Gender assigned at birth

Ketchup100 · 09/04/2024 12:13

Just applied for dd’s 11+ and the online form asked what was my child’s “gender assigned at birth”. AIBU to find this insulting both to my intelligence and to my daughter? She was not assigned a gender at birth. She is biologically female whether or not she chooses to currently follow any particular gender stereotype. Nobody said at her birth “congratulations, your child will like pink and wear makeup”. They simply looked at her genitals and declared that she was (biologically) female, which she is and will always be.

@SoupDragonsFriend do you know how long it takes for membership to be accepted so to speak? I applied via my work email and I think they do checks but I've heard nothing for ages.

Because of the increased risks of stroke, cancer, heart attack, infections and of course the risk of suicide has been shown to be greater after transition. Cross sex hormones are very risky in bodies that are not meant to produce them. I think we will see an increasing number of premature deaths in this group of young people in the coming years. Complications of surgery including infection and tissue necrosis can be very serious.

I know my 17 year old had acute necrotizing pancreatitis last year it very nearly killed him no known reason for it and now he's diabetic to deliberately put your self at risk is mind blowing.

Serious question ,why are they more likely to die before their parents?

Because the drugs have significant side effects that are little discussed or even acknowledged.

For instance puberty blockers are well documented under the drug name Lupron for female people significantly losing bone density leading to osteoporosis, and many other issues. Including connective tissue issues. These are documented from the use for precocious puberty. But it is the same drug and the same side effects have been noted.

A new report was released over the past week that in boys the same group of drugs cause atrophy and calcification within the testes. This calcification is know to be connected to cancer.

Testosterone on the female body has been studied. Because the female athletes given this hormone all have had significant health issues. I don’t believe many lived into old age. Perhaps someone can find that data. I only have anecdotes. Either way, many of them were debilitated by pain and health issues after a while. If you listen to detransitioner females they a
are brutally honest about their health conditions from this hormone. Particularly kidney/bladder conditions. But even after stopping taking the hormones the testosterone levels are very high. Sinead Watson says after 4 years her levels are still very high.

Detransitioners also tell similar stories that they are told to not discuss their health issues within the community. Because the groups don’t want people to question the affirming only treatments that have been so highly politicised.

I suggest too that anyone reading this and is interested, go and read the WPATH leaks report and watch the video sessions that have been had dissecting those leaked screenshots. The clinicians know there are significant issues. But it is so ideologically driven that to mention the issues is considered hateful.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5021764-wpath-leaks

So the situation is that tomorrow Dr Cass is releasing her report on the currrent treatment for children in the UK. There has been numerous countries banning puberty blockers, and NICE and the WHO have stated there is little evidence to show these drugs are even helpful but are certainly cause for concern. They are not reversible as many lobby groups have tried to describe them. And they never were. I am very happy to provide links about bone density issues the current one about testes development etc. and about the realisation that there is significant issues with the current affirming only treatments.

No, I'm sorry, I don't. I don't work in the Civil Service any more. I just thought that the info was worth passing on. I hope someone else can help.

The SEEN website says 'Please note we may not respond to message or enquiries that provide non-work email addresses. SEEN is run by volunteers and we can’t always respond to queries immediately, but we aim to respond within 10 working days.' I wonder if they've been swamped? Maybe it's worth reapplying just in case they accidentally deleted you..

porridgecake · 09/04/2024 15:54

Sharron Davies talks about the East German athletes who took all the medals during the olympics when Sharron should have won the gold. They were all on testosterone and they all died prematurely after years of very poor health. I think she said from heart disease.

SparklyBracelet · 09/04/2024 15:38

@fashionqueen1183 It’s not is it. If you’ve never menstruated then you can’t have a menopause. Honestly, the mind boggles that so many workplaces are entertaining this shit

Exactly. Surely the menopause is medically defined

Abitofalark · 09/04/2024 15:54

I agree with you that it isn't 'assigned' - that's deploying an ugly phrase designed for a political purpose and to enshrine a lie - the question should be about the sex of the child, whether female or male. Gender is used as a synonym for sex. It doesn't mean it's asking about stereotypes.

SoundTheSirens · 09/04/2024 15:54

Prescribing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to confused, traumatised or autistic children is this generation's lobotomy scandal.

GrumpyPanda · 09/04/2024 15:55

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/04/2024 13:57

DH and I are part of the NHS Galeri trial. Our latest online forms to book our blood tests asked "sex assigned at birth". DH was spluttering indignantly....he'd never been asked that before. It's everywhere. I will see if I am able to give feedback when I attend my appointment.

Threaten them to pull out over this nonsense, that might actually get some results. By the sounds of it, you're in the rare situation where THEY want something from YOU.

Miyagi99 · 09/04/2024 15:55

Iwasafool · 09/04/2024 12:45

I know someone it happened to. Born with ambiguous genitalia (think that was what parent said) due to surgical options it was decided the baby would be assigned female at birth. She now identifies as lesbian but is interested in transitioning. I don't know if they would do that now, it was a few years back.

