70s bush envy

Sparklybutold · 24/04/2024 11:34

Is it just me or does anyone else have bush envy? Yes I mean pubic hair bush. I swear I have alopecia down there. I would love a big soft bush. Apparently you can get a bush wig which I'd seriously consider.

(Dear Aston University - stick that in your pipe)

Always had a full bush, hairy pits and hairy legs. Most partners (all but one) didn’t care, but then I probably wouldn’t have dated those who did. I also have strong eyebrows and a tendency towards a moustache so I think it would be obvious that if I don’t shave the upper beard, I certainly don’t shave the lower. I think it’s time we all started reclaiming our body hair and ditched the razors. Im very proud my daughter (20s) feels the same way.

Anyone who gives a shit about someone else’s body hair isn’t worth the bother!

LauderSyme · 24/04/2024 14:23

This thread makes me think of growlers.

"You know those big welcome mats you might see on a girl in the seventies" according to Top Gear.

Such a luxuriant wealth of sexist language out there.

ijustneedtokeepbreathing · 24/04/2024 14:28

Taking care of yourself has nothing whatsoever to do with whether you do or don't remove your pubic hair.

Personally, I tidy it up round the edges but other than that I leave it be. Waxing is too expensive, time consuming and painful. I choose to spend that money elsewhere.

I don't see how anyone would end up with a mouthful of pubes, unless that is what they wanted . . . .

Having a bush is sexy and cool.

I understand people liking the bare look (although personally I think it’s grim and pretty lame/outdated too). But surely the stubble on the in-between days? It’s so itchy and ugly. Who wants stubble and ingrown hairs on their fanny. A poster above said they let it get to 5mm before shaving. Surely that looks and feels minging. A nice soft bush is more aesthetically pleasing and feminine.

RE: “mouthful of pubes” comments - sorry but you’re putting your mouth on the wrong bit if this is happening.

I said it.
I use clippers or wax, I don't shave so theres no stubble or itching.
It feels short and tidy - don't really give a shit how it looks because I do it for my comfort, and I'm not remotely interested in looking feminine.

Nope I think it’s vile, just my opinion but I personally like to be hair free, that goes for my DH as well, no one wants a mouth full of pubes 🤢

How can it be vile? It's natural, it's a hell of a lot better for your skin than constantly shaving, and it's very easy to keep clean.

I find men who demand a pre-pubescent look really quite disturbing.

Wellhellooooodear · 24/04/2024 13:53

For the love of God will people stop equating removing public hair with looking like a child. A woman with a waxed fanny looks like a woman with a waxed fanny, not a child!

I agree.

And I'm saying this as someone currently sporting a 70s bush.

Wellhellooooodear · 24/04/2024 14:33

thepastinsidethepresent · 24/04/2024 13:56

Last time I checked, people were allowed their own perceptions...

Yeah of course you are allowed your disgusting opinion, please crack on.

Yeah I'd so much rather be with a guy who likes the prepubescent look/Barbie.

Innerchildfrustration · 24/04/2024 14:35

Perhaps it’s an age thing I’ve definitely suffered hair loss down there especially on the mons pubis. I’m still sufficiently bushy though.

ScubaDivingSpiderMonkey · 24/04/2024 14:33

Me too! However one chooses to style their pubes is up to them but having none doesn't make someone look like a child!

Lassiata · 24/04/2024 14:35

I mean actually I don't give a shit what you do with your body, but you're straight in there with vile.

theduchessofspork · 24/04/2024 14:36

Are you menopausal?

Most old ladies are bald as coots down there so it does start to thin out in midlife for many.

theduchessofspork · 24/04/2024 14:40

OhmygodDont · 24/04/2024 13:41

I shaved the lot off as a child during my first period. I’d never watched porn nor had sex for it to be anything other than a personal want. Maybe a minority I’ll agree but the last reason on my mind was to look sexy or something as such as my Tom boy self in trackies 😂

That does sound like someone not wanting to go into womanhood. Do you think that’s what it was?

