It's nothing like the term Karen. It's used more like the terms snowflake, remoaner, woke, libtard etc and was repurposed to refer to the impotent red-faced anger that the right display in the face of anything vaguely progressive.

It also works quite well in exposing the hypocrisy in those that get "triggered" by its use, the type that complain about having their language censored, safe-spaces, the perpetually offended, the PC brigade etc.

You're a gammon if you advocate for safe spaces for women?

So its a compliment then!

No, try reading through that again slowly.

I don’t think they can read unfortunately

Or at least can’t read and also understand the words being written at the same time

Just like 99% of the GB news viewers

It’s pretty simple folks. Peter Andre is on GB News and I was shocked by this as always assumed he was a good guy. No attention seeking or clickbait here. Thread just doing what it says on the tin.

Is that it?

You must be very bored!😂

I'm not the one who can't read.

I've never watched it and am as far removed from a tory as you can get.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 07/04/2024 08:50

Years and years ago there long before insta and the likes there was a site (can’t remember what) I’m going back to 2009 if not before - that detailed the wrong doings of the Andres. Did anyone else read/ follow this? Implicated his brother, Peter and their manager.

Andrew Doyle is brilliant.

Pre-Elon anyone could be banned for the slightest TWANW.

Exactly. Andrew Doyles show is excellent and features womens rights campaigners that the BBC wont show.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 06/04/2024 23:21

Tell me, "Karen" is deemed sexist and offensive. Why do you think "gammon" is acceptable?

Maybe because no middle aged racist misogynist has ever stopped spewing their bile as a result of being called 'gammon'. The insult slides off them like the fat on a hog roast. Women being called 'Karen' often serves to silence them, preventing them from being assertive where they have a right to be. I'm not a fan of either term personally but if you're asking in good faith why they're different, that's why.

@JoeLovesGina

I would agree.

And I find the proponents of free speech are often “free speech for me and not for thee”. E.g. Elon who would be more than happy to hire expensive lawyers to shut down a view he disagrees with. And Brand.

Free speech only exists because it can be defined by the opposite. Free speech works in certain situations - when it is understood and is not intended to cause harm. Monitoring of speech is needed in other situations e.g. in schools where bullying speech can cause extreme harm to others.

I’ve never considered Peter Andre to be a leading light in anything - especially his music. I imagine he appears with no real deep/full understanding of the political views expressed there.

Edited

Disagree. Plenty of people actually believe in free speech. This line that free speech advocates don't really believe in it (because of some alleged hypocrisy by Musk for example) is a commonly used deflection. It avoids people, usually on the left, having to grapple with the issue.

There are surveys that show that attitudes to free speech amongst university students have shifted drastically over the last decade. I think this is a real problem.

I like not this news, bring me some different news
Please read in Brian Blessed's voice.

I actually think it's completely impossible not to read it in Brian Blesseds voice. It just happens 😂

Noicant · 07/04/2024 08:57

I prefer France 24 and DW myself but I can’t understand how people who don’t even watch it are able to froth at the mouth over it. I mean really, people actually have twitter brain. The inability to listen to views alternate to your own is very narrowing, I sometimes watch it and then have a good think about exactly why I may disagree with something said.

I think a lot of feminists on this site have spent some time honing critical thinking skills because most media outlets wouldn’t touch sex based rights for women with a bargepole. You have to then debate with people you had previously thought as like you. People who thought perhaps destroying safeguarding for kids and women were treated like they were beyond the pale by interviewers. I think many of us now look at what people are actually saying and consider the merits of their argument rather than what we think they represent or how we think they are politically aligned.

Try ops other cryptic virtue signalling posts in his best booming shout. Amuses me anyway!

I'm doing it with the one about frothing right wingers. It's hilarious.

GN News is designed to give a voice to people not stuck in a woke permanently offended cycle. It’s for ppl who can see a difference of opinion and be ok with that and not assume that person is now the devil incarnate.

Stupid thickos, it’s a shame all people aren’t as informed and intelligent as you are.
personally, I don’t even think anyone should be allowed a different opinion from what the BBC tell them.

Well quite. I don’t pay my licence fee in order to form my own opinions!

That nice Laura Kuenssberg lady tells me how it is, once a week like clockwork. <checks time>

I find it very sad that people are watching and enjoying GB News without being able to spot its extreme right agenda.

It's spreading hate by stealth, dressed up as news, when in fact it's opinions and extremely toxic ones at that.

It doesn't have a right wing agenda , that's a myth peddled by lefties . This country has gone so liberal anything left of centre is now ' right wing ' . Lots of people are just pleased to have a channel that speaks common sense .

It's a lot like the mail , MN, vilifies it yet everyone seems to read it and link to it . GB news is just the same , closet viewers

You watching it then mulling it over is still benefiting the channel

That's the issue

Your actions have directly benefitted an organisation as a whole designed to spread hate.

It’s just as silly as saying you’ll buy tickets to attend a trump rally, because you want to broaden your mind but disagree with him and his political views. You’ve still put money in his pocket to further his campaign.

It’s silly to claim watching it does anything other than promote the channels overall ambitions and goals - which are negative on the whole

It’s exactly like the daily mail

The person who runs the damn channel is a right wing asshole. Did you even see all those nasty, anti Muslim tweets he quickly deleted?

He actively supports and donates to the tories, gives Nigel Farrage a platform to peddle shit and financially supported the leave campaigns.

by watching anything on GB need you also indirectly support all of that as well

Oddly enough Peter Andrey used to live next door to my vet,and my DD ex knew him, from his brothers cafe, (where he worked)they all said he was a really nice bloke.

User135644 · 07/04/2024 09:06

Pickledf · 07/04/2024 08:37

Anyone who accepts money to regularly go on GB news is not left wing, progressive, or a good person

That is a basic fact

Accepting money, appearing on, and promoting a channel that as a whole is designed to push a far right agenda is not something a ‘prpgressive person’ or anyone who was truly left wing would do.

The fact his alternate twitter account (that he denied for a long time was him btw) was banned multiple times for hate speech, the fact he hosts a show on GB news and promotes the channel in general directly counters every positive thing you’ve said about the man.

The fact you happily tune in for his show, bolstering the viewing figures and supporting the channel is not very left wing of you either.

The daily mail sometimes have journalists that are aligned with normal people’s thinking, what most decent people do though isn’t to buy the paper or log in online to read it because the operation as a whole is negative, and they don’t wish to support it financially.

Who cares if he's left wing or not?

Rightsraptor · 07/04/2024 09:06

What a virtue signaller you are OP.

Just don't watch GB News then. You don't have to publicise it: nobody cares.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. But I was trying to point out the hypocrisy in those that use terms like; libtard, woke, safespaces, triggered etc as insults tend to react to the term gammon by apparently being so triggered, offended, claim it's racist (it clearly isn't) etc that they appear to want to do what they claim to oppose.
