You’ve got to be joking. Sleeping in someone else’s bedsheets is rancid and my fear whenever I go and stay with someone

She wasn't saying she lets guests sleep in used bedding. She was saying she prefers to put the fresh sheets on just before guests arrive rather than just after guests leave. This means that the guests get fresh clean bedding. Not bedding that has been on the bed unused but getting dusty for months.

I agree with RosePombear I would rather change the bed before new guests arrive and leave the lightly used bedding on the bed. I guess it might depend upon how often you have guests, what else the room is used for and how likely it is that the next guest is the same person.

I always fold down the duvet to bottom of bed and put pillows on top when im leaving. And tidy round

A partial unmake of the bed.

I do too and was taught it's good manners. Perhaps I better stop.

At least ask.

I'm in the "please don't" camp. I prefer to change bedding just before guests arrive, so I tend to leave bedding on until my next guests are coming.

I’ve honestly never heard this, never done it or had anyone do it to me? I would always change the sheets before a guest stayed but wouldn’t necessarily change it immediately after?? It’s not like I change my sheets daily!

It’s a very common thing people do. It’s obviously not the same for your own house as you’re going to be the one sleeping in your bed every night so why change it daily?

similarly the guests are not going to strip the bed every night during their stay, when it’s only them getting back into the bed. Guests are stripping the bed when they’re leaving your house, because they know the next person who will use the guest bed won’t be them, so are assuming you’ll wash it at some point before using it again.

Sometimes people do it to hide something they find embarrassing. I was staying at a male friends house once with him & his wife and kids who were staying in serviced apartments as they’d recently moved to the area . My period started and I have a really heavy period flow. I was mortified when I leaked all over the bed through the sheets and into the mattress protector!

Thankfully it was a serviced apartment so when the daily housekeeping called round in the morning and asked if we wanted any beds changing , even though I was leaving the next day, I was like yup! I got a new mattress protector and sheets phew.

But if I’d had to leave that day with the bloody sheets on the bed. I’d definitely have stripped the bed and told his wife too, so she was well warned.

And yeah I know we’re not kids but I prefer not to discuss my periods with platonic male friends lol ( not embarrassed talking about it with romantic male partners though)

I hate it when people strip the bed. I find it quite rude actually. I will always wash the sheets after a guest, but depending how busy I am that might not be for a few days and I don't want the bed unmade for all that time.

I never leave a bed made up if it's not going to be slept in. I like fresh sheets on..funny how we're all different

ACynicalDad · 01/04/2024 21:04

Always do it, don’t expect a friend to touch my dirty sheets, not that I shit the bed or anything…

caringcarer · 01/04/2024 21:08

I find it helpful. One less job for me to do. Occasionally ify DS and girlfriend are staying one night but will then be staying for 1 night 6 days later I tell him to leave the sheets on as no one else will go into the room until they come back.

I agree it is annoying. I might prefer to leave those sheets on and change the bed before my next guests rather than put clean ones on to get dusty.

^^Exactly this!

mondaytosunday · 01/04/2024 21:48

Just say not to bother to strip the bed!

As I said, I was the sheets before people stay over and my family would do the same for me. We wouldn’t be sleeping in anyone’s dirty bedsheets.

That's why I don't want the bed stripping. I want to put fresh sheets on for a guest before they stay but I don't want to have the bed unmade in between.

SkyBloo · 02/04/2024 23:14

I HATE it when people strip the bed.

I often don't have guests coming for a few weeks. I don't want to put the new fresh bedding on in case the cat gets in there (it happens) and i don't want the bed left with nothing on it either as again.... cat gets in and leaves fluff, scratches the mattress etc.

I also associate it with people slightly imposing their own view of what constitutes orderly homemaking on you - its a sort of smug gesture that of course you're going to wash and press that bedding today and can't possibly have anything better to do.
