Should I bin my friend's art?

My friend painted me a picture. The sentiment was lovely but I really hate it. It's not my taste and not in keeping with my house. I keep it behind the TV and hang it whenever she comes to visit so I don't hurt her feelings as she is really proud of this piece and spent many weeks making it. I'm moving to a new house and I don't want to be carrying things that I don't like or want to my new home. I want to take the frame and bin the actual painting. She's a good friend and she is likely to visit and possibly ask where the art is.

I have the same problem. Picture gifted by my sister. It's just not me it's in a bedroom. It annoys me slightly whenever I see it. I paint too but I have never given them to anyone unless they asked. 1 I don't think they are good enough and 2 art is so subjective. It's a terrible picture tho!! Scary

Didn't read all the posts, but can you leave it in the old property? If she mentions it, then you can say the removal company must have missed it? New owners or tenant disposes of it for you. Although you do run the risk of her making another. Depending on the size can you put it in guest room/guest bathroom so you rarely have to see it

Yes, actually on thinking about it this is a great idea- hang in bedroom, show her round new house then when she's gone remove it and put it in storage. Noone pokes around in their friends bedroom when they visit. Or, you could even just put it in the bedroom without hanging it and say you're going to hang it in there when you've got settled properly in the new house and point out the wall you intend it to go on.

I know I’m in the minority here but donate it right before the move, if your friend asks about it, just say it must have been misplaced in the move. If you don’t want her to replace it, get something else or just tell her you don’t have space for another one.

How have you not only commented on a thread that's over a month old but also missed the pages and pages clearly saying the photo posted was from the TV show Friends and not even posted by the OP 🤣🤣🤣

This one needs some strategy and planning. A wannabee artist with no following and no one who wants her pictures?

You just have to be brutal and say,

"Sorry Jane, but there is no way I can display a friend's art work. My kids were a bit upset at the last home, when I wouldn't hang their pictures on the walls. Sorry, but for the past couple of years, I've only put up your picture when you visited."
