I genuinely tried so hard to watch this but I am physically unable to. It is absolutely unbelievable.

It is horrifying and heartbreaking that animals are going through this in order for humans to be able to eat meat, eggs and dairy.

To anyone who eats these things, this is where it comes from.

One question....when the whole world goes vegan...what happens to all the sheep, pigs, chickens, cows? No one is going to keep animals like this.

plus what about dogs, cats, hamsters etc...they are being kept for human pleasure...so will keeping a dog be banned.

also if we can't kill head lice, what about alcohol? It's made by yeast which is a living organism?

Sorry but these things go through my mind at 3 in the morning

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/04/2024 08:56

Preachy vegans turn people off with their all or nothing approach

Especially when they insist others have "no moral compass" Hmm

I wouldn't mind so much, but while I've every respect for genuinely committed vegans, with too many it's just the current fad anyway - and IME it's this second group who do most of the preaching, while the former just get on with it quietly

We're all free to make our own choices, and why some can't simply leave it at that defeats me

Yes, and cats are obligate carnivores. They cannot live on vegetables.

Makes you wonder if the "herbivore good, carnivore bad" notion would be spread to include other species, and the "no killing any animals" mantra only apply to approved species.

Urgh, more preachy vegans.

I could quite happily be pescetarian, vegetarian more of a challenge as I don't eat cheese because of the saturated fats. Would never ever consider an entirely vegan diet.

Preachy vegans turn people off with their all or nothing approach. For the sake of the planet, something like one or two meat-free days a week is achievable for most people and realistic. Demanding people who have eaten an omnivorous diet for 30 or 40 years suddenly given up all meat, dairy and eggs is hugely unrealistic and preachy.

I actually hate the all or nothing approach. I’ve seen people on here berated for calling themselves vegetarian because they have a bacon sarnie twice a year for a hangover treat.

it’s taken quite a lot of work to convince family and friends I don’t eat meat. I used to be invited for dinner to be presented with lamb casserole and expected to eat it, because “it’s really nice”, or told to just pick the meat out. If I occasionally ate meat I’d be expected to eat meat on all social occasions, as in their eyes I wouldn’t be veggie.

i had a friend in uni (when I was still a meat eater) who was strict veggie, but would occasionally go for a chicken curry as that was her “thing” that she missed, and after a few drinks she’d cave. I could never see that as an issue, and was quite happy to go to veggie restaurants or cook veggie meals the rest of the time.

if people want to eat veggie or vegan then they should, and people should butt out with the “but you’re not veggie/vegan” judgement.

Is this vegan propaganda again?

The fact that the OP did a "fire and forget" on this suggests it is.

I agree completely, providing they don't harangue and inconvenience others with their own free choices

As said they're fully entitled to those and frankly they're noone else's business, but people will naturally have a view if they've been put to a lot of trouble by one of the noisy variety, only to see the goalposts change at whim

They might even think those choices are bordering on attention seeking, and with some they may have a point

Vegetus · 24/04/2024 04:46

What? like vegetables?

Vegetables count as normal food when included with meat and/or dairy to make a proper meal.

A meal that consists only of vegan shite, or weird purple "meat" is vegan shite.

I can think of one exception to the vegan shite rule though.

I had a very nice meal of falafels, salad and humous in a café once, which I believe would meet the criteria for vegan shite. Indeed, it was marked on the menu as suitable for vegans. Delicious as it was, I wouldn't want to eat it for every meal.

The egg custard tart I had for pudding was delicious too and definitely didn't qualify as vegan shite.

Once we decide that we will no longer use/keep any animals for our pleasure or convenience, without their consent, the only animals that might be left are the ones who fend for themselves and find their own food: us!

BobbyBiscuits · 24/04/2024 10:30

I was made to watch whale flencing and seal clubbing videos, and films about fur farms and vivisection labs when I was 6 years old in primary school in the 80s.
They still served mystery meat for school dinners every day!? (Which I didn't eat)
I'm not going to watch this vid. Due to my health problems I find it really hard to get enough protein unless I eat some animal products. I also like the taste of good quality meat. So I'm not going to be made to feel nauseous over it.

