Young neighbours have just moved in next door. This morning (wasn't eavesdropping, honest) heard a relative ask if they had met any of their neighbours, oh yes they replied...there is a nice old woman next door. Old? I'M ONLY 63!!

This got me wondering if I was giving off 'old lady' vibes.

Possible indications:

I occasionally glance in a shop mirror and wonder why my mum is there dressed in my clothes.
My pubic hair is disappearing, and seems to be making it's way to my chin
Last week I bought 3 lovely geraniums
Last year I bought and planted a hydrangea in my garden
After a couple of tiny accidents, am wondering if I should buy some tena lady knickers.
Caught myself wondering if I should crochet a bed jacket ...it can be chilly in bed whilst reading a book!
Am having actual conversations with my cat
My box room is stuffed with wool ' just in case'
This morning, completely out of the blue found myself singing the song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and I CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD.
Jumped - in my motor-car - and bought 3 more geraniums

Indications I am not old:

Ermm, I am young in my head!

I am not being unreasonable, you are in your prime!
I am unreasonable. You are heading into old biddy territory!

I’m 34 and crochet, garden, talk to myself (would to my cat if I had one!), and piss myself on the reg (cheers DC1!)

Is talking to your cat an 'older person' thing? I have always done this. And we (me and DH and the kids) have had cats since I was around 32/33.

Same with our dogs (that we had when I was a kid!) Always talked to them. 😬 They were good listeners!😆

Not like the cats who always have that 'FUXAKE!' look on their face! 😂

Actually you're right I used to talk to my Corgi when I was a little girl and carried on with all my animals ever since 😂

DaisyHaites · 27/04/2024 15:23

I’d say 60s and 70s are old lady territory. 80+ I’d say is elderly.

Could be worse- I arrived at a client's house for a repeat call and heard her child yell "Mum! It's that man again!"

Note - despite my username, I am female. But grey haired

🤣🤣🤣

Walking out of a Take That concert few nights ago so la huge crowd of women all in their 40/50/60s plus a few younger ones with their mums and a few lads late teens coming out of a pub got caught up in the Take That crowd and I overheard one of them say let's get out of here we'll need a undertaker in a minute ffs 🤦🏼‍♀️

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 27/04/2024 15:26

Geraniums are not ageing. Begonias now….and as for aspidistra 🦖

SoftPuppyBlanket · 27/04/2024 15:26

Yes, you are old! Let's face it, most 'young' people are not stocking up on wool and buying geraniums for shits and giggles 🤣
I will say though your post was funny! Definitely not lost your sense of humour no matter how advanced in years you may be!!

You’re not old. It’s just they let babies live alone these days 😂😂

😂😂😂

Balloonhearts · 27/04/2024 15:30

Shouldn't they be at school?

ThePoshUns · 27/04/2024 15:30

Im not sure the new neighbours saw your public hair or lack of!

Regardless of how you feel, 63 is old though, isn't it?
It's not elderly. But it is old. It's certainly not young.

Yeah this. ^

And this too. Mid 60s is quite old to be fair. But deep down once we hit our mid 20s, I think a lot of people stick there (in their head.) So they never feel 'old.' Objectively though, 63 is a little bit old.

fluffiphlox · 27/04/2024 15:31

I’m in my 60s and consider myself old-er, definitely not old or elderly.

Someone offered me his seat on the tube this morning.

I was rarely offered this when I was pregnant!

I'm 59. What's going on?

VeryQuaintIrene · 27/04/2024 15:34

Late middle age surely?

bluetopazlove · 27/04/2024 15:35

You called them 'young' neighbours so there's your answer you see yourself as an old biddy and them young .

Geraniums 😂😂

Make sure you regale her with stories of creaky knees, hips and 'the good old days!

I'm in my mid 30's and when we moved in I described my neighbour as a 'kindly old gent', before discovering he's only 57. 😅 In my defence he's had a hard life

I’m 23 and would call you an old lady. My neighbour is late 50s early 60s age group and I describe him as an older man 😂

Yep 63 is NOT middle aged. 😂 It is almost a pensioner, and actually only 2 years off being officially elderly. (Though I think 'elderly' should be re-classified as 70 now, not 65, as many people are still working at 65!)
