Prostitute checked into our hotel!

Ok, so away in London for a couple of days with DH and DD (10). We were staying in a 4* Hotel which is part of a large chain of hotels, not a small independent. We went to reception about 10.30 on the 2nd morning and was met with a lady (who was very obviously a prostitute) being told her room would be ready in 5 mins and her handing over £100 in cash to the receptionist. The hotel is £250+ a night and check in is 3pm!

AIBU to this this made the hotel feel a bit icky and sleazy after I saw that? Husband and I spoke briefly when DD wasn’t listening and he said “well they have to work somewhere!”. Not sure if I’m turning into a prude in my old age, but I really didn’t feel comfortable in the hotel after I saw that. I’m sure for her, it was a safe and comfortable place to work and I know this goes on in hotels, I suppose just seeing it in broad daylight shocked me a bit. We knew what she was there for, the receptionist knew what she was there for, the man behind us in the queue knew what she was there for, maybe I thought she and the hotel should have been a bit more discreet if they allow this to go on in their hotel, especially when it’s a family friendly hotel and there were a lot of children around?

Not all sex work is rape

A punter doesn't "have sex" with a prostituted woman. He is paying her to rape her.

BoneshakerBike · 13/04/2024 19:47

You need to be in the club lounges of hotels- that is a prime spot.

I’ve been mistaken for a sex worker before 🤷‍♀️ and also accused of going for a shag when entering a 5* hotel with my boss during the day. How do you know she wasn’t meeting her secret lover? Or going for a nap after being up all night?

Same, I once got propositioned by a curb crawler at 6:30am on my way to my Saturday cafe job when I was 14.

She paid £100 as she counted it out in £10 notes as she gave it to the receptionist. I don’t want to get into a discussion about you shouldn’t judge a women by what she was wearing etc, let’s just say it was very obvious that she was a prostitute hiring room for the day. This was 10.30am in the morning, not the night.

Perhaps raise your aspirations above Travelodge next time xx

People have sex in hotels? Shock horror

I still wouldn’t want the type of man who used women for sex to be any where near a daughter of mine, never mind if they have already to paid shoot their load so wont notice her.

What an absolutely vile take.

THEY DONT VALUE WOMEN, any women, they think they are owed sex for currency. Appalling attitude.

They exchange sex for currency when they are offered it on the market. Not grabbing women off the street, raping them, and throwing money at them.
Its better than the days when the price was a loaf of bread.

Of course you "dont want to got into discussion about this" and we all know why, just read the dozens of posts by other FM's here

Judging someone by their appearance and or happy they pay is not acceptable in the modern society.

Thankfully I don’t know any man who has raped a vulnerable woman. Perhaps you need to keep better company?

I know my brothers, my partner, my son etc would never ever do this. They think better of women than that.

Ignorance is bliss.

Well done! So have I!

have you ever been raped in a hotel or seen red flags that women might be getting raped in the hotel you are staying in?

paying for sex = paying for rape

DonnyBurrito · 13/04/2024 19:51

The woman from your hotel could have been out clubbing the night before, met someone, gone to the hotel for a ONS, and then been paying her minibar bill when you saw her

ladyofshertonabbas · 13/04/2024 19:52

It’s just life. I’d have been glad to see it, it would liven up my otherwise humdrum existence.

I wouldn't like it OP. I would send an email to the manager of the hotel. If it's cash, someone might be doing something that's not going through 'the books'. If it was a 4 star hotel I'm pretty sure that renting it out for prostitution isn't a standard business decision.

Send an email to the manager? Why? They won't care, it's money to them. Does it really affect you so much? Obviously you think these women should be on street corners. I mean how dare they mix with "nice" people. FFS, sometimes I despair.

Ignorance is bliss.

Nope, I mean I have no clue what my partner did before I met him, but if he is paying for sex now I don’t know where he would find the time or the money!!

My brother is as tight as it comes and I wouldn’t imagine him paying for something he could get for free with his partner or any girlfriend he had.

And my son is 10 and he has been brought up
to respect women, if he did this in the future I would disown him if I ever found out, not that is likely to happen because again,

PAYING FOR SEX IS NOT NORMAL. It’s not a boys will be boys thing, it’s an exception to the norm. If you know people who have or do pay for sex you need to evaluate your relations with them.

I'm also interested to know what marked her out as a prostitute.

I expect it was when the OPs husband said “Hello, Lola, didn’t expect to see you here. How are things? Tried to call you last week but it went to voicemail.”

Are you talking about the “Village”
chain of hotels?
if so, they rent the rooms by the day.
for people travelling, part way through journeys etc or just cos they want to rest.
many hotels rent out day rooms so there’s no guarantee she was prostitution, but so what if she did; you’d be mortified what goes on around you at hotels! Hahaha

@boozeclues stop saying sex work is rape. They are not the same thing. Venture over to AMA where there are many many sex workers who consensually agree to being paid for sex. Sex for money is not rape.

I don’t think you get the moral high ground if the only reason a man in your life wouldn’t pay for sex is because he’s too much of a miser. 😂

In the VAST majority of cases paying money for sex is rape.

It’s not a career choice many women find them selves actively planning. It’s out of sheer desperation. Normally due to addiction or trafficking. This is the only option for some women.

Consent is only consent when there isn’t such a power imbalance. You can not consent to sex if it’s your only option to eat, have money for drugs or otherwise survive.

So yes it is rape, because the woman can not full consent.

Thedogscollar · 13/04/2024 20:04

Pookerrod · 13/04/2024 20:06

You know every single hotel in London will have had a sex worker walk through their door don’t you? Whether hiring the room themselves or visiting clients who have called in for their service. Even those hotels that charge a hell of a lot more than £250pn.

I also don’t believe you can judge whether someone is a sex worker by what they wear so unless she slipped your DH a card, you have no idea why she was there.
