Would we get away with this at the hotel?

We are going to Lapland UK in November, it’s 1-2 hours away and we’ve got a really early entry time so we are staying near there the night before - the Legoland hotel as it’s got more child friendly facilities (soft play, a pool, crazy golf, a sensory area) and my DD (8) struggles with a normal hotel with nothing to do.

DD has autism and needs a lot of help and support therefore there is 3 of us adults going as her carers. The family rooms have 4 beds in them, therefore enough sleeping space for everyone, however the rule limits it to 2 adults only per room (despite allowing 3 children per room so it’s not for lack of space). This would mean booking 2 rooms at nearly £150 each, and £300 just for one night is extortionate (all nearby hotels are similar priced due to taking advantage of people staying there for the same purpose as us).

Would we get away with just 2 adults checking in and then us letting the 3rd adult into the room a little while later? Surely people are walking in and out of the hotel and their rooms all of the time and they don’t check where every single one of them are going if they’ve already got their hotel card etc?

Personally I wouldn't do this - we were in a hotel on Denmark recently and someone tried to get 3 adults.in a room. The hotel.(chain) cancelled their booking. I was actually waiting in reception when it happened. Surely it could spoil your whole holiday, and I am sure they look out for this as people probably try it on all the time.

I can’t see how the hotel would have known though? Unless they were all in a big crowd trying to check in together.

Scarletttulips · 12/04/2024 18:47

I’ve done this.

And I’ve booked 3 kids in as 2 adults and 2 kids - saves even more money that 1 adult and 3 kids.

DSis does it with her DD as 2 adults as it’s cheaper that 1 adult and 1 child.

They don’t care.

And I doubt very much the first brigade are checking Hoyle paperwork for room numbers and missing kids - because I’m sure any parent who is missing a child would make it known.

If there was a fire, the hotel staff wouldn't know that they had to account for your extra person...

This is nonsense - staff may have a general idea of how many people are in the hotel but due to the nature of hotels the numbers are never going to be 100% accurate.

ruffler45 · 12/04/2024 18:55

They have probably seen every trick in the book so dont expect to get away with it including losing your money and an early exit.

Shepadoodle · 12/04/2024 19:10

Can't speak for hotels in Lapland but my sister tried to book a family room in England for a wedding. They were all out and said they couldn't allow her 3 year old to stay with them in a double room. She hung up, called them back 5 minutes later and booked a double for her and her husband. She has a thick Irish accent and they 100% knew she was calling back but they turned a blind eye. They were the only Irish guests at the wedding.

People do it all the time - do you really think staff kick you out if you bring a one night stand to your room, for example?

Magnastorm · 12/04/2024 19:17

You'll probably get away with it, just with 1 adult having an uncomfortable night.

I personally would never do it though, due to being an honest, decent person.

So I’m not a decent person because I’m planning to buy a room for a night that sleeps 4 people and put 4 people in there… righto…please tell me how I can be a rare saint like you? 🤗

Thank you for all of the helpful replies - I think I will go ahead and chance it and book it as the 2 adults and 2 children therefore the room is made up for 4 people. We’re only literally going there to sleep anyway and we’ll be out first thing in the morning. I did have a look at some photos online taken by actual people staying there (trip advisor style) and there’s photos of I would say young teenagers chilling on the bottom bunks and I wouldn’t say I’m much bigger than them 😂 so it might be a tad uncomfortable but I think I’ll fit relatively okay on it!

The risk you take is that if they do catch you they are likely to cancel the booking and make you all leave as you'd breached their terms and conditions. In that scenario what effect is that likely to have on dd and therefore the whole trip. Even without the second room it's a lot of money to risk on the chance of not getting caught.

Most of the staff working in hotels are working for minimum wage, and really don't care.

Just book 4 beds for 2 adults and 2 children.

The hotel staff won't know or care.

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 12/04/2024 19:31

It’s 4 people in a 4 bedded room, just do it!

As the park isn’t open have you thought about booking a premier inn somewhere like Bracknell or Slough which would likely be cheaper? And a better breakfast! :)

Tell me you haven’t read the thread without telling me you haven’t read the thread.

Given I clearly said "I haven't RTFT" your cheesy little schoolgirl TikTok catchphrase falls a bit flat.

Hotels don't make people sign in and out. How would they know whether some or all of the people in a room were actually there at any time?

Well not if you'd died due to smoke inhalation.

DD would struggle to stay in a hotel with no facilities, also premier inn on the same dates are exactly the same price but without a pool, a sensory and play area and crazy golf. We’re eating breakfast at Lapland 😊 thank you anyway though! Xx

Is Lapland UK any good? Have you read reviews? I would definitely want to do that before splashing out on hotel rooms. We are not always great at organising this stuff here!

I’ve never actually been before, and DD has only just started realising what Christmas is and understanding it all so I thought this year would be the right time - I’ve heard it’s absolutely amazing though, and it wasn’t that expensive to go as 2 of us got in on carer’s tickets which were half price!

I’ve stayed in the legoland hotel with two adults and two DC and the DC beds are not really suitable for adults. They were bunks and shorter and (I think) narrower than a normal single. Also seemed less sturdy, though not sure about that as they must take kids jumping on them all the time, I would think. I’m only 5’1” And I’ve have found them difficult to sleep in.

The room was small and very cramped so that’s probably why they limit it.

I had an enormous room last time I stayed at Windsor legoland.

I've also booked a room at a wedding and someone got stone drunk and had to stay in my room. (On the floor) no one said a word, he walked out sheepishly the next day and would have paid if they asked him. But no one said a word.
Also would not been on any fire register, but then I sometimes go out past midnight for a smoke or I cant sleep or other reasons. I would be on a fire register but not there.

Yeah you’d need to look at ones a bit further away. For example Bracknell, Winnersh, Wokingham etc as Windsor is never cheap!
But yes if you’re going to do stuff before I guess it makes sense :)

If you think it's an honest thing to do, why are you asking if you will "get away with it", hmm?

🙄

My children used to think the trampolines (beds) were the entertainment 😂 But seriously Legoland hotel is fab, you will have fun!

LeekAndPot · 12/04/2024 20:05

Three adults in one room I'd be uncomfortable with. Do you know each other well?

I'd book two adjoining rooms at the Premier Inn.

QS90 · 12/04/2024 20:06

Some of these answers are wild 😂 Do you think when people have unexpected one-night-stands in a hotel, they call the hotel first to check if they're allowed??

Just do it, it really doesn't matter, and tuning back in to reality fm for a minute... no-one will care.

Rocknrollstar · 12/04/2024 20:07

Basically aren’t you proposing to steal from the hotel by having someone stay there who isn’t paid for?either you can afford the trip or you can’t afford it. All you need to do is phone the hotel and explain and given the the circumstances I am sure they will agree.
