Would you be offended if your Bil picked you up?

If you were flying to visit your sister on your own with your kids to another country. Would you be offended if her other half came to pick you up at the airport and drop you at your hotel?
Reason being, it’s at night and your sister is doing bedtime with their dc, would this bother you? Or would you expect your sister to be the one to come?
They will see each other the next morning

I wouldn't be bothered by this, I'm confused by your voting!

Whatifthehokeycokey · 11/04/2024 19:10

No, I don't like driving to the airport so I would probably send DH!

Andthereyougo · 11/04/2024 19:11

Not at all. You’re overthinking this.

Longma · 11/04/2024 19:13

Yearendjoy · 11/04/2024 15:21

Won't the sisters see each other later that evening though once BIL has picked up? Will the sister still be up by then?

The picked up sister is going to a hotel.

HereForTheFreeLunch · 11/04/2024 19:14

It wouldn't offend me in the least. It has happened in fact.. no problem.

If you wanted to see her on the night itself are you able to pop round to the hotel to say hello, once kids are asleep?

TonTonMacoute · 11/04/2024 19:16

Wouldn't be offended at all. Be very clear about explaining the arrangements and be sure she knows what's happening and why.

Apart from anything there could be delays - to the flight, coming through luggage reclaim, passport control etc.

JustBeKinder · 11/04/2024 19:17

I’d just be incredibly happy and grateful that someone had come to pick me up

Giggorata · 11/04/2024 19:21

Heavens, no!
I would be thankful that he'd do it.

bohemianmullet · 11/04/2024 19:23

You know I might be inclined if it were me to get DH to do the airport run for your parents instead and you do your sister. As there are two of them and you will have more time with them that day anyway, I think they'd not be too offended surely. Your sister coming on her own and late and you haven't seen her for ages, it might be nicer to pick her up? Otherwise why not run it past her. If you really are not confident night driving, that's a good enough reason and you can say so surely?

Mistymountain · 11/04/2024 19:24

I lived overseas for 20 odd years and no one from my family ever picked me up from the airport when I came home to visit- it didn't occur to me that they would, it's a big chore. I used to catch the coach or train.

Herewegoagain84 · 11/04/2024 19:27

Can’t stand people who are so self centred / expectant on other people. The sisters will see each other in the morning. It’s very likely easier to get the children to bed the way they usually do. Sister at the airport is lucky to get a lift and should stop being so ridiculous.

StMarieforme · 11/04/2024 19:33

Not at all.

Scottishskifun · 11/04/2024 19:38

Honestly after travelling I would just be grateful for being picked up!

My DH picks my mum up when she flies and I sort the kids out she's never once said I'm disappointed it's not me doing it as I just say its DH as I sorting the kids. Again she's just grateful for the lift!

BusyMummy001 · 11/04/2024 19:38

This is reverse, isn’t it?

Nope, I’d be offended if I arrived in another country late at night with young kids in tow and noone came to get me, as arranged, but BiL is family too, isn’t he?

FrangipaniBlue · 11/04/2024 19:42

In light of the MASSIVE drops feed.....

No OP, I don't think your sister should be offended.

Redherringgull · 11/04/2024 19:44

I thought you meant if your BIL physically picked you up.

In both cases, no, I wouldn't be offended at all.

5128gap · 11/04/2024 19:45

I was fully expecting you to mean bodily like a fireman's lift or something! But in the car? Of course not! Your sister is being silly and ungrateful. I hope she grows up and shows a bit more consideration sharpish or good luck with the rest of her stay.

SallyWD · 11/04/2024 19:50

mynameiscalypso · 11/04/2024 15:12

I would be grateful to be picked up in the first place!

Exactly. I wouldn't mind at all.

LuluBlakey1 · 11/04/2024 19:53

Yes, I'd be very happy with that.

Goneback2school · 11/04/2024 19:57

Not offended at all. It happened last week in fact, I was fully prepared to take an uber/ public transport especially as my sister, bil and kids had just arrived back from their own holiday earlier that day. Bil dropped sister and nephew home and came back to collect me and my 2.

Ellmau · 11/04/2024 19:59

Unless BIL is creepy or problematic in some way, no.

anyolddinosaur · 11/04/2024 19:59

No. I'd be pleased they were giving me a lift.

YeahComeOnThen · 11/04/2024 20:04

Stressedjustthinkingaboutit · 11/04/2024 16:00

@YeahComeOnThen No room at the house as parents have come to stay too

@Stressedjustthinkingaboutit

depending on what part of the family it was I'd rather sleep on the sofa...

but another part of the family a hotel for sure!!

Stressedjustthinkingaboutit · 11/04/2024 20:07

@YeahComeOnThen We have only two
bedrooms, dc will come in with us. Sister and two kids can’t sleep on the sofa, plus I think that would be a bit too much of a chaotic house 😬
