I am surprised at the level of Islamophobia on Mumsnet

I have seen a number of threads on Mumsnet over the last couple of days that question relationships with Muslim men, Muslim Marriages and suggest that Islam is an extreme religion looking to take over the world. I am a Hindu (nominally at least), but come from a country where inter faith marriages are common and where I am friends with and related to a number of Muslims.

Guess what. They are all normal people just looking to get on with their lives, doing the best for their family and friends. They are good citizens and they harm no-one.

There is a building view on Mumsnet that Islam is dangerous, repressive and looking to take over the world. It is now different to any other religion, as are the people.

young men are listening and agreeing with the kind of tripe I would include Andrew Tate in that. There are some disgusting male influencers about now and is important we all as mums educate our sons to respect women as equals

i include him in the right wing fanatics tbh. But yes.

(have enjoyed that Tailor chap on Twitter really outlining how Tate's vanity on his physique makes him dress so badly and makes him look like a twit)

wtf you on about with goose and gander?

plenty of us complain about ageism the other way too.

But you are equating over 55s with Islamophobia. That is ageist claptrap

@Brefugee completely agree. Most of us try and call the rogue ones out. But we are ignored mostly. I'm always happy to provide reputable sources, based on my own research. But I only do so if asked or if its a discussion like this.

Otherwise I wouldn't bring it up in conversation.

Indeed and instead of an impressionable young man one of the people on the sexist podcast I mentioned is even a lawyer. Obviously all we women know there is sexism amongst most groups of men.

Interesting case I just saw by the way - if you want help from the state with housing they will not find a house for you near a private school of your choice. In this case the individual wanted to remain near a private Islamic school. The Court of Appeal says local authorities do not have to house people near particular religious schools https://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWCA/Civ/2024/405.html In the case concerned the parents had found a private fee paying Islamic school for their child. although the principle of a parent in social housing / homeless who had a child in a private Catholic school etc would also be treated the same of course.

That’s because it’s not “trendy” to support Christianity. People just like to blindly support all aspects of Islam because of all the calls or “racism” if you don’t. Christianity doesn’t have the same virtue signalling draw, sadly. Probably why so many Muslim men in Rotherham were allowed to get away with raping teenage white girls for as long as they were. Or why everyone is pouring out vocal support for Palestine, and ignoring some of the extremely dubious behaviour happening on these marches.

so glad someone made this point. 100% agree. We ignore so much because the government is terrified of being called racist.
