Is this friend taking the piss?

My friend and I visit each other with our children (5 years old) often, we usually alternate hosting.

No long ago we were at her house and they were talking about this juice they started drinking, which is on the expensive side. She diluted it with water for the 4 of us saying that is because of the sugar content but also to make it last longer.
Fair enough.

DD and I really liked the juice and started buying it. I didn’t want to dilute it for myself so DD asked to try it undiluted and she prefers that way too.

So next time the friend is due to visit, I tell DD that I will dilute the juice for the 4 of us because this is like how they drink it (and I didn’t want to create friction between friend and her DD in case her DD wanted the juice undiluted too.

So they came, and when is snack time DD explains (not my instructions, out of her own accord) that we like the juice undiluted but we will dilute it today because they are visiting.

So friend very quickly say ‘absolutely not’ since it is our house, they can drink it undiluted too.
Okay no problem.
And they really love it and keep having more. I serve in a jar so topped up when needed.

Then it was our turn to visit them again and to my surprise, friend serves 4 glasses of the diluted juice and that is it.

Then her DD blurts out that she is looking forward to come to our house next so she can drink lots of undiluted juice again😅

Friend was mortified and quickly changed the topic.

Btw, her household income is double than mine. But I appreciate she might have debt as she is always complaining about money and the price of things… for instance she complained that her cleaner uses too much product and should use more elbow grease lol.

I don’t have debt. Nor a cleaner.

Should I serve unlimited undiluted juice next time?

She's being really stingy! It's embarrassing when people do this with guests and things that they can more than easily afford

Windysquall · 19/04/2024 18:44

Ditch the juice and drink water. Much cheaper!

Whatifthehokeycokey · 19/04/2024 18:44

Asda basic squash next time they visit, I think.

It IS funny because it’s bonkers.

HoneyDragon · 19/04/2024 18:58

Just how good is this M&S apple juice? I really want to try it now. I don’t even particularly like apple juice.

Super, super good. But it's very sweet, so it benefits from a bit of water being added to it - but not to the degree of diluted squash. It's no cheap either.

icallitasplodge · 19/04/2024 19:05

I always dilute juice. Regardless of how the kids prefer it. It’s terrible for you.

CountFucula · 19/04/2024 19:05

She’s been a bit of a skinflint but you’re giving watered down juice some headspace. So… maybe time to just forget it.

CountFucula · 19/04/2024 19:06

Ps. Is it cherry?

I’m only intrigued as to what this juice is that’s causing such an issue. 😬

🤣 This.
Not the read the whole thread yet because it’s juice… just juice lol pondering mango maybe.

YANBU your friend tighter than a crab’s arse.

GrimDamnFanjo · 19/04/2024 19:10

I'm going with Pom too.

User284725 · 19/04/2024 19:11

Wow. You sound like hard work. Friend dilutes it for health reasons, clearly. She said about expense so as not to come across as preachy because you are more lax about healthy eating. She was being polite at your house. You are not being polite to judge her finances and ruminate on this.

WhamBamThankU · 19/04/2024 19:11

I don't know if she's taking the piss but I can see why it's irked you a bit OP. I just wouldn't have it available when they next come round.

HoneyDragon · 19/04/2024 19:12

I like the Tropicana blood orange stuff but won’t buy it on principle as it is four bloody quid a carton. FOUR QUID.

Will try the apple juice. For science. Definitely not just because the internet told me to.

Greywitch2 · 19/04/2024 19:15

You've been visiting my mother in 1974 when orange juice was diluted and then served to us in a teeny, tiny glass because it was 'expensive'.

This is the only possible explanation for such a ridiculous tale about 'juice'.

Doingmybest12 · 19/04/2024 19:17

Surely if you are serving juice and you like it without water and she has it with you offer both options. Then if everyone has a glass, maybe a small top up you put it away as no one can be thirsty. Or you offer a different drink if you think the whole thing is too controversial. All very odd. Hopefully you enjoy each others company and forgive each others foibles.

OriginalUsername2 · 19/04/2024 19:23

It’s Ribena isn’t it? Lovely, expensive nectar.

kαλοκαλοκαιρι · 19/04/2024 19:25

EmilyTjP · 19/04/2024 15:10

Nope.

loads of people do this, it’s perfectly normal. just different to what you do :)

BaconCozzers · 19/04/2024 14:36

Fuck me, I'm a boring sod and get stuck mulling over details sometimes, but even I couldn't get excited enough to remember or ruminate on this kind of thing more than a minute after it happened! Unclench op, it's fine ❤️
Ps, what juice ...? 😆

This x a million!

Who the hell drinks neat undiluted Ribena? That’s not indulgent that’s hardcore.

pimplebum · 19/04/2024 19:34

So your ( so much richer than yaoow) friend came and drank a lot of juice undiluted at your house but the rich bitch was a stingy host ?

I say poison it next time that'll teach her !

EatCrow · 19/04/2024 19:47

BaconCozzers · 19/04/2024 14:38

It is. Kids eh 😄

Ha! Indeed.

Cowhen · 19/04/2024 20:33

Next time she serves juice at her house, ask her how long she's been into homeopathy.

PerfectTravelTote · 19/04/2024 20:36

You have too much time on your hands.

Caroparo52 · 19/04/2024 20:36

Good grief. Has it come to this?