You can choose whatever balance of food you prefer, but if you do eat meat at all, you are not a vegetarian. This isn't a value judgment; just an accurate statement of fact.

Hugh Hefner was obviously not in any way whatsoever faithful to his wives, but that doesn't mean that a married man who 'only' has a very occasional one-night stand IS faithful.

The whole point of being an omnivore is that you CAN/WILL consider eating any foods - including meat - but you still have complete agency over what you DO eat. If 99% of your food intake is meat, you're an omnivore. If 50% of your food intake is meat, you're an omnivore. If 1% of your food intake is meat, you're an omnivore.

There's also nothing at all stopping you from choosing/requesting a vegetarian option when eating out or being catered for, if that's a simple way of communicating and getting your preference; but that doesn't make you a vegetarian - any more than my choosing to speak German on a very regular basis would make me into an actual German. Again, not that there's anything remotely wrong with being a German or with not being a German; it's just that the word has a specific accepted meaning that either applies or it doesn't.

Well, no - the presence of egg (unless it was a substitute) obviously precludes it from being either 'vegan shite' OR delicious vegan fare.

Chunkycookie · 24/04/2024 10:46

I grew up on a farm, surrounded by other farms.

My diet is 90% carnivore.

If other people don’t want to eat meat, don’t agree with farming practices, that’s up to them.

I don’t like being preached at though.

Honestly, I’ve started taking my youngest to a home ed group recently. A lot of the other parents seem to be vegan.

At this group, you bring lunch. my diet consists of mainly meat. My dd also loves meat.

A couple of them have tried to lecture me over the last couple of month and I have always shut the conversation down politely.

Yesterday I snapped and asked them why they kept commenting on what me and my children eat, and why it mattered so much to them?

I got the animal welfare answer. I said, “I don’t give a shit.”

I don’t think they will be speaking to me again. I hate being harassed over food choices. I honestly don’t care what anyone else on this Earth eats. I only care about myself and my children.

Yes.

I’m talking about people who when you say you’d like a vegetarian option, insist that because you had a chicken curry on a night out 3 months ago, you aren’t veggie so there won’t be a veggie option, it’s lamb casserole
or nothing.

i should be able to state I don’t want meat when asked my dietary preferences when invited to a social occasion. And not be told I don’t have that option because I’m not 100% vegetarian.

Misthios · 24/04/2024 11:21

urgh @Chunkycookie that is absolutely the worst thing about many vegans, the need to evangelise and convert and "educate" people into their way of thinking. Vegetarians in my experience don't behave like this at all.

The old trope of "how do you know someone is a vegan? They'll tell you" is a trope because it is based in fact. It is none of anyone's business what I eat or what anyone else eats. I don't go around preaching to vegans about how they should be eating cheese or eggs or fish - is it too much to expect a bit of common courtesy from them in return?

Thing is, I’m also coeliac and have a soy allergy. So I’ve got enough to contend with anyway. my diet of meat and a bit of veg, kefir, lentils and nuts is stress free for me, no cross contamination issues, no thinking about gluten, and no need to eat anything processed.

I don’t want to give a rundown on my health to random people, it maddens me when they make faces and comment on my lunch just because it wouldn’t be their personal choice.

Desecratedcoconut · 24/04/2024 11:36

Ooh, off topic, do you know where you can get split red lentils that come without the dreaded may contain warning?

Chunkycookie · 24/04/2024 11:44

@Desecratedcoconut the only think I buy at Waitrose 🤣 no warning.

As I said, it was delicious so obviously proper eggs and none of that substitute vegan shite. I'm pretty sure the pastry contained real butter too...

I didn’t want to be offensive. But some of them can be. It infuriates me.

It’s no surprise, I home educated an older child for a few years, so I had braced myself for it this time. And I am 15 years older now with a much lower bullshit threshold.

I know many home educating families keen on raw milk, backyard eggs, local meat.
