Would we get away with this at the hotel?

We are going to Lapland UK in November, it’s 1-2 hours away and we’ve got a really early entry time so we are staying near there the night before - the Legoland hotel as it’s got more child friendly facilities (soft play, a pool, crazy golf, a sensory area) and my DD (8) struggles with a normal hotel with nothing to do.

DD has autism and needs a lot of help and support therefore there is 3 of us adults going as her carers. The family rooms have 4 beds in them, therefore enough sleeping space for everyone, however the rule limits it to 2 adults only per room (despite allowing 3 children per room so it’s not for lack of space). This would mean booking 2 rooms at nearly £150 each, and £300 just for one night is extortionate (all nearby hotels are similar priced due to taking advantage of people staying there for the same purpose as us).

Would we get away with just 2 adults checking in and then us letting the 3rd adult into the room a little while later? Surely people are walking in and out of the hotel and their rooms all of the time and they don’t check where every single one of them are going if they’ve already got their hotel card etc?

Funny how an organisation should do something to stop people stealing/defrauding them rather than people acting responsibly

IMO, people aren't acting irresponsibly by booking a room for four people to sleep four people.

So yes, it's up to the hotel to change their pricing structure if they don't want that to happen. If I owned a hotel I would charge a flat rate for a family room, no matter how old the occupants. Seems like common sense to me.

@fieldsofbutterflies

If the hotel/train company/attraction are that bothered, they're free to change their pricing structure.

They should change it to charging for 4 x adults per room, no matter what.

Not at all fair on a single parent needing a room for 1 adult and 2 children though, but never mind.

I agree that they should charge the same price whether it's for adults or children, and they could always offer a discount for three people, just as they do for single person occupancy.

Edited

But then people would take the discount and still have more people in the room anyway.

Why wouldn't they - If it's ok to ignore the 2 adults rule, why would they stick to the rule when it comes to the discount?

Well, yes, they could do that.

Just like people getting the single person discount could bring a one night stand back to their room, or a family of five could book a room for four.

Unless hotels are going to start scanning everyone in and out, then there are always going to be people who take advantage, but they can mitigate that by charging a flat rate per room, or per occupant, to maximise their profits.

Ask MNHQ to take this thread down. I know someone who works there and is a jobsworth and has seen this thread - get your dates / identifying info to disappear x

Also - if you need an extra carer and it’s too expensive look at direct payments - employ the third person as a PA and you can pay for it that way I hope it helps

Ourlittletalks · 15/04/2024 19:26

I’d chance it. And ignore PPs saying the beds won’t be made up - that’s completely untrue. I always book legoland for myself and DD, and even with just the two of us all of the beds are made and ready.

and there’s spares in the cupboards

Id just say that it’s 2 adults and 2 kids and the2nd kid is just “in the bathroom” (i.e still in the car) when you check in. It will be fine:

As this is a hotel aimed at children, the security of who is walking in and out is far tighter. I have stayed at the CBeebies hotel (also operated by Merlin, like Legoland) and because of it being a children’s hotel they are very strict on showing check in passes etc as you wander in and out. I wouldn’t want to stay somewhere that is marketed as kid friendly, that was lax enough to let random people mill about.

They’re really, really not 😄 not at Legoland at least. At the park yeah, but not the hotel.
