What money has gone to their mates bank accounts?

Ah ok. Total ignorance of politics and current affairs. I suggest you do a bit of cursory reading then you would understand - and maybe find something out about economics and pensions too.
You could start by looking up Michelle Mone, Gove’s mates and Sunak’s wife.
Come back when you have the first idea what you are talking about.

Gosh anyone would think my AIBU was ‘let’s abolish the state pension starting tomorrow’

Would you like it is this was the case, OP?

TheShellBeach · 08/04/2024 18:14

Don't give us that faux-naive response.
Hmm

I’m not. What actual money has gone to their mates bank accounts? How much and to whom?

If pensions don’t rise with the cost of living increasing each year, benefits like pension credit are claimed anyway! Lots of pensioners are on pension credit.

The u.k. pension is hardly massive!

Many also pay tax and many more are now paying tax even with small pensions which take them over the tax thresholds. Including my dad thanks to a very modest private pension tipping him over…

That made me actually laugh out loud 😂. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Meadowfinch · 08/04/2024 18:18

'I’m 32, and I’ve contributed 13 years.'

So you're already several years behind me in terms of paying into the NI system. Already taken more maternity leaves than me.

I'd say the problem is you !!

GoodnightAdeline · 08/04/2024 18:20

It’s awful and they should be locked up but £164m is absolutely nothing compared to pensions, or our budget for just about anything else.

Ostriches spring to mind! Better to shoot the messenger than admit it’s all unaffordable.

Omg, you'd take money from pensionners but you have no idea about any money that the tories have spaffed away over the last few years. Your ignorance is appalling.

SherrieElmer · 08/04/2024 18:22

Boomers had the privilege of living during a time with unprecedented economic growth. They had plenty of opportunity to make preparations for their retirement. It is insulting to demand now from the younger generations to bail out these individuals when we are in the middle of a devastating cost of living crisis with unemployment going through the roof.
And to add insult to injury we still have to tolerate their condescending comments yelled out from the top of their ivory towers calling us workshy, snowflakes and all that bollocks.
Common sense went out the window a long time ago and as consequence generational confrontation is brewing. The situation is unsustainable and something has to give in. This will not end well.

Even if we recouped the money it would be nowhere near enough to solve this issue so it’s pointless bringing it up.

Is it just pension increases you’re outraged about or are you similarly agitated by all of the other benefits that will be raised next month too?

Blackcats7 · 08/04/2024 18:26

Yes! Let the poorer pensioners starve whilst someone tries to undo the years of damage the government has done to the economy! After all their time is up really.
I have a great idea for all those disabled scroungers too. Set the hounds on them, the poor things are bored now the nasty lefties made us stop tearing foxes to pieces. We’ll soon see just how disabled they really are then. Those who survive can be made to get jobs and those that didn’t will be dead so no longer a drain on the rest of us hardworking people.

rainbowunicorn · 08/04/2024 18:27

You are just showing yourself up now OP. It is clear from your posts that you have no real grasp on how politics or the whole benefits and pension system works.

GoodnightAdeline · 08/04/2024 17:17

My AIBU is that we are not in a financial position to be paying more to pensioners

Should we just shoot them all and be done with it then?

Listentogold · 08/04/2024 18:28

OP it might be unaffordable to the country.
That is NOT the pensioners fault.
Have you tried living on £11,500 per year.
There are lots of pensioners who have paid into the system
nearly 50 years. These started work at 16.
And you begrudge them having a small rise.

Ignorant poster.

Pensioners are the wealthiest demographic. Of course you get pensioners in poverty who should rightly be supported, but working age people are far more likely to live in poverty. Yet are paying for this rise. Can anyone justify that?

Yup - and nowt to bring to the table by way of an alternative - just rambling anger

@Notamum12345577 except that no public sector salaries went up that much

LuciferRising · 08/04/2024 18:32

Perhaps start looking at what you can do to secure yours and your children's future, rather than staring at others wishing they have less.
