A bit of a strange one, any helpful advice?
My lovely wonderful🙄neighbours have told traders/couple other neighbours that we are nosey. We know as we are good friends with the other neighbours😆 who said that they said that they do not like it when we open/close our windows if they are in their garden and think we are standing looking out at them, I mean that kind of explains the death looks we get whenever we happen to open or close our window but we do not wait until they are outside before we open them and why would we want to stand there and stare at them, we have a life!? But they have used this as an excuse to put up a huge frame thing covered in bright blue sheeting right up against our fence and its over 8 feet. We can obviously see this from our windows when we walk into a room, so much so that we leave the blinds half closed in our kitchen and one side of the curtains closed in the bedroom nearest to their side (we are semi detached).

A friend recently came round and asked why it was there and then said we should get some massive googly eyes and put them on our shed so that neighbours can see them and birds on sticks so they move in the wind just above their frame thing ....... The child in me is tempted ........but what does anyone on here think?

I’d put something up 9 feet to cover it 😂

Lampslights · 27/04/2024 11:54

Well we don’t know if you are or not, but that’s their perception, so they must have seen you often enough having a nose to make them feel this way.

ThisIsMyRubbishUsername · 27/04/2024 11:59

The fact you are considering being that petty does indicate you might be the problem here. And noticing their ‘death stares’ when you open your windows does suggest you are looking at them. How do you know they are telling tradespeople you are nosey? I can understand you knowing about them telling your neighbour friends, but the tradespeople? Maybe you are accidently nosey, if not actively.

Maybe, but do you open your windows with your eyes closed? We now literally grab the handle, shove window open or close and go. This is just another thing added to a list of thing that they find annoying, for example the leaves from the trees at the back of our house (not our trees), visitors parking outside their house - they have a drive (its a public road and we make sure our visitors either park on our drive or up in a layby if its free so they go out and tell people to move no matter who it is), rats in their garden are someone elses fault. I could go on .....

Well no of course I don’t. You’re not really coming across well. Which makes me also think like the pp you could be the problem here.

It’s a bit of a strange coincidence that you need to open your windows when they choose to use their garden. Personally I open my windows once a day or if I’m cooking and I wouldn’t have a clue if my neighbours are outside at the time or not because I’m not looking for them.

loudbatperson · 27/04/2024 12:11

I would say I open and close windows by literally grabbing handle, opening/closing and then go all the time. I don't stand there while I do it.

If you had a habit of standing around after opening it, I can see why they felt overlooked and wanted to create privacy.

Yes we're the problem - for context the "death stares" are not just when we open the windows they are whenever we leave the house and they happen to see us. We know they are telling the tradespeople as we have the same ones come to clean our windows and they told us

Yes of course we are the problem. For clarity, which I forgot to put on my original post, we have window film on the bottom half of our windows, a bit like a privacy film, we decided we wanted that instead of nets so we cannot actually stand and stare out our windows in the first place!

I don't deliberately choose to open my windows when they are in their garden. It is just coincidental the few times it has happened. I normally have the windows open early but I close them when I go out for security and then re-open when I am back in and that is the coincidental bit if they are in their garden

I open the window wide

Your neighbours are nuts. Window are for looking out of! Unless you're standing there gawping and pointing, it's ridiculous that they are gossiping to the neighbourhood and trades like they are. That's shitty behaviour.

I'm fascinated to know what this blue sheet thingy is – what are they actually doing in their garden that they need to shield? Is it a dreaded sex pond?

Bearbookagainandagain · 27/04/2024 13:49

I don't understand why you are having such a hard time on here. I open or close my windows at all time of the day, I didn't realise I should stick to a schedule so my neighbours could use their garden!

Anyhow, your neighbours would absolutely hate us, the kids spend ages looking at the windows and commenting on what they can see in the neighbours gardens 😂

Jentefieldroamer · 27/04/2024 13:49

What's the point of having windows if you can't look out of them? Some people have special window seats for this reason. I think they're nuts!

Oh I hate this. Open my window happen to stop new neighbour who then shoots a look like I’m not allowed to look out side while pairing socks. Out gardens are no every near small they just always appear to be in the corner but that’s Birds Eye if my bedroom window.

I meant I open my window and curtains and happen to spot new neighbour….

our gardens are no where near small.

MikeRafone · 27/04/2024 13:58

Id write them a note

Dear Neighbours

It has been brought to our attention by others that you think we are nosey and thus the hideous blue erection. I can assure you we open and close our curtains and windows. regardless of whether you are in the garden or not. After a few "what we perceived to be" death stares, we keep our curtains and windows half open so we can't see your side and try not to ope the windows.

Can you please take down the blue erection as it is not compiling with the law of 6ft fencing or hedging, we will allow 14 days for this to happen and hopefully we can then return to living peacefully beside one another.

Jentefieldroamer · 27/04/2024 13:59

It's relaxing

Icepop79 · 27/04/2024 13:59

Really not sure why you’re getting a hard time on here. Your neighbours sound bonkers. Even if they thought you were nosey, why are they telling random tradespeople about it?

Does this weird barrier they’ve put up obstruct light into your house? If so, my understanding is that you can complain about it (but I could be wrong).

If I were you I would try and go about your business as normal…although I would be very tempted to pointedly stare at them any time I saw them.

TheShellBeach · 27/04/2024 14:04

I agree that your neighbours sound batshit.

MonsteraMama · 27/04/2024 14:11

Oh my god you've got the obtuse contrarians who will find any possible way for the OP to be in the wrong no matter what. Usually takes them a bit longer to swarm a thread with their nonsense.

Yes your neighbours sound bat shit and paranoid.

NorfolkEnchantsIsThere · 27/04/2024 14:20

Well this thread is insane!

OP YANBU fgs, they sound like they think very highly of themselves and that everything you do simply must be because of them.
