Invest in a coverless duvet. Problem solved.

Any particular reason you chose the guest room to nap in?

fiorentina · 31/03/2024 21:45

I’d love it if my MIL did this when she came to stay. I think it’s helpful, bung it in the wash and back on later.

Just fancied a change of scene

You were PLANNING to nap on dirty sheets??? 🤢🤢🤢🤢

PheobeBebe · 31/03/2024 21:51

One of our friends do this when they come to stay. I know she's trying to be helpful so I don't get angry with her or anything, but to me it's an odd thing to do and for some reason it really annoys me 🤷

Haha why does it annoy you?

I mean it's not like my sister shat the bed, you know?

I find it a bit odd to plan ahead to sleep on the spare bed. Just for a change of scene. Why wouldn’t you nap in your own bed?

sleepD3pr1ived · 31/03/2024 21:57

I strip the bed when I've been a guest - to be helpful - but I check before doing it.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 31/03/2024 21:58

I agree it is annoying. I might prefer to leave those sheets on and change the bed before my next guests rather than put clean ones on to get dusty.

MrsBobtonTrent · 31/03/2024 22:00

It’s irritating when they strip the bed and don’t button up the empty duvet cover. I forget to check and it turns into a twisted mess in the washing machine.

ChangeAgain2 · 31/03/2024 22:02

I always strip the bed. I thought it was thoughtful and good manners.

CornishTiger · 31/03/2024 22:05

Just say. Don’t strip the bed or anything. I’ll do it when I’m ready to do the laundry.

WaitingfortheTardis · 31/03/2024 22:07

I hate it when people strip the bed. I find it quite rude actually. I will always wash the sheets after a guest, but depending how busy I am that might not be for a few days and I don't want the bed unmade for all that time.

Mydahliasareshit · 31/03/2024 22:07

There might be a reason, unknown to you currently, and she is saving embarrassment for all.

I wouldn't normally strip a bed, and like you have been a bit annoyed at guests doing it in the past. It's like 'you SHALL do washing of linen today'! 🤣

But in the last few minutes of a stay somewhere last year, we'd been on a walk around the garden to ooh and aah at some stuff. Came back, briefly stretched out on the bed to check emails etc prior to departure. Had no idea a tiny bit of mud was on my heel...yeah, we knew what it looked like...😯 that bed was stripped and folded for the wash so none the wiser!

This made me laugh!

I love sleeping in the spare room, the mattress is so much comfier than my main bed!

Yanbu OP I find it a bit rude but not enough to get het up about

Cookerhood · 31/03/2024 22:12

My mum always taught me to strip the beds when I'd stayed with people. I do usually ask.

How is it rude? It’s just different expectations, surely. They might think it’s rude to leave you to strip their used bed linen, so they do it for you.

bluecomputerscreen · 31/03/2024 22:14

yabu

I hate it if visitors don't strip the bed. it's rude not to imo.

It is! Very much the “done thing”.

LeafUsAlone · 31/03/2024 22:16

Why does them stripping the bed mean you have to do the washing that day? And why can't a bed be left unmade?

Pizzaobsess · 31/03/2024 22:17

I’ve honestly never heard this, never done it or had anyone do it to me? I would always change the sheets before a guest stayed but wouldn’t necessarily change it immediately after?? It’s not like I change my sheets daily!

JockTamsonsBairns · 31/03/2024 22:19

Goodness. I've always stripped the bed as a guest. I thought it was helpful, and didn't consider that quite a lot of people would consider it rude.

I don't expect my guests to strip the bed, but I always appreciate it if they do.
I don't need to do the laundry that day, but I'm happy leaving the guest bed unmade for a few days.

HappyInL0nd0n · 31/03/2024 22:20

This stopped me in my tracks! Some people don't want the bed stripped??? Wow, I will always ask in future - thanks for the insight.

We have people coming to stay with us all the time (which we love) but I always ask them to strip the bed! For me, stripping a bed someone else has slept in is like touching their underwear- it totally gives me the ick (my husband and I don't wear pyjamas in our own bed which is probably why I can't imagine guests doing so in our home).

Thanks, Mumsnet - just when I think I've nothing left to learn Smile
