Neighbours oxygen tank

Tevion1213 · 27/04/2024 17:37

I'm not one to complain and I am usually tolerant but the distinct popping noise from upstairs neighbours oxygen tank is irritating me so much. They are on 17 hours of oxygen so it's going all through the night. I know it's a medical need and don't know how to deal with this.
Its 3 pops followed by a final louder one and it's constant. Anybody please

I've every sympathy with somebody on oxygen no way to live his wife obviously puts up with it. Their TV has been loud, at times but I can tolerate that and I've even had to listen to the air in the pipes when they flush the toilet which sounds like the titanic coming in but the oxygen noise tops the lot.

White noise or a fan. DS works 10pm til 2am and will game to wind down before bed. I can’t sleep if I can hear noise so use the fan to dull the sound. The fans annoying at first but I can’t sleep without it now.

Agree 💯
Ive had a fan in the bedroom for 20+ years and can’t sleep without it. If it’s too quiet, I imagine I can hear things😱
Sorry for you OP, it’s tough if it’s disturbing your sleep, but such a sensitive issue. I guess you’ve tried moving furniture etc?
Try the fan, it might just work xx

EdgarsTale · 27/04/2024 18:48

God, you sound heartless. They’re obviously in a really bad way.

Get better soundproofing or move somewhere decent? You’re lucky they’re not actually being anti social & playing loud music etc.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 27/04/2024 18:50

Why are some thick people not understanding that the OP is asking for advice on the noise, rather than being heartless/lacking empathy etc?

It's not a long thread, so pretty easy to read what she's saying?

If I was heartless I'd have been around there complaining by now.

The walls sound paper thin, and rubbish, that is the problem.

rwalker · 27/04/2024 18:58

What an incredibly difficult situation but we all need sleep to function
you can have all the sympathy and empathy in the world but that won’t help you function on a day to day basis with interrupted sleep

I think the best you can do is ear plugs ,white noise machine , background noise or sleeping downstairs

I don’t think OP is a twat she just needs some sleep she’s not marching round cutting the plug off it

Heartbreaktuna · 27/04/2024 19:22

Wax ear plugs from boots. They are completely noise cancelling, I wear them every night.

123anotherday · 27/04/2024 19:40

@Tevion1213 there may actually be a problem with his oxygen concentrator ( which could mean an actual issue with the oxygen delivery!) so you are doing them a favour if you go and mention it or manage to catch any visiting health professionals .

Christ.
I get it might be annoying but WTF do you expect them to do about it?!
Get yourself some earplugs or something.
YABVU.

Blueblell · 27/04/2024 19:44

It sounds like poor soundproofing generally. But is it possible to talk to his wife to see if it is placed in the optimum position for reducing noise to you downstairs? I know that would be a very difficult conversation! Someone mentioned the driver who delivers - don’t know how feasible it would be to have a quiet word with them if they are someone with experience of placing the oxygen units?

EsmeSusanOgg · 27/04/2024 19:44

White noise and ear plugs. I suspect they would much rather not be using the oxygen.

"His wife obviously puts up with it " wow!! Unbelievable! His wife is more probably grateful it's keeping him alive.
Yes they're noisy, my father was on one for 24 hours a day, and had his neighbour mentioned the noise I would probably have quite happily killed them.

Fungkew · 27/04/2024 19:57

Sympathy to you OP. I definitely think noise cancelling earplugs would be worth trying.

Overthebow · 27/04/2024 20:04

I’d struggle with this too op, you’re not being unreasonable. Obviously you can’t go round and ask about it or complain, but there might be things you can do to minimise the annoyance at night. Have you tried white noise?

WhamBamThankU · 27/04/2024 20:05

LongLostSock · 27/04/2024 17:39

Take a deep breath.

Coz they ain't and be grateful.

Sorry, this made me laugh 🤣

BronwenTheBrave · 27/04/2024 20:06

Report them to the police?

you are joking right ?

LeafyEmerald · 27/04/2024 20:08

Bookshelves, fabulous for soundproofing

WorriedMama12 · 27/04/2024 20:10

Your best bet is a white noise machine or having a fan on.

flapjackfairy · 27/04/2024 20:11

@LeafyEmerald
The neighbours are in the flat above .

Universalsnail · 27/04/2024 20:13

This would absolutely drive me up the wall as well but unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it. I'd try and down it out with my own noise or try ear plugs.

Universalsnail · 27/04/2024 20:14

BronwenTheBrave · 27/04/2024 20:06

Report them to the police?

Excuse me officer the upstairs neighbour is trying to stay alive, please arrest him 😂 yeah ok

Tahinii · 27/04/2024 20:14

It doesn’t sound right. I would approach them and say you’re concerned there may be a problem with the oxygen concentrator for his own health and safety! They shouldn’t make a noise you can hear next door!!

Report them to the police?

For what? Do you see what a ludicrous comment that is 🤦🏻‍♀️
