Or does this Labour Party meme display all we need to regarding about how they feel about women?

Those silly little women. Apart from the ones with penises. They’re just like us men.

I don’t care that it’s from a very common meme when the meme is clearly sexist and derogatory towards women. It perpetuates the western cultural stereotype that women are incapable of higher thought and will only think about domestic trivia, children and love affairs.

Exactly. I don’t care whether it’s a popular meme - it’s unbelievably derogatory towards women and it has no place in a political party’s campaigning strategy.

We’re going to reach the point soon where someone adapts a Benny Hill video and we’ll all be expected to find it amusing.

pointythings · 19/04/2024 21:01

That is horribly sexist and whoever put it up needs firing.

But it is by no means a summing up of the Labour party in its entirety, however much you want it to be.

Shetlands · 19/04/2024 21:04

I'm guessing the script was created by a young man - it's regressive and offensive IMO. I'm a Labour member and I don't think it represents what our party should be about. If it's supposed to be targeted at a younger audience then I imagine plenty of young, female potential voters would be insulted.
FAIL.

Labour at least used to pretend they weren't sexist.

That they no longer bother is of major importance to me and should be to all women. They need challenging on this.

SnapdragonToadflax · 19/04/2024 21:04

It's an annoying, sexist meme... but it's just a meme. I've mostly seen it talking about various historical periods and wars.

Political parties post stuff like this to look 'down with the kids'. I wish they wouldn't, but this is no big deal. Blame society for thinking women don't have an inner voice, not Labour.

But Labour USED it! I AM blaming them.

I’ve not decided. I’d like to vote Lib Dem. But it won’t make a difference. Tbh ( and MN will hate this) I’m screwed in the middle. The Labour Party offers nothing for me general and nor do the Tories really. But I’m never ever voting labour. They don’t even need women, they think men can do a better job of being women than women. It’s a firm no from me.

Same.

Oh behave, There was no need to mention 'apart from the ones with penises'

You behave! that's exactly what Labour think women are - men in dresses. Keir has states himself that some women have penises.

It’s not ‘just a meme’ here though is it.

It has been put on their website with sexist misogynistic text, as part of their political propaganda/ campaign.

Along with the rest of the Labour hating women news, I’d say it’s a big problem.

One example attached, there’s worse.

The Labour Party has a woman problem

I know how it feels to be in an abusive relationship

Yeah, yeah. What else have the Tories got though?

Temporaryanonymity · 19/04/2024 21:27

To those saying it’s just the labour party’s way of appealing to a younger audience, then why are they posting it on Facebook? What young people use Facebook?

The Lib Dems, unfortunately, don't know what a woman is either.

pointythings · 19/04/2024 21:29

I've put in an official complaint about that post. If more people do the same instead of just posting on MN, we might get somewhere.

Of course there's always the option of doing both.

The got the Cass report done, which is a start. They've finally got a commitment to stop prescribing puberty blockers to children.

And what else are they doing apart from that? Taking benefits away from women with MH problems? Helping women feed their kids? providing affordable housing? Making the NHS work?

Temporaryanonymity · 19/04/2024 21:40

So have I, @pointythings.

Keeprejoining · 19/04/2024 21:44

It might be a well known meme but that doesn't stop it from being utterly misogynistic and most of its iterations are anti women

skippy67 · 19/04/2024 21:45

This "Labour don't know what a woman is" thing is a massive smokescreen. I can't believe so many on here are falling for it. Story after story detailing more and more Tory sleaze, and corruption, and condoning of racism, but that's OK because the Tories "know what a woman is". I despair, I really do.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/04/2024 21:51

I don't think it's great, tbh. Disappointing.

Pharmacyhelp · 19/04/2024 21:53

I don’t understand anti-Labour shite from the GC brigade on here. Gotta hand it to people though, trying to twist it so Tory’s are the party of the women is pretty impressive. Offensive though to assume other women are too dim to see what class of people have been, and will continue to be, adversely affected by Tory policy. (Note, it’s not the class of people with penis’s)

Are you under the impression that we only know Labour are a misogynist party because the Tories told us?

Labour created this issue for themselves. I didn't need any help from the Tories 5 years ago when I left the Labour Party BECAUSE they don't care about women's issues.

I don't believe any such thing about the Tories - it's not either or for me.

Sunquest · 19/04/2024 21:55

The GC lot are all about safe guarding children. I don't see much safe guarding about children in poverty though.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 19/04/2024 21:56

I really don't understand the mentality that thinks it's ok that women (female pople) are expected to suck up being literally undefined as a distinct political and social group as the price we have to pay for defeating the Tories.

Would the same posters demand people ignore racism or anti Semitism for the greater good? Indeed, why isn't it trans identifying people being told to park their needs for now and trust they'll be treated fairly at some unspecified later date? Why is it just women being told there are more important things to worry about than their political and social rights so just shut up and submit?

Shiveringinthecountry · 19/04/2024 21:57

ButterflyBarista · 19/04/2024 20:01

That is absolutely horrendous. Wow.

Yes women are suspicious harridens with no cogent thoughts, whereas men are thinking sensible creatures.

Unbelievable.

Exactly.
