To ask if ASMR fingernail tapping on products annoys you?

Lighthearted but wondering if it’s just me. Was watching an ad for a perfume supplier on Facebook. Someone was unboxing three bottles and in each case drummed their fingernails rapidly on the side of each box, then on the glass bottle. I know that ASMR trend is nothing new but it’s fecking everywhere and I find it really irritating 😅 Scrolled through the comments below the video but no-one else seemed to be similarly irked by the tapping. Perhaps I’m just a grumpy millennial… anyone else in that club?

Grumpy Millennial here too and I agree with you @ChuckGarabedian

I did have to look up ASMR though, and it looks like it's the opposite of misophonia. Misophonia is when you get annoyed by certain sounds and that fits this thread description.

Chair scrapers should get the death penalty (light hearted of course!)

Interesting, I suppose these kinds of videos are not ASMR but many are categorised as such. I just don’t get the tapping as a sales tactic!

May I ask what is ASMR, please?

mamakoukla · 28/03/2024 01:21

Please note that this is not the correct definition but I think the correct audience for this alternative definition. ASMR = annoying sounds made real 😏

QueenOfTheEntireFuckingUniverse · 28/03/2024 02:30

Surely anything can be ASMR, depending on who's listening.

ASMR is in the ear of the beholder as it were.

Tapping annoys me. I didn't even realise jt was meant to be ASMR. I just thought it was people being twats.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 28/03/2024 03:11

I have extreme misaphonia and I'm too confused by the common triggers being classed as soothing asmr.
Tiktok is full of content creators eating and drinking on videos because it's supposed to be relatable ,but I'm pretty sure half of us scroll furiously the fck away in irritation.

beachcitygirl · 28/03/2024 03:58

Gives me the total rage 😡

HorsingAround2022 · 28/03/2024 04:44

I absolutely despise it, it immediately makes me irrationally angry.

reesewithoutaspoon · 28/03/2024 04:57

Can't bear it. Makes me irrationally angry. Instant scroll when they do it

Please tell me what ASMR means... I am clearly old and out of touch

It's a sensory thing that some people have and some don't.
It creates for me a really intense relaxed and euphoric feeling and sort of tingle down the back of my spine, I feel really tired like I could fall asleep.
I used to get triggered a lot by certain people's voices e.g talking quietly, usually teachers helping me solve a problem. In work for some reason certain people trigger it as well.
I don't get asmr as much from the videos more a mild version of it, but I don't mind them.

PrimalLass · 28/03/2024 07:12

Yes

NotTerfNorCis · 28/03/2024 07:22

Just Googled for an ASMR video. It turned my stomach. Couldn't get away from it fast enough.

Perfectlystill · 28/03/2024 07:33

So I googled ASMR and the first video that came up (was by NBC and very good) said only one in five 'get' it.

That means 80pc of us don't, and I am very definitely in that majority.

Elebag · 28/03/2024 07:35

I don't watch the tones with much tapping.
My favourites will always be the Gentle Whispering origami and make up videos.

TheSolstices · 28/03/2024 07:41

The ones that enrage me (cosmetic ads coming up on Instagram), are the increasing numbers where the model, applying different products in closeup, then holds the bottle/tube up to her face and then waggles it slightly side to side.

I assume there’s a point to this, like it’s supposed to direct the eye or something, but it makes me unreasonably cross. It’s like cosmetic ads jazz hands.

NeedANewOne25 · 28/03/2024 08:06

Nail tapping, product waggling, phone posing, prancing about with the product, pointing at text popping up around the screen, they all are supremely irritating. I’m glad you mentioned the nail tapping OP as I thought it was just me. I am happy to be told I’m grumpy but my heart sinks when ads with brands I like start doing this. 😂

Explain the product waggling? I’ve obviously only just started noticing it, but it’s mystifying and terribly annoying!

VenusClapTrap · 28/03/2024 08:21

This is a whole new world. Never heard of it, so I googled and watched a video. I neither liked it nor found it irritating; just boring.

LynetteScavo · 28/03/2024 08:36

So, so, so irritating! Almost rage inducing. Easter Angry

RedPony1 · 28/03/2024 08:58

ASMR videos make me rage too!! Hate all of them, makes me so angry.

The same for Yoga, slightly unrelated, but i tried it for a few weeks and the music they used to "relax" actually made me rage so much. My idea of relaxing is putting on rock music and going for a spirited drive 😂

NashvilleQueen · 28/03/2024 10:57

I hate it but do enjoy a video of an animal eating crunchy things. So a Labrador with a carrot or a raccoon with grapes.

Marine30 · 28/03/2024 11:00

It’s very odd - but my 14 year old daughter laps it up. Her favourite is some Dutch girl who whispers all the time. She says it relaxes her. She’s listened so many times she picked up a bit Dutch - silver linings 😂

MADDMaddie · 26/08/2025 05:59

I refuse to buy anything where someone is tapping their nails. It’s annoying as f….

beachcitygirl · 27/08/2025 06:33

I could kill. It’s hideous & they all do it - aaaargh

WonderingWanda · 27/08/2025 06:35

Yes I hate it too....almost as much as I hate the cutesy hand under the chin thing that women do at the end of a video or when they are having their photo taken...like they are framing their face, I don't get it??
