Young neighbours have just moved in next door. This morning (wasn't eavesdropping, honest) heard a relative ask if they had met any of their neighbours, oh yes they replied...there is a nice old woman next door. Old? I'M ONLY 63!!

This got me wondering if I was giving off 'old lady' vibes.

Possible indications:

I occasionally glance in a shop mirror and wonder why my mum is there dressed in my clothes.
My pubic hair is disappearing, and seems to be making it's way to my chin
Last week I bought 3 lovely geraniums
Last year I bought and planted a hydrangea in my garden
After a couple of tiny accidents, am wondering if I should buy some tena lady knickers.
Caught myself wondering if I should crochet a bed jacket ...it can be chilly in bed whilst reading a book!
Am having actual conversations with my cat
My box room is stuffed with wool ' just in case'
This morning, completely out of the blue found myself singing the song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and I CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD.
Jumped - in my motor-car - and bought 3 more geraniums

Indications I am not old:

Ermm, I am young in my head!

I am not being unreasonable, you are in your prime!
I am unreasonable. You are heading into old biddy territory!

Not any more, took my works pension early so I could look after my mum. She has since died so I am pursuing my 'old lady'hobbies now!

90+ is getting on a bit, 60+ is just a babe in arms. I’m wondering if some of the you are elderly comments are made by someone half your age OP, or people of your age who genuinely think they are old.

I’ve no idea how or when my face began to look like this, but in my head I still wanna shag that security guard in town 🤭

WOW what massive gaslighting FIBBER the OP is. 😦 She said 63 here and 64 on another thread! SHOCKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😂

LMFAO! 😆

Newfortoday · 27/04/2024 15:40

I am 74 and I would have been shocked too! I never think of myself as 'an old lady' except when I need a seat on a bus!

😄 I think you missed the point of that.

I myself thought it was funny - but then I'm old TOO ;)

Edited

'Babe in arms' when you're in your 60s! PMSL! 😆 😂

Come on! 63 isn't really very old, but it's not a babe in arms!!!!!! WTAF? Grin

Tiedietop · 27/04/2024 15:41

I wouldn't worry op I'm in my mid twenties and already have a concerning wool/ unfinished crochet collection and regularly hold full conversation with my cat. I'm only wistfully planning my gardening activities and purchases though as I can't actually get started on it at the moment.
That being said I'm very much looking forward to fully embracing the 'lovely but eccentric old lady' vibe the moment I get the chance.

Haha, I will very shortly be 64. Am mortified that I made a false representation- must be my age!

Well I just turned 53, earlier this year, and have said I am 52 a few times since then. Easily done. It's not like you said you were 70 in a previous thread! It was one year off!

greatvisuals · 27/04/2024 15:44

I feel I am on the cusp.

I bought insurance for the first time ever for a uk music festival.
I have a unstoppable drive to do gardening.
I have become very fond of feeding the garden birds.
I make soups.
I have several pairs of £3 glasses dotted around the house.
We now eat cheeses and crackers at each other houses instead of just the wine.
Farming programmes give me a sense of calm.
I have a blanket on the setter to get under at all times.
I prefer B&B's to hotels.
I sometimes go shopping in my gardening clothes and I don't care.
I'm noticing that more and more people in society are quite clearly younger than me 😆

however,

I haven't bought geraniums yet so I think I'm safe for a couple more years.

Your post is so funny OP. 😁

Nothing wrong with a geranium!

There is - geraniums absolutely stink.

Don't be ridiculous!

No one is going to shave off just one year if they think their age is "old".

Newfortoday · 27/04/2024 15:46

By the way - what's a geranium? Is it something old ladies knit or crochet?

SabreIsMyFave · 27/04/2024 15:47

Like with the talking to the cat thing, I have also loved flowers - (including geraniums!) since we got a house with a decent sized garden. I was only in my 20s then. I don't think liking flowers is an old person thing is it? Confused

Deipara · 27/04/2024 15:47

I think yabu, it's fair enough to describe a 63 year old as old! I say this as a 38 year old! What's wrong with being old anyway?! Alot of people aren't lucky enough to make it that far!

over50andfab · 27/04/2024 15:48

fluffiphlox · 27/04/2024 15:31

I’m in my 60s and consider myself old-er, definitely not old or elderly.

Me too. It’s just a number rather than a state of mind - my exH regarded himself as old when we got married - he was mid 30s at the time

It's a rocket ship that NASA use. 🙄

Chill..........

Hedonism · 27/04/2024 15:49

I get my geraniums for free from the local park when they change the seasonal bedding, but I am currently feeling sad that the hydrangea that I bought last year appears not to have survived the winter.

I am 45.

AnxiousRabbit · 27/04/2024 15:49

I am gonna by honest.....20-30yrs ago 63 WAS definitely old.
My Nanna had a short grey perm, and would have been described as an OAP at 60

Lol, I am writing this in my dressing gown lying in bed. I promise I am "chill" 😂

She's got to the age where there's a statistical margin of error when you try to remember how old you are. I have this and I'm 48 (I think ☺️).

Yes but OP you have missed the crucial bit - apparently you're also "nice"! Which is, well, lovely and promising for neighbourly relations - but a bit anodyne. Maybe in the next few months you need to make clear that there's more to you than nice (and old 🤣)

Your post was funny but also spoke to me on a meaningful level because I'm feeling a bit conscious of getting older. I always had people who found me vital and attractive (in my own way - an acquired taste but alluring to a certain minority, which was A-OK by me). Now I'm wondering if I was more reliant on that social approval than I realised?? What am I now? I've never been super hot but I liked my little hot corner?
