To be beyond sick of this foul weather!?

Just this! Will we actually ever get some decent weather, I swear it has been raining since last July. I don't think my mental health will take much more. Luckily I have a couple of summer holidays planned somewhere hot, but even still. Bleugh.

Again, not how it works.

Unless you're expecting an actual peasant's revolt, the prices will go up some more, eveyone will be angry about it, living standards will drop again, and life will go on.

Supermarkets can't and won't absorb significant price rises. Nor can farmers.

There may be a revolt. People will only take so much. In France there would be riots, we British are so stupidly docile but even we must surely have our limits.

I feel colder now than I did in the winter! Our house is always too hot, but the last 2 weeks it's been freezing when I've woke up. I normally have my summer clothes out of storage by now. I've decided to reign myself in, in terms of spending on new stuff, in case there's only a few weeks to wear it.

tobee · 29/04/2024 19:52

Yeah the BBC long range forecast on the app is always changing its mind (usually says "fabulous weather for your UK holiday" but then the day before it's "actually non stop rain and freezing") Today has been sunny in SW London. But that's it; rain every day until the 7th. Then a few dry days before rain again!!

How long though, after a couple of sunny days in a month or 2, until we got hosepipe bans and talk of a drought?! 🤣😆😝

tracktrail · 29/04/2024 19:59

If the rain isn't enough to contend with, I have a colleague who is relentlessly going on that the weather is the 'elites' spraying the skies to make the weather bad. Proof being that in 2020, when no planes flew, the weather was gorgeous. Apparently, the clouds aren't 'natural' clouds but manufactured by planes spraying. Pilots are part of it and criminals according to him. he stands yelling abuse at the planes

I end up wanting to drown him in a puddle!

NewspaperTaxis · 29/04/2024 20:00

Bought some grass seed to get a bit of a lawn going - no shoots at all so far, and it's been two weeks or so. I suppose it's down to the cold weather. Two week s ago or so I had a day of sunbathing - false dawn.

ethelredonagoodday · 29/04/2024 20:01

It's awful and depressing. You are not wrong OP!

Same! It's just sitting there, providing a buffet for the fat wood pigeons.

Sellingbedtime · 29/04/2024 20:10

It is testing 🙄

Today was quite warm and sunny in the south east. Dare we get our hopes up??

FunkyMonks · 29/04/2024 20:10

I know I'm the same fed up now of this crap weather feels like one long winter with hardly any decent weather aside from the odd day of sun followed by weeks of rain after having that one day.

MsLuxLisbon · 29/04/2024 19:38

Of course they're overcharging! I have noticed that they've started to roll it back a little, though. For the first time in about half a year, I have noticed that my food bills have gone down.

What evidence do you have of this overcharging?

Costs of things have gone up as wages have increased, oil and gas prices have increased, and supply chains have been disrupted.

OnehundredStars · 29/04/2024 20:12

Im in my fleece lined boots and woolly jumper 🤓

FunkyMonks · 29/04/2024 20:14

Also it's having such a bad impact on my motivation I just feel so sluggish because it's horrible and cold I just want it to be nice now bright sunny sky getting out more even being able to just sit out in my garden for five would be nice.

wellington77 · 29/04/2024 20:14

Are there any weather experts who know if it might get better over the next month?! I’m desperate for a bit more warmth!

I am cautiously optimistic, I believe that the longer range forecast for May is that it is to be drier. It just can't keep on raining like this, there will be a shift at some point. Sometimes these very miserable springs lead to a blazing summer, as well.

They won't be able to absorb prices - they don't have a duty to ensure we are fed

lol with the profits Tesco is reporting they bloody well can absorb some cost!!!! 2.3 Billion the past year. Just think about that.

Exactly. I genuinely think people won't take much more. We're sick of being ripped off and fobbed off.

£2.3bn profits for a year. Sounds big, but think about it for more than a couple of seconds.

Over their 3,433 stores in the UK, that's £670k profit per year per store.

That's £1,835 profit per store per day.

With an average of 4,000 customers per store per day, that's 46 pence profit per customer visit.

Lets say an average customer shop of 5-10 items. About 5p-8p profit per item. The profit they make on each item is literally pennies.

Supermarkets make profit from volume of sales, not from gouging prices and having big markups on things.

If they stopped marking anything up tomorrow, you'd maybe save a tenner.

WildFlowerBees · 29/04/2024 20:28

This is the first year I've got actual plans for my garden but I can't seem to get much done. However if I'm told that we'll suffer a 40 degree summer I'll keep the rain. Was it this wet last year?!

Hate to be the bearer of more bad news, but just seen this:

https://www.express.co.uk/news/weather/1893697/uk-cold-weather-maps

I really am despairing now 😬

Anything that says they can give you an exact date when the temperature is going to be an exact figure, in a fortnight, is grade A bolleaux.

tracktrail · 29/04/2024 20:38

Express is shite for anything weather wise. Catastrophic weather constantly forecast all year round.
If it's in there, it's not likely.

It's dry and sunny here on London today and set for the high teens temperature wise this week.

If it any consolation, I did contemplate building an Ark at some point in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Saturday night and early Sunday morning in London was ridiculous!! I was scared to look outside 😂

Meredusoleil · 29/04/2024 20:49

Glad to hear that article is likely not accurate! Fingers crossed for some dry sunny weather soon 🤞

I wish people would stop conflating ‘mental health’ with ‘day to day mood’.
