little treats in the garden so she is encouraged to venture into the sunshine and fresh air and experience being a cat freely. If she had early trauma you may need to build up her confidence a bit.

I didn't come to pile on though - well done for booking the spay and for seeking help when you were worried. I DO think animals can pick up on sickness and bad things sometimes - not a silly thing to wonder at all - but more often than not their complaints are about their own problems! Take good care of yourself x
