Young neighbours have just moved in next door. This morning (wasn't eavesdropping, honest) heard a relative ask if they had met any of their neighbours, oh yes they replied...there is a nice old woman next door. Old? I'M ONLY 63!!

This got me wondering if I was giving off 'old lady' vibes.

Possible indications:

I occasionally glance in a shop mirror and wonder why my mum is there dressed in my clothes.
My pubic hair is disappearing, and seems to be making it's way to my chin
Last week I bought 3 lovely geraniums
Last year I bought and planted a hydrangea in my garden
After a couple of tiny accidents, am wondering if I should buy some tena lady knickers.
Caught myself wondering if I should crochet a bed jacket ...it can be chilly in bed whilst reading a book!
Am having actual conversations with my cat
My box room is stuffed with wool ' just in case'
This morning, completely out of the blue found myself singing the song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and I CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD.
Jumped - in my motor-car - and bought 3 more geraniums

Indications I am not old:

Ermm, I am young in my head!

I am not being unreasonable, you are in your prime!
I am unreasonable. You are heading into old biddy territory!

My neighbours are your age, both retired and have a few grandkids. Yes sorry I think of them as old. I don’t think that’s negative.

Lol, I am writing this in my dressing gown lying in bed. I promise I am "chill" 😂

Your previous post would suggest differently. This is a lighthearted thread.

Enjoyed your light hearted thread 😁
Depends on how old the neighbours are. If they are early/mid 20s, 63 is old. My adult son’s grandmother is late 50s, so he would definitely say 63 is old 🤣
At least they said you were a nice old lady, and not a crazy old lady 🤣

WOW what massive gaslighting FIBBER the OP is. 😦 She said 63 here and 64 on another thread! SHOCKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😂

LMFAO! 😆

to be fair I have to think how old I am before I say it most of the time, especially shortly after a birthday. I spent the entirety of being 35 saying I was 36, only to discover a few weeks before my birthday that I was wrong 😅 So I got to be 36 again...in my head at least.

PeppermintParty · 27/04/2024 15:58

Do police officer and doctors all look younger than you? That's when I knew I was old.

IamaRevenant · 27/04/2024 16:01

I'm only 39, still go to gigs and so on and have a wide age range of friends from early 20s to 60s.

It has come out that some of the younger ones think I WANT to mother them - like I want to be in a motherly role?? I'm 39 and happily child free, I do not want a 25 year old assuming I'll cook for them or look after them in any way!

During COVID when we were limited as to what we could do DH (40) and I gave a lift home to a friend (it was an emergency, DV situation) and were pulled over in Wales due to the COVID travel rules. Our friend told the police she was our daughter. She's 8 years younger than us!!!

So I do feel your pain but most of your hobbies are quite...old. Maybe get yourself to a punk gig or rave, there'll be plenty others your age there!

CosmosQueen · 27/04/2024 16:07

I’m definitely old and heading for being decrepit at 70.
i have had a number of years perfecting where you’re at OP and the best thing is I don’t give a toss what others think!
I’m just glad to have got to three score years and ten 🙏

I never used to know what they meant by that . I thought maybe they were starting the job younger .But these days ..

WelshNerd · 27/04/2024 16:12

My mum is 71 and often talks about "the old ladies" at her club. Obviously she's not old but the 75+ ladies are.

SpongeBobSquarePantaloons · 27/04/2024 16:14

Hey! I love geraniums and hydrangeas and I'm in my twenties 🤣

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/04/2024 16:15

Except for the crocheted bed jacket (can’t crochet) I ticked several of those on your list, inc. vast stash of yarn (knitting) and getting a wee bit leaky now and then.

I’m a fair bit older than you, and now have to accept that I’m seen as ‘old’ (despite never having gone grey - lucky genes) - Gdd1 very kindly told me that I’ve got wrinkles because I’m so old now, and people do quite often offer me the ‘wrinkly’ seats on the bus. I nearly always decline, with very polite thanks!

Also, while we were on the top,of a bus passing the local crem/cemetery not long ago, Gdd1 wondered why there were cars parked there.

I explained that there was probably a funeral going on, plus, people often like to go and put flowers on the grave of someone they loved.

‘I’ll do that for you, Granny!’
‘Thank you, darling.’ 😩😍

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 27/04/2024 16:17

Post of the day, absolute class!
Nearly wet myself laughing (My Tena lady would have caught it) 🤣

fluffiphlox · 27/04/2024 15:31

I’m in my 60s and consider myself old-er, definitely not old or elderly.

Same.

lostoldname · 27/04/2024 16:18

Did they catch you using the Merlin bird app

OldTinHat · 27/04/2024 16:22

Wait until you are congratulated on your friends 70th birthday. For being 70 when you're 52.

Or taking your 77yr old mother to a museum and being asked if you are also a 'senior'. When you're 52.

I'm only ever booking senior tickets to anything from now on as I'm apparently ancient!! 😆

Luxell934 · 27/04/2024 16:25

You’re old to them, but someone in their 80s might call you young 🤷🏻‍♀️ it is what it is!

LammasEve · 27/04/2024 16:26

Oh God, I'm younger than you and I have geraniums!

I've always had conversations with the cats, they are very good listeners and only slightly judgemental.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 27/04/2024 16:28

SoftPuppyBlanket · 27/04/2024 15:26

Yes, you are old! Let's face it, most 'young' people are not stocking up on wool and buying geraniums for shits and giggles 🤣
I will say though your post was funny! Definitely not lost your sense of humour no matter how advanced in years you may be!!

I must have two prematurely 'old' 28 year olds then.

One not only talks to the cat but has conversations with her hamster.

The other has a box of wool under her bed so she can crochet things when she wants.
🤣

VincentVanGoth · 27/04/2024 16:29

I’m mid 40s and have always felt relatively young for my age, but last week I went to my colleagues 25th birthday party in a nightclub and the next day I’d aged 20 years.

tillytoodles1 · 27/04/2024 16:29

I know how you feel. I live in an over 55's flat and one day a young lads car wouldn't start, I overheard him on the phone telling someone that he was by the old people's home!

bryceQ · 27/04/2024 16:30

I love a garden centre trip and I'm 34!

Nannyfannybanny · 27/04/2024 16:32

73, and not old..my 2 DD,53 and 32, assure me I'm not. They are my biggest critics
. I met a relative by marriage, white hair, curly perm I thought she was in her 80s, I was 51, she was just a couple of years older
. one of my friends has a mother my age, she also rocks the 50s white perm. I became a grandparent at 42, woman I worked with sniggered, said doesn't that make you feel old, nope. We worked together, she was 27, me 41, she asked the patients how old they thought she was, they said definitely older than me. I must admit she had a tight curly perm as well. When I was pregnant with my youngest,a lot of people asked if she was my first, and I actually had a 21 year old.

LostittoBostik · 27/04/2024 16:33

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 27/04/2024 15:15

You're not old, mind you I don't see my 80yo mother as old so I'm probably not the best judge. Then again I'm only 20 but I've been 20 for 35 years.

Supersimkin2 · 27/04/2024 16:34

Geraniums are cool at the moment. So am
I. Just finished tweaking a junior human for a shoot for A Well Known Fashion Chain.

I’m 56 and all the kidz want my white-blond hair. I love bedsocks, a warm jersey and sitting in the car with sandwiches too. And emojis.

LostittoBostik · 27/04/2024 16:35

I think 70 is the start of "old" - but if they're very young then maybe they can't see the difference between early 60s and early 70s.
Don't worry, time will catch up with them too eventually
