70s bush envy

Sparklybutold · 24/04/2024 11:34

Is it just me or does anyone else have bush envy? Yes I mean pubic hair bush. I swear I have alopecia down there. I would love a big soft bush. Apparently you can get a bush wig which I'd seriously consider.

(Dear Aston University - stick that in your pipe)

Exactly, @ArseInTheCoOpWindow .
That someone actually came on here and described a natural part of a woman's body as "grim" is very depressing.

CheerUpFFS · 24/04/2024 18:39

Who cares if I am? That's my point, only my dh is going to see and know and I don't want pubes regardless of where I've got that message from. Unsure why the opposing side always want to tell women what to do with their bodies.

I’m certainly not telling any woman what to do with her body. Just wanted to point out that it sounds likely you have absorbed some cultural messages about body hair. And you seem to be acknowledging that that is possibly the case so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Epilating is even easier than waxing as you can do it when it's super short. For me it's as much a part of a routine now as brushing my teeth I love it!

You actually love it? I mean that says a LOT about the quality of your life if all you have to look forward to is razing your peep fur to nothing!!!! I mean this kindly, maybe it’s time to ummm get out a bit more?? Look outwards and upwards even…

EveSix · 24/04/2024 18:43

I do think it's disingenuous to suggest that one is impervious to cultural messages conveying society's apparent preference for hairless female bodies. It permeates all of popular culture. The 'test' for this is the visceral shame associated with being categorised as 'hairy': the euphemisms women use to describe their own natural hair-growth -we're fuzzy, hirsute, unkempt, 'like a gorilla', 'woolly mammoths' etc, the need to qualify our natural state say it all.
I've been both, and when I have been bald, the decision has invariably been informed by societal perception of women's pubic hair as less clean or sexual attractive than the absence thereof.

How bitchy😂

Scoobyblue · 24/04/2024 18:44

Any woman should do what they want with their body. I was told as a teenager that it was better to have pubic hair as it prevented infections and was generally healthier for "down there" so I've never shaved or waxed. I've never been uncomfortable or smelly and no man has ever commented one way or the other. But live and let live I say.

CherryCoaster · 24/04/2024 18:46

Bushy and proud 🌳

Polishedshoesalways · 24/04/2024 18:47

It’s a toxic message really.

You are not good enough as you are.

It’s not a message I will ever sign up to. Or my dds. Our bodies are incredible just as they are thanks -get that hot wax away from me, take your sharp razors and misogynistic pornography elsewhere.

I am just being honest!
If that is the extent of the excitement on offer - ripping out hair at the root from tender places, well that is pretty shit isn’t it?

’I love it’ seems really sad to me!

HeraSyndulla · 24/04/2024 18:52

Nope, not a fan of the full growler, prefer to keep my lady garden neat and trimmed.

Sparklybutold · 24/04/2024 18:57

I've been at work all afternoon, so am now going through my bush thread as I have a cuppa 😁

It would be interesting to know the age group of those expressing an opinion. Eg Younger going for none or shorter vs older sticking with what your god gave you, apart from a bit of gardening.

Theunamedcat · 24/04/2024 19:02

I shaved it once and didn't like it stayed natural ever since

crostini · 24/04/2024 19:07

A shaved vagina does NOT resemble a child's vagina ffs, stop saying that.

If you want hair, have hair, if you don't, remove it. I can't for the life of me figure out why women are so judgy both ways over this!

If you are shaving your vagina, I’d be astonished!

lifeinthelastlane · 24/04/2024 17:48

You would genuinely stop having sex with a woman if she revealed this during the act?
I find that hard to believe

No, because that would be rude and offensive.

Why does it make you uncomfortable?

99% of fully developed women have natural hair - children do not - of course the comparison will be made.

crostini · 24/04/2024 19:12

@Pingtotheeastwoodly but you knew what I meant didn't you Hmm

The bast majority of women use vagina to refer to the whole shebang so no need to be anal about it Wink

Sparklybutold · 24/04/2024 19:12

theduchessofspork · 24/04/2024 14:36

Are you menopausal?

Most old ladies are bald as coots down there so it does start to thin out in midlife for many.

According to the doc - now.

According to me - likely.

I have always been pretty bald down there. Waxed bikini area teens and early 20s, then it just stopped growing back.

But you are absorbing culture. Because no one did it 25 years ago, as getting rid of pubes didn’t exist.

Its a new culture which you’ve absorbed.

I love listening to my 17 year old telling me that no woman should feel the need to shave as it’s a feminist issue.

I agree that it is.

Women have been removing public hair since 300BC.
The ancient Egyptians invented the sugar wax.
It was popular in the 18th and 19th century and had a resurgence when the bikini was invented in the mid 40s.
It was depularised in the 60s 70s and came back in the 80s.

Its been in and out more times than a cat flap but it certainly is not new culture.

crostini · 24/04/2024 19:14

@Polishedshoesalways no 99% of adult females do not have full bushes. How would you even know that?

An adult vagina is an adult vagina, hairless or otherwise.

newyorkhotel · 24/04/2024 19:14

Do what YOU want- have a full bush or get rid of it. Its a personal decision.

Having hair there is not gross or not taking care of yourself

Not having hair there is not trying to look like a child fgs (if a man can only tell the age of a woman by her pubic hair, I'd be extremely worried about him)

I dont know why people get so upset and angry about other people's grooming habits. Good grief.

The ancient Egyptians did a lot of rather questionable things- we shouldn’t be just blindly follow unconsciously! It was a patriarchal society and women had very little influence.

I hope we are somewhat raising the bar by now.

LadySugar · 24/04/2024 19:17

@Polishedshoesalways yeah I have to agree, I completely shaved smooth and just thought no. Pubic hair, whether thinning, sparse or bush is more womanly imo

OhmygodDont · 24/04/2024 19:17

Unless someone expects you to touch their vagina it really shouldn’t matter to you personally how it looks.