Desecratedcoconut · 24/04/2024 14:41

I get the feeling this thread has single handedly inflated the number of times the word coot has been used in 2024.

Anonymous2025 · 24/04/2024 14:41

I have always waxed ,born early 80s , waxed since I was 14 , I prefer it that way .

DeliciouslyDecadent · 24/04/2024 14:42

You both prefer the "goose-flesh, plucked chicken with stubble" feel ,then?

or maybe you're both wanting to look like porn stars?@Muddywalks34

Borgonzola · 24/04/2024 14:43

Imagine finding your own natural pubic situation 'grim'

horseyhorsey17 · 24/04/2024 14:44

Is it still the thing to have a bald fanny? I am just getting back into the dating game after years of marriage and have yet to get naked in front of a man but would hope he wouldn't recoil in horror at finding himself in the presence of pubes? I really hate the whole naked look/feel/itchiness and I think I'd rather be single forever than have to go the full Hollywood.

LordPercyPercy · 24/04/2024 14:46

Nope. It’s just grim. Taking care of yourself is important.

Grow up.

Verv · 24/04/2024 14:48

LadySugar · 24/04/2024 13:29

It's offensive and infantilising to women who remove body hair for reasons entirely unrelated to the male gaze.

Sorry but it's true. Waxing may develop as a preference but part of it stems from societal standards 100%.

It's not a big deal, lots of things we do are influenced by what others like. Long hair, being curvy, long eyelashes/extensions, flattering clothes whatever. Why would this be any different? It doesn't mean you're some bimbo, it's called living in a society/culture.

Sorry, but it's not true.
I started removing pubic hair as soon as it started growing, which was when I was around 13 years old.
That would be 1990 - long before internet porn was prolific, and at the time I hadn't seen any porn anyway.
I'm also gay so don't give a tiny hoot over how society wants me to look if I want to attract a bloke.

The sensation of it drives me round the bend. I dont like it. I dont like the texture, I dont like the valance, I dont like the sensation of hair on my labia. I can feel it all the time when it's too long and its like nails down a blackboard. I find pubic hair physically uncomfortable.
Conversely, I don't shave my armpits because they are a different texture and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I have this conversation so many times and people are always like "Oh you're still affected by societal expectations regarding your pubes" and I feel like saying I wear jeans, hoodies, sneakers, ive got short hair, i've got short nails, I dont wear makeup, I dont shave my pits, I dont fuck men and i'm built like a bloody quarterback.

Why would I reject femininity in every single element of my life but make an exception for my fanny?

itsjustbiology · 24/04/2024 14:50

Big up the bushes and bush lovers I say!

OhmygodDont · 24/04/2024 14:50

theduchessofspork · 24/04/2024 14:40

Nah it was frankly like a slaughter house. I used to have terrible periods till I started the pill, so it was heavy and clotty and lasted over a week. It was just easier and personally cleaner without getting clotty pubes basically. I think got to like day four or five before I had at them so to speak.

HairyToity · 24/04/2024 14:52

I have a bush. I consider it healthier. DH doesn't mind my bush. He has one too, and I prefer it that way. Anything else is a pre pubescent child.

Copied and pasted from google:

The purpose of pubic hair is to protect us, just like the hair around your ears, nose, and eyes. It keeps the skin of your vulva warm and moisturized. It protects the delicate skin from friction during sexual activity. It keeps dust, dirt, and germs away from the vagina to prevent infection

DeliciouslyDecadent · 24/04/2024 14:52

I come from a generation where our mothers were forcibly and routinely shaved before giving birth- nurses approached with a rusty blunt razor.

It was supposed to make everything more hygienic - this has now been disproved and hair is protective from bugs. Another take on this is it was to de-sexualise women when in front of male doctors during delivery.

Certainly, no women shaved when I was a teen and if they had would have been considered weird.

It really is a fashion partly because of the porn that's readily available and that ' so they can get close up camera shots of hairless vulvas to titillate men.
