Would we get away with this at the hotel?

We are going to Lapland UK in November, it’s 1-2 hours away and we’ve got a really early entry time so we are staying near there the night before - the Legoland hotel as it’s got more child friendly facilities (soft play, a pool, crazy golf, a sensory area) and my DD (8) struggles with a normal hotel with nothing to do.

DD has autism and needs a lot of help and support therefore there is 3 of us adults going as her carers. The family rooms have 4 beds in them, therefore enough sleeping space for everyone, however the rule limits it to 2 adults only per room (despite allowing 3 children per room so it’s not for lack of space). This would mean booking 2 rooms at nearly £150 each, and £300 just for one night is extortionate (all nearby hotels are similar priced due to taking advantage of people staying there for the same purpose as us).

Would we get away with just 2 adults checking in and then us letting the 3rd adult into the room a little while later? Surely people are walking in and out of the hotel and their rooms all of the time and they don’t check where every single one of them are going if they’ve already got their hotel card etc?

This is mumsnet so everyone will be along to tell you how outrageously unethical this is shortly. But realistically Legoland costs a fortune for everything so I can see why you’re trying to save. I think you need to work out what your back up plan would be eg do you have means get to a cheaper hotel a little distance away if you were forced to book one?

Watercoloursky · 12/04/2024 14:05

If there was a fire, the hotel staff wouldn't know that they had to account for your extra person...

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 12/04/2024 14:07

Book it as 2 adults 2 children then the hotel will know how many people there should be and ensure enough beds are made up?

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 12/04/2024 14:07

I wouldn't take the chance, but I suppose if you do and you get caught out, then the 3rd adult can just drive home as it is only 1-2 hours away as you say.

Then the 3rd adult can just get up early the next morning and drive back, meeting you all at Lapland UK.

It really is expensive and just for one night as well and no access to the actual park because of it being closed for winter… we could certainly have some funds stashed away by then just incase it came to it on the day

That’s a really good idea and then it accounts for there being 4 people in the room (incase a fire as PP said)

By then we could have put some money aside incase it came to that, the thing with Legoland is you have to pay upfront as opposed to pay on arrival and it’s just a lot to pay out right this minute especially when there is space for the extra adult in the room

You won't have the bed made up or bedding in there plus the fire situation. Housekeeping always knows when people do this as well and it depends on what mood we are in if we tell or not.

YourSnugHazelTraybake · 12/04/2024 14:11

The risk you take is that if they do catch you they are likely to cancel the booking and make you all leave as you'd breached their terms and conditions. In that scenario what effect is that likely to have on dd and therefore the whole trip. Even without the second room it's a lot of money to risk on the chance of not getting caught.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 12/04/2024 14:12

And which adult isn’t going to get breakfast?

Hecate01 · 12/04/2024 14:12

I just read that your daughter is autistic. You could email the hotel explaining and ask if the third adult can stay? They wouldn't risk saying no and all bases are covered in the event of fire and bedding.

Ohnodontwantthiscrush · 12/04/2024 14:12

I wouldn't think twice about this. Book two children and two adults.

We aren’t eating breakfast there, we are eating it at Lapland

Well it's dishonestly obtaining foods/services (you are using the hotel for a service for more adults than you have paid for). So illegal I think.

You may get away with it because nobody notices, and if not I'd be surprised if they pressed charges, much more likely to just require you to pay the extra.

Personally the worry would spoil it all anyway so I wouldn't do it. But that's me, not you!

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 12/04/2024 14:14

*goods, not foods!

Hotels don't get one night stands to sign in. Obviously if there's a fire, op isn't going to keep quiet if one of their party didn't reach the assembly point.

FawnFrenchieMum · 12/04/2024 14:15

Honestly, I would just do it but booking as 2 adults & 2 children so they are expecting four people.
You get caught (which is unlikely IMO), you just say oh gosh, I never thought, little Jonny couldn't come so we brought auntie Paula. We know there was four beds so never thought about it.

crumblingschools · 12/04/2024 14:15

Purplebunnie · 12/04/2024 14:15

Phone the hotel without giving your name, explain the situation and see if they will accommodate all of you in the room for a small extra charge

Yeah definitely be able to do that OP! Just a warning though the Legoland bunkbeds aren’t somewhere I’d want to sleep as an adult 😄 kids love though!
Also if you’re only staying 1 night you’re highly unlikely to be there long enough for them to clock on. Breakfast is probably where you’ll get caught but I doubt they give a fuck realistically.

Oh no, I’m most likely the one going to end up in the bunk bed too 😅😂

I wouldnt do this because of your child's autism. You might get away with it (and if it wasn't for the child I would probably try it) but if you get caught you risk everyone being kicked out which would be very distressing for your autistic child. I would email the hotel and ask for the adult to be allowed in the room considering the child.
