And David lammy called women who think sex based rights are important rights hoarding dinosaurs. So does that mean all lefties are twats? Does one twat wipe out the lot of them? There are more.examples from both sides

I'm actually far more left that right but I deviate from the left in their simplistic solutions and their inability to consider everyone's rights and not just the groups they seem special. If you talk to the other side sometimes you find that they have solutions you hadn't considered or their concerns come from a genuine place.

It's not football. You don't have to blindly follow and chant the chants.

Is this ‘common sense’ the same as that shown the group of way-to-the-right-of-the-party Tory Common Sense Group?
Common sense is largely in the eye of the beholder. What you see as common sense I may see as wildly reactionary right wing nonsense.

No, just common sense. EG; 'Our privacy is being eroded by surveillance', which I understand is a topic they were discussing this morning. Why on earth woul anyone consider that topic 'reactionary right wing nonsense'?

Really? There's only one reason why you won't answer a simple question and that's because it will confirm that you're a massive hypocrite.

How am I hypocrite?

Being leftwing doesn't mean I can't see that Lammy can be a bit of a twat, does it?

The Tory party seems to contain an inordinate number of twats though, and Tories themselves seem to think so too - I mean, look at how many prime ministers we have gone through in the last few years, some of them leaving incredible mess in their wake. Talk about the inability to consider everyone's rights. The reason we focus on Tory twats rather than Labour ones right now is because they're the ones running/ruining the country.

It’s not the topic…any topic can have right wing opinions about it. But if you are determined to believe that the self confessed right wing perspective not-news station doesn’t have a right wing perspective, I can’t help you.

GBnews is a rightwing populist channel, it's not neoliberal (centre right) or fascist (far right) but it does have guests and presenters whose views fall between all three camps.

A more balanced channel would have had some focus on surveillance at work (eg CCTV focused on staff) or Amazon warehouse staff wearer wrist trackers. As opposed to limiting it to our individual privacy.

It's a populist talking point, not a rounded discussion.

Northernnature · 08/04/2024 12:09

I don't have a TV licence but when I have seen GB News most of the presenters seem far nicer than the smug patronising millionaire gits I used to see on the BBC (and no I'm not talking about the "celebrities" like farage just the normal presenters).

you answer the question.

Why do you think it's perfectly fine to slur a particular group of people?

Okay so please provide evidence, that their news broadcast sections do not provide unbias news? You know that actual news broadcast with specialist news broadcasters not the presenters.

What's the point in providing evidence to someone from a group that consistently refuses to accept evidence?

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/gb-news-uk-bias/

It's subtle (not that subtle) pattern is to get gradually more unhinged & populist throughout the day. So we'll start with a few cool heads in the morning having a chat and end up with Kelvin Mackenzie suggesting the solution to the channel crossings is to go out and shoot 10 or 20 of them.

It's losing money, its recruiting of hosts and guests isn't about raising its entertainment value, or attracting audiences it's about influencing the direction of government and it's working.

Is that the best you can do? So, obviously you'd be in agreement with applying exactly the same to slurring other groups of people too, otherwise you'd be a massive hypocrite.

Thanks for clearing that up at last.

Well done for tunnel vision.

Calling out a power group is not the same as discriminating against a minority group.

Northernnature · 08/04/2024 15:03

How are working class people a "power" group, what rubbish. I expect you are wealthy and look down on the plebs.

Discrimination is discrimination regardless of who it's against and it's wrong. But I suspect that even you know that. Obviously, I would never expect you to admit it because that would make you look foolish after everything you've said.

People in power cannot be discriminated against.

Is it really though? Even if we go outside of the protected characteristics in the equality act. There's a world of difference between discrimination of, for example social class. Its impact on the working-class, in terms of social mobility, wages etc doesn't compare to discrimination against the middle-class.

The real world impact isn't comparable, it's not the working-class who are generally in a position to offer employment, doing the interviews at Oxbridge or teaching our kids etc.

What power do "fat white men", to quote yourself, have over everyone else that makes them unable to be discriminated against?

GoodfortheGoose · 08/04/2024 16:25

just because one type of racism or discrimination is less bad (in your view), doesn't mean it isn't still racism or discrimination. It doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be challenged.

And how can anyone sit here and say you can't be racist against white people, and expect those same fat white men to give a shit? Would you? Just for the sake of being able to call someone a gammon on twitter, you're happy to cause more divide?

As a fat white man, it seems pretty obvious. There's no power in discriminating against me for being white. No institutional discrimination, no weight of history. We're not even a racial group, you can't wield any power over us. Switch out white men to Jews, Arabs, Indians etc and it's obviously very different.

It's bewildering that you can sit there and think there's any comparison at all with actual racism. Shocking really.
