The thing that men do that is completely normal to most people, but gives you the ick?

Mine is men wearing long socks with shorts. I'm sorry I just can't

poorly - yes. For some reason this word turns my stomach. A guy once said to me he had a "poorly tummy" and it made me feel ill.

It's not minor to me, but someone using the same spoon for stirring tea and coffee after making both at the same time.
Absolutely disgusting and wrong to someone who has OCD issues and a huge reason I don't allow most people to make me a cuppa! The anxiety that it's something they could do isn't worth it!

I don’t have OCD but I always use a different spoon if I’m making tea and coffee. I would hate that too.

Youve made your damaging assumption that she ‘clearly’ has a problem with relationships based on one post?

I think you’re being wildly judgemental and a little bit naive. I disagree with you and think her view on life is a damn sight better than yours!

Grow up you sound about 12!

im only commenting on what she said. If anyone said - man or woman - I haven't been able form a proper relationship in 25 years I would say they have a problem. Not an unreasonable assumption

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 29/03/2024 09:47

The word popped as a verb unless it involves champagne. It is SO TWEE and is endemic on MN.

Haha I'm so pleased there's another 'cold' example! Thought I was the only one with this ick 🤣

Omg 😳 some of you guys are soooo intolerant and judgmental. I'm amazed if you could sustain any human relationship let alone an intimate one. Poor guys don't stand a bloody chance

To be fair I don't think it is a natural phenomenon, I think it's been created in the gym.

Ah that's a true it can also be because they've overworked their traps I think the muscle is, however it can be a natural phenomenon as well.

I'm biased because I had a colleague once who was an awful misogynist and also naturally shaped like a champagne bottle with no gym involved. He wore his shirts buttoned to the neck which really highlighted it Hmm

The irony, from the most judgemental poster on here!

swayingpalmtree · 29/03/2024 09:59

Poor guys don't stand a bloody chance

haha! as if men dont judge women on the way they look. I've yet to hear a man swipe right on someone purely because they have "a great personality" 😂

gannett · 29/03/2024 10:00

I don't really have irrational "icks" apart from maybe the word ick. There are plenty of things I'm not attracted to but there's a huge difference between the mere absence of attraction to a beard or a ponytail and being actively revolted by them. I think if you're finding that normal, commonplace words and behaviours really "turn your stomach" then the problem is you.

That said after the "unusual things you find attractive in a man" thread I think I might be repulsed the next time I see a man put his arm over the seat to reverse. Why do so many women like this? Nothing about driving or cars is sexy.

ru53 · 29/03/2024 10:06

People who go on about ‘icks’

You must spend a lot of your life feeling ill if someone saying "poorly" does it for you. Have you thought about therapy?

HolidayAtNight · 29/03/2024 10:08

Being proud of being able to eat really spicy food and insisting on adding hot sauce to everything.

Change that to women and you might just get jumped on. 😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️

Probably, but this isn't a thread about women it's about men who give use the ick so 🤷🏾‍♀️😉

Long finger nails 🤢

Came here to say this, but I find long fingernails equally disgusting on men and women.

Thank you for the chuckle this morning 😂😂😂

Yes, I am going to spend £50 an hour on deep therapy simply because I dont like the word "poorly". Seems like a highly efficient use of my money

To be fair if you say the word "poorly" gives you ick, therapy might be a great idea. It sounds like if another human was breathing next you - that would annoy you.

You're totes right. I cant stand people and their pesky need to breathe. How very dare they.

Imagine coming into a thread about your most minor, irrational icks, and saying your most minor and irrational ick.

Clearly therapy is the only option for you, sending thoughts and prayers 😂

Well to be fair I wasn't the poster saying the word "poorly" gives me the ick. You just sound crazy 😜

Couples calling each other babe or other revolting pet names.

So this used to be me, I actually ended a relationship of just over a year when he started calling me honeybun 🤢 and he actually said he really liked it as a pet name when I said I didn't like it. I asked him to maybe think of something else and he suggested Princess as an alternative.

Then when me and DH first moved in together, we lived next door to a couple who called each other babe but so loudly we could always hear them in the corridor, car park, through the walls etc. and their babe was in an accent that sounded a bit like "Bob" when they said it. Me and DH started calling each other Bob as a joke and it carried on so now over 15 years later we still use Bob as a pet name. To the point where if DH calls me by my real name it makes me feel a bit icky!

I get the ick from people who carry on messaging group chats when there hasn't been a reply from their first message. We have a few like this in work and it honestly goes through me!

Much appreciated @InTheShallowTheShalalalalalalalow I've just booked an emergency bank holiday appointment with a psychiatrist as a result of a random online stranger's comment. fingers crossed it will fix me 😂

Umm 🤔 not sure about that - I'm just highlighting the mind boggling intolerances on here. I am amazed that some of you can even coexist with your fellow humans. Or maybe you are just so perfect yourselves- that's it 😂😂

The whole point of the thread is that they're irrational. It's a bit of fun. No-one appreciates being picked at.
