Those silly little women. Apart from the ones with penises. They’re just like us men.

You are massively overthinking that

Exactly

I really don't understand the mentality that thinks it's ok that women (female pople) are expected to suck up being literally undefined as a distinct political and social group as the price we have to pay for defeating the Tories.

Would the same posters demand people ignore racism or anti Semitism for the greater good? Indeed, why isn't it trans identifying people being told to park their needs for now and trust they'll be treated fairly at some unspecified later date? Why is it just women being told there are more important things to worry about than their political and social rights so just shut up and submit?

I see it as the opposite. Some Gender Critical women who think they are more enlightened or better women than others because they couldn’t possibly vote for a party like Labour, who is slightly more relaxed on trans issues. Yet I feel they look at this issue in isolation, and fail to consider all the other aspects of Tory policy that are killing women.
E.g - Men in women’s prisons = terrible outcome. But that woman may never had been there had she had a decent education, support for her parents, mental health support, financial support, interventions, rehab etc. all things the Tory’s are stripping away. Policy cannot be looked at in isolation.

Not to play the class card (and not saying you are) but I do think in general, it’s easier for those in a middle class bubble to think the trans issue is the biggest one for women. When actually, for women like me, it feels totally insane to think this is the biggest issue for women in politics right now when austerity is literally killing women in this country at a far higher rate than trans people.

The GC lot are all about safe guarding children. I don't see much safe guarding about children in poverty though.

I am as gender critical as they come - I work in children's services and really welcome the balanced, evidence based findings of the Cass report BUT I am not so 'single issue' that I don't see the wider damage caused to women and children by this Gov. Women in the Labour Party have been fighting for years and will continue to fight, on issues that impact them - debate is allowed and views are changing - but to vote against the party most likely to improve the lives of women and children because of one single issue is so damaging it almost negates the argument

StaunchMomma · 19/04/2024 22:21

I've seen a thousand different versions of this meme of late so no need to pin this on Labour, specifically.

You're reaching so hard to take offence here, I think.

But the other issues are mostly ignored by the GC on MN. I do get the safe guarding of children in the Cass report, but as far as I can see on MN all the other issues women and children face are never ever mentioned. It's like the trans issue is the only thing that matters to them.

Nope-there absolutely is - because they chose this meme and changed the wording - it wasn't just an 'oppsy' retweet - so they DO need to acknowledge it's sexist and remove it - I say this as a life long member - we don't have to accept or defend everything because we are Team Labour - we are allowed to face palm at this backfire

skippy67 · 19/04/2024 22:53

Are you under the impression that we only know Labour are a misogynist party because the Tories told us?

Are you under the impression that the Tories are are not demonstrably proven liars? They've shielded sex offenders in their midst. They've misused party funds. They've accepted millions of pounds from racist doners. These are facts. Plenty more where they came from too. But yeah, crack on and vote for them because you feel Labour are misogynist.

Fucking hell. Here's the lazy thinking again that if we're not voting Labour we're going to vote Tory. Change the bloody record, will you? It's not either / or. We can choose to vote for neither of them.

And I'll count down to the vote scolding lecture about how not voting for Labour is essentially a vote for the Tories. Labour are not owed my vote. If they want it, they have to earn it. Do you lecture other people who choose to vote a different way over any other issue that's important to them?

BuyOrBake · 19/04/2024 23:10

I don't care if it's well-known, it's still wildly inappropriate!

Does nobody in the Labour Party think things through?

It's now been deleted.

Greywhippet · 19/04/2024 23:12

maybe they used a sexist meme so that no one would notice how lame and unambitious their housing policies are

Nubbled · 19/04/2024 23:13

I will never vote for a party who says
women can have a penis

TheValueOfEverything · 19/04/2024 23:14

Over thinking it. Yes no ideal but it’s one of hundreds pumped out by social media officers creating ads.

Don’t damn the whole campaign because of one social media content editor whose job is to be edgy and attention grabbing but who applied bad judgement, and their supervisor who signed it off.

'The GC'?! Gender critical women are not an homogeneous mass you know, or a hive mind. We're all individuals who probably disagree on as many things as we agree. It's best you don't say we all think and act the same.

Plus, it's women's sex-based rights we're fighting for. It's not a 'trans issue'. That minimises what's at stake. It's the usual ploy from those people on the left who don't want it talked about too much in case it actually does have an effect on people's votes.

Medschoolmum · 19/04/2024 23:17

I'm more worried about the Tory party's track record of shitting on women for 14 years than I am about one fairly crap Labour Party meme.

You don't seem to start quite so many threads about this, though, OP. Why is that? Do you think women are in a better position now than they were 14 years ago?

For all of the fearmongering about Labour, I'm yet to hear anyone tell me how the last 14 years have been better for women. Please do come and enlighten me.

From what I read on MN you are a hive mind. An echo chamber with only one issue you give a fuck about.

First of all, have you ever considered maybe calming down a bit? Secondly, I wasn't lecturing anyone. It's a discussion forum. So I'm discussing.

That is not true.

I am very firmly gender critical and I believe that single sex spaces for women are important, but I would never vote on that one issue alone. And I don't think that the Tories give a shit about women in any case.

AspiringChatBot · 19/04/2024 23:21

The image of the man and his thoughts, indicating that he might find a home in UK Labour at the upcoming election, is absolutely fine. The addition of the woman saying something private and irrelevant to the election and juxtaposing it to the man's political comment is sexist and misogynist and (perhaps most importantly when we consider why it was published as part of a Labour election campaign - why someone and likely multiple someones at Labour HQ reviewed this and did not raise a concern) it's also gratuitous.

To those saying it’s just the labour party’s way of appealing to a younger audience, then why are they posting it on Facebook? What young people use Facebook?

Well, quite. And 5 year old memes. It's a bit embarrassing really, very "dad dancing".

Thanks, but I find it more important to provide some balance on the ones started by the Tory propagandists.
