If your neighbour went out in the car at this time would you think anything of it? Just for reference it's a close and most people have security lights and/or cameras

I live on a small close, my neighbours go out at all sorts of times, some come back late sometimes, one starts work very early so often leaves about 4am.

The only one that bothers me is when my next door neighbour goes out around 3 / 4 am which they do quite regularly (I have no idea where to) but it only bothers me because my dog barks when they do, which to be fair isn't their fault or problem. It's my dog that's annoying, not them.

Anxiety can be stressful, and it sounds like you are worrying a lot about other people's needs, but honestly, go out when you need to. Either no one will notice, or even if they do, they won't be at all bothered. It's an absolutely reasonable thing to do. I hope you got plenty of chocolate.

SheepAndSword · 25/03/2024 23:04

@WarshipRocinante you're not helping anyone with your aggressiveness.

naturesform · 25/03/2024 23:07

Do people really think the world revolves around them this much?!

wintersgold · 25/03/2024 23:26

People go out at all times for all reasons. No one with a shred of sanity will notice or care.

Everythinggreen · 25/03/2024 23:29

This HAS to be a wind up 😂😂 what's to think about, MYOB 🤥

betterangels · 25/03/2024 23:30

The shop assistant looked at her watch because she's counting the minutes until she can leave. It's not personal.

RawBloomers · 25/03/2024 23:31

Springisnear4 · 25/03/2024 21:40

My front door sticks and can be loud

It’s a bit unreasonable to have a loud door and not fix it.

It is not at all unreasonable to leave your house at any time of the day or night. Nor to go to the shop when it is open however much the person being paid money to be there would prefer for the business to get no custom, go bankrupt and let her go (which she almost certainly doesn’t actually want, despite looking at her watch and wanting to be home).

MzHz · 25/03/2024 23:33

Springisnear4 · 25/03/2024 22:31

Yeah, I felt like one of the people behind the till was a bit annoyed I was there 15 minutes before closing and when I got in the car I could see her looking at her watch

Honestly, whether you were there 15 mins or 5 mins before closing time wouldn’t make a difference, she’ll still finish up when all the till closing etc is done, WAY after you had left the shop

shops are open late exactly for situations like this.

please don’t give any of this another thought. You needed to go out for painkillers and you’re entitled to do so. You’re worth more than worrying about it being late (it wasn’t)

feel better soon! Enjoy the chocolate 🍫

As someone who has worked that shift every week since forever, its not you she was pissed off with!

Its that she has 15 loooooong minutes until the end of her shift! Frankly, I couldnt care less how many people come in last orders in the shop, in fact the more the better as being busy makes the time go quicker.

Its funny, you can do an 8 hour shift and 7 hours will be fine but that last hour drags.....and the last half hour really drags...and the last 15 minutes feels like eternity!

Dartmoorcheffy · 25/03/2024 23:37

I live in a small cul de sac.we all know each other. I went to the all night petrol station at 11pm for cling film tonight.

I quite often go after midnight too if I realise there's something I need or had forgotten.

Teenagehorrorbag · 25/03/2024 23:39

Usually to ferry teenagers about maybe? Picking up a spouse from a night out you'd hope would be later.....

My neighbour always goes to Tescos late at night as she hates crowds.

mrlistersgelfbride · 25/03/2024 23:45

I often go to the shop about 9:45pm after DDs finally fallen asleep to get some bits to save time the next day.
I wouldn't notice or care if my neighbor did the same.

SpidersAreShitheads · 25/03/2024 23:56

See, I don't know about the shop worker.

I am out shopping late very frequently. Very, very frequently. I am a total night owl. The people at our local garage are lovely, and never act as if I'm disturbing them even when I rock up at 3am.

However, the local supermarket garage is another matter. The other week I went in and bought some kindling about 10 minutes before they closed at 10pm. I'd tried about four different places and everywhere was out of stock so I was delighted to find some (our axe had broken and we were waiting for a new one to be delivered and tbh, I was bloody cold so wanted to light the fire).

The bloke looked really arsey when I went in. Paid by card so no need for extra work if he'd already cashed up/balanced his till.

I apologised for coming in so late, because I'm British and we apologise for everything, and then I said "so glad I just about made it here before you closed.". He said to me something along the lines of "yeah, it's not as if we've been open for the last 14 hours when you could have come in at any time..."

No smile, very pissed off tone of voice. No question he was being snarky.

I don't know why he was so shitty. But he was absolutely fucked off at my arrival.

Also, a similar attitude at the chemist round the corner. I arrived with my daughter a clear 15 minutes before they closed to pick up a prescription. Usually the prescription is all bagged up and ready for collection so it's not as if the pharmacist would have had to make it up. I was expecting a grab and dash. Also, the prescription had been sent to the wrong pharmacy so I'd already been elsewhere on a wild goose chase hence arriving so late.

Walked in - the shop assistant usually behind the counter had a scarf on and was round in the pharmacy bit (which is open so you can see directly into it). The pharmacist had her coat and scarf on and she had her handbag on the table, with her keys in her hand.

They were really rude and definitely pissed off that I'd arrived when they were about to slope off 15. minutes early. They didn't want to look up my daughter's prescription on the computer, and I had to dig my heels in to get them to serve me. As I was leaving another customer walked in so I didn't feel quite so guilty!

Some people are just arses. And I worked in a shop for two years when I was younger so I'm not unsympathetic to wanting to get home on time, hence why I'm always so apologetic for turning up quite late!

@WarshipRocinante you're not helping anyone with your aggressiveness.

In fairness @WarshipRocinante had a point. The OP is anxious about the neighbours, the noisy doer and then by coincidence the assistant seemed irritated?

No, it's an OP issue and she needs to build some coping strategies.

PeopleAreWeird · 26/03/2024 01:27

Once every 3 or 4 weeks, we get home at about 1am
We live in a very small and quiet close , where all the residents lights are normally out by 10pm

We have motion security lights and so do the neighbours on both sides and opposite, so its like Blackpool illuminations when we pull in but its just one of the things

Some people work nights and come and go at that time every night

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/03/2024 07:29

I work weird shifts, and occasionally have to whizz up to my mum's in the night. I often go to the gym very early or very late (after 9.30 pm!). I've lived in the same cul de sac for 20 years, no one has ever said anything.

Growlybear83 · 26/03/2024 08:34

It's not particularly late. I went to the InPost lockers at 11.30 on Sunday night to drop of some things I'd sold on Vinted. I often pop to the shop down the road at about 9.30 after we've finished dinner.

Thanks for the kind and helpful comments.
This is life for someone with crippling anxiety unfortunately! If I was reading it and I didn't get it, I'd just be glad I didn't have to live like this.

Omg. No I’m cares! You being there 15 minutes before closing doesn’t change anything for the staff. You got your stuff and left. It doesn’t makes a difference. She was looking at her watch to see how much longer she had until home time. It was nothing to do with you.

Retail workers only care if you walk in 30 seconds before closing or start doing a massive shop when they’re about to close.

You really need to get out more.

It's not about needing to get out more. This comment is quite ignorant.

Sorry you are suffering from anxiety, have you tried CBT therapy or any other coping mechanisms? X

@MehNotSure yeah I've tried it all unfortunately. It's a problem of about 20 years.
