Sorry to post on here but I need some advice please.

We've got a lurcher pup and this evening we took him down to the local dog run and he was running with another dog when they both came hurtling towards me from behind and slammed into my ankle.

When I say I've never felt pain like it, im not exaggerating. For context I gave birth to a breach baby with no pain killers. It honestly felt like my ankle had exploded.
Its swollen up and if I knock it im screaming out in pain.

I realise I need to get it sorted if the pain doesn't stop. I'm just wondering does anyone think it sounds like its broken? I'm a single mum and self employed so I'm praying it isn't and will be ok in the morning. Thanks for any input

Go to A&E.

Sorry but you need to be seen. Take care.

Zanatdy · 01/04/2024 02:25

Yes A&E definitely for something like that, probably broken I’m afraid

Tel12 · 01/04/2024 02:25

Obviously can't tell by your post but you do need to go to a and e with that amount of pain. On the plus side it shouldn't be so busy. Hope you get the help you need.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 01/04/2024 02:27

there are all sorts of ligaments in the ankle that could have broken away including a bone chip.
best to be x-rayed and placed in a boot.

Concannon88 · 01/04/2024 02:28

Thank you so much everyone. Stuff like this just scares me. I dont have a mum and just need that motherly advice. Thank you 😥

Pop to A&E and chat on here while you're there if it helps.

CheeseDreamsTonight · 01/04/2024 02:30

I have a lurcher too and they are so fast!

GrandTheftWalrus · 01/04/2024 02:34

I broke my ankle putting my trainers on. I now have screws and plates in it. It can happen so easily apparently. So go to a&e. I went and got mine sorted out.

Speak to 111 if you're concerned. I'd definitely get it checked out. Try keeping it elevated.

Calamitousness · 01/04/2024 03:05

From the mode of injury, I’d say there’s a high likelihood it’s broken. If you had fallen etc. there would have been a chance of sprain but not with that description. No point calling 111,, you need X-ray.

SeaToSki · 01/04/2024 03:07

Dont walk on it and get yourself to A and E pronto

In the meantime elevate and ice every 20 mins. A bag of frozen peas works quite well and put a tea towel between the bag and your skin

GrandTheftWalrus · 01/04/2024 05:20

Also I took painkillers and hoped it would get better as I was able to hobble about on it. I do need ro phone the fracture clinic again however as it's starting to click as I walk downstairs.

PoppingTomorrow · 01/04/2024 06:40

How did you get on at A&e, @Noopneep ?

Autienotnaughtie · 01/04/2024 06:48

You need to know if weight baring is a no or not. X-ray is only way to find out

Concannon88 · 01/04/2024 15:13

Me again! The tibia and fibula are broken. Theyve given me a boot, crutches and pain killers and sent me home. I have to go back tomorrow at 4pm to stay the night so on Wednesday they can wire it 😥

RollOnSpringDays · 01/04/2024 15:16

Oh god, that’s nasty poor you. Similar happened to a friend, dog slammed into her and leg in this instance was shattered. Dog injuries are more common than people realise. Hope you get sorted ok on Wednesday, take care x

Calamitousness · 01/04/2024 15:16

So sorry. I did think this was your fate. Get well soon x

Celticliving · 01/04/2024 15:55

Feel better soon. Hope they've given you something strong to take the pain away.
