Posting here for traffic. In the office this morning, there were 2 members of my team having a moan. Essentially, someone had gone to the toilet and had sprayed some of the provided air freshener. Staff member moans that the staff member in question should have waited until they got home before they "stink out the work toilets".

Staff members in question are mid 20s. It started a stupid debate in the office and basically, the older generation see no issue with going to the toilets at work. Younger generation claim they would be mortified and state they would not poop at work!

Is it a generational thing then? I'm of the mindset, if you have to go, you have to go!

YABU - Get a grip - poop away
YANBU - Gross! Hold it in until you get home!

YABU. You cannot help when you need the toilet and it is not healthy to hold it in!

I was once questioned by my male boss (in my old job) about why I went to the toilet 3 times in an 8 hour shift. It turns out one of my colleagues complained. I told him straight, I have very heavy periods and cannot go more than 2 - 3 hours without changing. He never asked again!

I worked with a lady that went every day after lunch, she used to cough really loud to make sure we couldn’t hear then sprayed air freshener. We used to say the corridor then smelt of tropical scented 💩.

With Crohns, ulcerative colitis and other bowel conditions you really don't have a choice I'm afraid!

Is this a thing? Never heard this in 38 years of office work. If you need to go, of course you go. Youngsters get weirder by the day!! LOL

I’m of the middle generation & it really gets on my nerves when someone has a crap & stinks the one & only loo out its fucking gross; it’s got to the point where I will not use the bathroom at work unless I’m about to pee myself I work a six hour straight shift; I’ve asked the men not to use the bathroom the ladies in the office use but no the dirty pigs still do it.
I swear to god it smells worse than a rotting corpse; that’s been left in one of those 1980’s road side loos that were a trench in the ground with a wooden box over the top with a loo seat & loo grill on baling twine.
I hate even walking past the loo when one of the men have been in there though it does make me wonder are they like this at home? Do they leave the loo dirty & smelly? Do their wives clean up behind them because I certainly wouldn’t put up with it; I’d go mental.

I don't go very often (probably 3 times a week) anyway but I can't go at work. It's like my bowels are shy. I'm aware that this is probably part of the reason I don't go often - but other than sitting on the toilet for half an hour hoping something will happen (not possible in our care setting) then there's not much I can do. I don't have a problem with anyone else having a crap at work though. That's what toilets are for.

Hillarious · 26/03/2024 19:28

Always poop on company time.

Stopmotion24 · 26/03/2024 19:29

Well after all toilets were not put there for people just to do their hair and make up, what do they expect? Maybe they should hold their pee in until they get home if they have a problem with using the same toilet as their colleagues!

BlueFlowers5 · 26/03/2024 19:43

I've never come across this as a thing at work. And how do people concentrate on their work if they are holding it in for hours?

Jumpers4goalposts · 26/03/2024 19:46

If you need to go you need to go

SouthEastCoast · 26/03/2024 19:49

Shocked at how many are ok with pooing at work. Gross to do and for others to do. I’m OG

Hankunamatata · 26/03/2024 19:52

Pre kids I probably would have been the same. Post kids my body does its own thing. When I have to go to bathroom I have to go. Covid was a nightmare when they closed all public toilets.

I'm shocked by how many eejits are shocked by pooing in work!! That's not normal!

But hey I will try not to poo in work any more if you have my severe bile acid malabsorption in place of me. You would be more than welcome.

But do live a little!!

Does OG equal obviously goady?

User0311 · 26/03/2024 20:04

It's bad for your body if you don't go when you need to! I couldn't care less where I am if I have to go I have to go.

Poshladyjane · 26/03/2024 20:09

I have IBS. I couldn’t hold it if I tried. I keep poo pourri to spray in the toilet before I “go”. So unkind of their colleagues to be so vocal about something so embarrassing.

Rhaenys · 26/03/2024 20:11

I can’t do it but I don’t have an issue with others doing it.

I never seem to need the toilet when I’m out of the house. The only times I’ve ever had to poop in a public toilet is when I’ve been ill.

HesterRoon · 26/03/2024 20:13

I don’t go at work-hate the thought of it. I suppose I would if I had to but Itend to go in the morning anyway. And we don’t have smelly loos at home-unless we’ve eaten something really strong. But I think people who eat a lot of meat have smelly poos.

Do some people have magic arseholes that can hold a shit in all day? Wouldn't that be horribly uncomfortable and bad for you?
If it's frowned upon to use a toilet for its intended purpose is it better to shit your pants?
So many questions...

Edited

My day has been significantly improved by coming across the phrase magic arseholes. Thank you!

That's really bizarre - him, I mean. I would go on average maybe 4 times in 8 hours (and not due to periods), and I don't suppose that is unusual. For a start, coffee makes me need a wee, and so does very cold water. Why on earth would anyone complain, and why would he think it is acceptable to question you about it?

GalileoHumpkins · 25/03/2024 14:18

I do think spraying air freshener is more antisocial than pooping though, that stuff is awful to breathe in and the air just smells likes poo scented flowers.

V.I.Poo is a life saver!!

Mrbumpssmile · 26/03/2024 20:21

Do you remember lighting a match and throwing it into the loo pan as a child in the 80s?