I assume that is rare.

Not as rare as you’d think in the UK. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-calls-for-evidence-on-people-who-have-variations-in-sex-characteristics

And a lot higher in other demographics.

I don’t think it’s meant to insult you, your daughter or intelligence, they’ll know if someone says their name is Sarah or Annabelle but mark ‘male’ there that they’re dealing with a trans person. The word assigned could be taken out but to be honest someone might take comfort in it

Prescribing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to confused, traumatised or autistic children is this generation's lobotomy scandal.

Wait a bit and I am very sure that there will a poster or two who will come and tell everyone that puberty blockers are ‘safe’ and that any medication or treatment has negative side effects and regret. I know a couple of posters who do it on all these threads but never provide any evidence to support these claims.

They never post evidence because by now they fucking know that there is no fucking evidence. Instead they double down and use emotionally manipulative tactics to try to convince readers that they are right.

Well, since the WPATH leaks, I have not seen them try to convince anyone to be fair. It is like they give a weak ‘but they are safe’ and then disappear. Because they know. They know they have been all over these threads in the past advocating for these treatments.

Tell them that her gender was not assigned at birth. Her sex was determined at the point of conception.

If nothing else, consider the cost to the NHS (that we all pay for). Every child that is transitioned will cost millions in drugs, surgery, management of complications, avoidable disease processes over the course of their (shortened) life time. Not to mention the pain and disability they will endure.
It is more than likely these children will die before their parents. Their quality of life will be poor. Being catapulted into sterility, loss of sexual function, osteoporosis, menopause, vaginal atrophy, incontinence, increased risk of heart attack and stroke is appalling. We are doing this to autistic and vulnerable girls.
Everyone should be bothered.

Yes I hear some of those points.

I try to separate my view that people should be free to be whoever they want ( trans) without hatred and ridicule from some of the more concerning behaviour ( e.g surgery/ hormone blockers for kids)

Did you know that Atypical genitals are not the same as ambiguous genitalia. That the rate estimated around the world of ambiguous genitalia is 0.018%.

from the link

“ Research from clinical experts suggests the ‘number of people born with atypical genitalia may be as high as 1 in 300 births, but the birth prevalence of a condition that may lead to true genital ambiguity on expert examination may be as low as 1 in 5000 births.’”

Maybe this is helpful too

I'm so sick of all this shit. My workplace now has a menopause group, stating that it is for women AND trans people because then taking hormones is the same as menopause apparently. Also a ridiculous article published on the works intranet about how biology is wrong regarding sex.

This is the civil service. What the fuck has any of that got to do with the job? And it's not like you can publicly disagree because I need my job.

Sorry for the rant I'm just sick of it, years it's been getting worse and I honestly think we need a massive event, like a war or something to prevent this constant naval gazing. The west has clearly had far too much time on it's hands for too long. We obviously need bigger things to worry about.

I'm in such a bad mood today!

There was a Trans identified male in a women only group I was at last yr.

There were women there who had real problems-
This self identified person said “ Theyget their periods every few days”

No one with a penis can get periods.

The group was completely taken over by this person, who dominated the meetings every week.

Awful.

I voted with my feet.

Women are XX.
XY cannot have periods or a menopause or give birth .

It’s crazy.

YANBU
Someone I know recently completed an online form to have a consultation to get access to a medical abortion from home (the so called ‘pills by post’ scheme) and she had to actually answer the question ‘what sex were you assigned at birth’ as well as answering what her sex is now. For a termination of a pregnancy FFS.

Are they fucking serious 😳🤯

A relative who is a doctor has to grit his teeth and ask males if they may be pregnant. It can be very confusing, gaslighting and offensive for many who have no idea whether he's serious or not.

And I understand my relative finds it absurd, embarrassing and infuriating. Having worked in medicine all his adult life he is quite clear on biology.

Not as rare as many think. And in the past always assigned as female as it is easier to remove extra 'bits' than to add them. And there is a growing number of people who are now totally opposed of this automatic female attribution.

Oh for goodness sake.

The purpose of questions about sex is not to give people comfort but to collect accurate and important data on sex.

And in reality, the purpose of using the word 'assigned' is not to give comfort, but to shore up an ideology which is pretending that sex is not fixed and unchangeable, even though it is, because that suits the ideology. The purpose of that wording is to undermine sex as an important category in how we order the world.

If this was not the case, they would simply ask for ' sex recorded at birth'.

About 1 in 5000. About the same rate as triplets.

eurochick · 09/04/2024 16:25

@MinnieMountain yes I think it was squeamishness about the word "sex". When I was growing up in the days of paper forms, some wag would always write "yes please" in response to the sex question. So I think people started using gender so as to have a different word from the act of sex and now the whole thing is a mess.
