If your neighbour went out in the car at this time would you think anything of it? Just for reference it's a close and most people have security lights and/or cameras

I don’t live my life around curtain twitchers - I leave my home whenever I choose to.

Comedycook · 25/03/2024 21:41

So?

Do you have anxiety?

I do, yes

I know what u mean. I also think 9pm is too late for a shower. Just the way I was brought up lol

Where are you showering? In the neighbours bed?

I do what I want when I want. Right now my washing machine is on, my dishwasher is on, and we haven’t long got home from being out. I’m just about to have a shower, and then I’ll blow dry my hair.

There are no laws as to when you can make normal household noise.

What? 😂 unless you yodel at the top of your lungs whilst tap dancing down the drive to your car, then why would anyone even notice?!

😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I've been out and got what I needed, thanks

No not really. I often go out at this time, go to the shop, pick up a child from the station, anything really

SheepAndSword · 25/03/2024 21:59

@Springisnear4 oh that's cool, you can relax now

CanNeverThinkOfAName · 25/03/2024 22:00

Good gracious OP! If any of my neighbours said anything or claimed I’d disturbed them by going out in my car at 9.30pm, 11pm, 1am, or even 3am I’d tell them where to go. Not that they ever would, mind.

Unless you are planning to go marching down the street playing a one man band, no one will notice or care.

🤣🤣🤣

AlbertCamel · 25/03/2024 22:09

It's good OP went and is back home now and it may be something someone with anxiety might need reassurance with.
Never ever crossed my mind though. I often go out late, to the shops, to the pub for last orders, for a walk, and also return home late after being out. But then I live within walking distance of it all and it's not unusual for people to be out and about here at night. I don't think my neighbours give it a second thought, and neither do I when they do the same (if I were to notice)

Yeah, I felt like one of the people behind the till was a bit annoyed I was there 15 minutes before closing and when I got in the car I could see her looking at her watch

OP posts:
SheepAndSword · 25/03/2024 22:33

@Springisnear4 tough, you were there before stop serving time. She can tut all she likes but she's in the wrong.

Omg. No I’m cares! You being there 15 minutes before closing doesn’t change anything for the staff. You got your stuff and left. It doesn’t makes a difference. She was looking at her watch to see how much longer she had until home time. It was nothing to do with you.

Retail workers only care if you walk in 30 seconds before closing or start doing a massive shop when they’re about to close.

You really need to get out more.

Who tutted? She looked at her watch, after OP had left the shop. Because it’s close to end of shift and every retail worker will check the time over and over waiting for clocking off moment. It’s nothing to do with the OP and the worker wasn’t rude. Jesus.

ThinWomansBrain · 25/03/2024 22:39

misinterpreted the post

I assume that most people voting YABU either assumed the same as me, or that it's bonkers to be concerned about it - not that you'd be unreasonable to go out at 9.20

Waitingfordoggo · 25/03/2024 22:41

That shop worker is being paid to be there OP. That is their job. You don’t need to feel any guilt or feel sorry for them. Glad you felt able to go out and get what you needed.

Have you ever had any counselling? If not maybe it would benefit you to talk to someone as it seems like your anxiety is making you live somewhat apologetically and worrying too much about how your actions might impact on others. It’s good obviously to consider the other humans we share the world with, but you are also entitled to meet your own needs and take up
some space in the world. Maybe a counsellor could help you explore that. 💐

SheepAndSword · 25/03/2024 22:43

@WarshipRocinante OP said she felt like shop assistant was annoyed and when she got outside saw her checking her watch.

To quote you, Jesus.

She couldn’t leave for another 15 minutes regardless if you were there or not.

She was looking at her watch so she knew what time it was, because she knew she could nearly leave. I must look at my watch 5 times an hour (no exaggeration)

Springsombrero · 25/03/2024 22:43

Hi OP, that’s just the anxiety talking - try to rationalise that thought away. No way would a shop assistant be annoyed at someone coming into a shop a whole 15 minutes before closing.

Well done for going out, and try to keep pushing yourself a little when you can. Hopefully this thread helps you realise that most people don’t think the way you think they do (e.g. we couldn’t care less what the neighbours are up to at 21:30).

JanglingJack · 25/03/2024 22:47

MidnightPatrol · 25/03/2024 21:30

Must be off to bury a body OP, 9.30!

I was just thinking that. Especially in a 'close'. There's always one with odd behaviour which equals serial killer.

WarshipRocinante · 25/03/2024 22:49

SheepAndSword · 25/03/2024 22:43

@WarshipRocinante OP said she felt like shop assistant was annoyed and when she got outside saw her checking her watch.

Yes, but I think we all know that that was all in OP’s head. The shop assistant didn’t tut, you made that up and she also wouldn’t be annoyed by OP being in the shop, which we all know. So you’re not helping the OP by joining in with her made up anxiety driven scenario.
