Potential threat of snipers

Does anyone else always close curtains/blinds before turning on lights in a dark room just in case there's a sniper lurking outside? I'm not a woman who's likely to have a hit on me, but I feel like it's a sensible thing to do nonetheless.

I do pull my bedroom curtains. There's a bus stop just up the road. If someone parks there, I often have the top deck of a london bus staring straight in 😁

BlueMum16 · 02/05/2024 22:18

Curtains are for closing? I thought that was just if I've not tidied up and the window cleaner turns up 😂

Yes, I’ve watched Luther..

What about under the bed, though?

TwelveAngryWhiskers · 02/05/2024 22:20

Ex sniper here 🙋‍♀️

We use night vision riflescopes so we can shoot you whether you turn your light on or not.

VWT5 · 02/05/2024 22:26

If I’m in a pub, restaurant or any public place, I have to sit in a corner, back against the wall (with a clear view and secondary escape route planned) for when the Parachute Regiment or snipers make a sudden entry. 😂

I “might” also park offset from neighbouring vehicles sitting at traffic lights…

See this was what my DD very matter of factly said. She may or may not have eye rolled while saying it. But she still went into my bedroom ahead of me and did the curtains in the dark while I lurked in the doorway just in case.

I was busy worrying about Spider's Willies.

Adds snipers to the list.

You see, I never worry about spider willies. I like to leave washing out overnight in the summer to be 'darked on'. It's the smell of fresh, cool air on it. I don't think spider willies must smell.

Icepop79 · 02/05/2024 22:29

Definitely pull the curtains before turning the light on. But not for snipers. It’s in case the baddie in the Scream mask is outside.

Churchview · 02/05/2024 22:32

My mum pulled the curtains at dusk her entire life for fear of being shot through the window.

She is sadly dead now but not of gunshot wounds. Those curtains really worked.

DustyLee123 · 02/05/2024 21:57

Not for a sniper, that’s silly. It’s so the murderer can’t see inside.

And so you can't see the murderer staring in the window at you

BarrelOfOtters · 02/05/2024 22:09

You should be ok as long as you don’t wear your general de Gaulle hat.

😆😆😆

No but, when I'm driving and somebody pulls up besides me I have an irrational fear I'm gonna be taken out by a drive-by shooting 😬

I witnessed a drive by shooting in Birmingham Alabama when I was staying in a Motel there (alone, at age 19...having travelled there from the UK. No idea why my parents allowed this but that's a different discussion). It was a pedestrian that it was aimed at but I was walking also and froze in pure terror. Ran back to my room and called home.

Dont forget your laundry being darked on. I can't stop thinking about spider's willies and laundry being darked on when it's not dry enough to take in by sunset.

Personally I'm more worried about zombies and werewolfs then snipers. The fast smart type of zombies, not the slow dumb types in older movies. At least with a sniper if they're good it'll be quick and there's no trying to run away and failing while terrified. Im overweight and very sick and literally couldn't run to save my life.

CremeBruleeLove · 02/05/2024 22:43

😂😂😂🙄

HauntedBungalow · 02/05/2024 22:44

Only when I'm in my holiday home in Dorking. But the ex SAS security detail provided there is spot on.

HauntedBungalow · 02/05/2024 22:45

The fast smart zombies, not the slow dumb ones.

Zoombies. Yes, they are a worry.

greengreyblue · 02/05/2024 22:48

When walking my dog I’m always amazed at the amount of people with curtains wide open , big light on and everything on show. Your eyes are drawn in. I always close my blinds before putting lights on.

BrioNotBiro · 02/05/2024 22:49

Zigzag across the sitting room when you go out to put the kettle on - that will confound them.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 02/05/2024 22:50

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 02/05/2024 22:16

I never keep my head still. That one weird trick that snipers HATE.

But what if they aren't going for a head shot?!

OP... since you are here to post your question, your tactics are clearly working. Wise words, yes, sensible.

WonderingWanda · 02/05/2024 22:53

No, the cat really likes chasing their laser sight around the room!

"walking my dog" ... 🤔

You're a sniper, aren't you?

MysweetAudrina · 02/05/2024 22:55

I'm still trying to avoid the triffids, not overly concerned with snipers or murderers.

SwanRonsen · 02/05/2024 22:55

StrongasSixpence · 02/05/2024 22:14

I don't draw my downstairs curtains ever as I am surrounded by hedges which deter the murderers. I do try and remember to do the bedroom blind however as it looks over an alleyway and DP always reminds me not to show the neighborhood hoodlums who vape in the alley before school my morning nakeds. Putting my dressing gown on sorts the problem.

Oh man, you're so wrong, the murderers LOVE the hedges! That's what they duck down beside when you turn and glance in their direction! Get those curtains closed quick.

MsMuffinWalloper · 02/05/2024 22:55

I do it because the man over the road has his desk by the window, lights on and never draws the curtains. I am sure he is watching me and not looking at his screen. I keep the curtains closed in my bedroom most days because of this.

A sniper might be preferable tbh, I've lived here 7 years!

TinkerTiger · 02/05/2024 22:07

Don't be silly.

It's Richard Ramirez risen from the dead that I'm afraid of.

I watch too much true crime docs.

If it's Richard Ramirez risen from the dead you're worried about, you definitely should not watch season 9 of American Horror Story (Camp Redwood)...
