Is it seen to BU to go to the toilet at work?

Posting here for traffic. In the office this morning, there were 2 members of my team having a moan. Essentially, someone had gone to the toilet and had sprayed some of the provided air freshener. Staff member moans that the staff member in question should have waited until they got home before they "stink out the work toilets".

Staff members in question are mid 20s. It started a stupid debate in the office and basically, the older generation see no issue with going to the toilets at work. Younger generation claim they would be mortified and state they would not poop at work!

Is it a generational thing then? I'm of the mindset, if you have to go, you have to go!

YABU - Get a grip - poop away
YANBU - Gross! Hold it in until you get home!

Never been able to go at work. If I’ve really needed to I’ve left the building and gone over to the McDonald’s next door.

Just glad I’m not a man and don’t have to deal with urinals. That would be a whole different level of awkwardness.

I hope that you at least bought a coffee. . I very rarely eat in Macdonald's but it was so handy when my son was small to be able to access a safe, clean toilet in the city centre. However Macdonald's isn't a public toilet. I always bought something, even if it was just a coffee and a Macflurry.

RosalindFranklin13 · 26/03/2024 01:07

I think people should be ashamed of talking about it and criticizing other people for using the toilet for its intended purpose. That is extremely vulgar. We are human beings and that means we are living creatures whose bodies digest food and pass waste. But we aren't just our bodies. The conversational level should rise above remarking on what we can't help doing to be healthy, normal people, and address what is in our minds and souls.

Obviously of you have a medical condition that's different. But if you can wait until you are home why wouldn't you? It stinks. Gross

Come back to me when you have severe bile acid malabsorption and see how you feel then!!!!

NC03 · 26/03/2024 01:26

I'm bemused how you're meant to go before work even if you don't need to
I either need to go, or I don't. It's not like you can just have a try in case!

Our toilet breaks at work are limited though (breaks, lunches plus 10 mins toilet/drink time) so if I was longer than 10 mins I would have to tell someone

I do think spraying air freshener is more antisocial than pooping though, that stuff is awful to breathe in and the air just smells likes poo scented flowers.

Shitrus! My mother always sprayed a ton of air freshener after having a poo or farting, I now can't stand any of them because they automatically smell like shit to me! 😆

NecessaryNC24 · 26/03/2024 04:06

A colleague of mine goes exactly the same time every morning - about a quarter to nine. You could time him to a second 😂.

Londonnight · 26/03/2024 05:55

I've never understood this aversion to using toilets at work. What are they there for if not to be used? Are they there just to look at?

I have come across this many times in different work places, and I still don't understand the issue. If you need to go, you need to go.

2HikingPoles2 · 26/03/2024 06:22

12 hour shifts
Of course people are expected to use the work facilities
End of

DaisyMcFacey · 26/03/2024 06:26

DS holds it in ALL day at college, tells me it’s not the ‘thing’ to do while there and that everyone would know he’d ’been for a shit’!🙄

All I can think is thank fuck I work in a workplace with people sensible enough not to moan about normal toilet smells. That would be considered really poor form where I work and I can't imagine anyone ever doing it (and nor have I come across it and I have worked there 20 years!). Although our workplace is civilised and the toilets are well away from the office, so any toilet smells stay in the toilets and no chance of reaching the office.

I mean I wouldn't poo at work if I could help it, but if you have to go, you have to go...

Has no one told these twats young people that holding your poo in regularly is not good for you?

Edited

Why so ageist?

Well yes...as I said ...if you have a medical condition.... for the hard of reading ....

But what @Fecked... Did I say that I shout it out load so everyone can hear it? Or you just like to whish stuff to random people?

Come on!, if you can smell it, and someone ask where is Mr/Mrs so and so I smirk and I say it and because is funny seeing someone looking for someone else, not knowing where they are but I know and of course I'm not disclosing it first of all because is none of my business.
@Noyesnoyes the above, you think is childish I think is funny.

@Epidote is assumed you weren't still in school. Maybe I'm wrong?

BigBreaths · 26/03/2024 07:17

I am 55 and DH is 54 and neither of us would poo at work unless it was completely unavoidable.

I could not poo in a cubicle open at floor and ceilings with someone in the stall beside me.

Throwyourkeysup · 26/03/2024 07:17

babyproblems · 25/03/2024 23:09

This is exactly me and my friends. One of my friends can’t stay in a hotel with her partner because she will not / can not ‘go’ with him in such close proximity 😂… yes we are really prudish

This makes me wonder if you and your friends have given birth in front of your husbands and if so, how did you cope?

I honestly can’t believe the prissiness demonstrated on this thread. How come people are so ashamed of ordinary body functions?

It’s all very silly and prissy like being back at school. And, as someone else said, ageist. Many people who are older or some who have had hysterectomies or other operations, do not have the capacity to delay until they get home. I would say to anyone who has an issue with this to grow up, have some compassion for others and treat them with dignity.

OnHerSolidFoundations · 26/03/2024 07:27

The young people are being rude imo.

And it's poo. Not poop. Unless you're American. Or 5yrs old.

Epidote · 26/03/2024 07:28

@Noyesnoyes being in a school has nothing to do with sense of humour. They may differ a lot amongst people. This thread is a clear example of how something that natural like poop can trigger some individuals to say passive aggressive stuff.
For you is childish, for me is funny. I gave you that, You think is childish and I acknowledge your point of view, end of the story.

You are aware that everyone shits and yes it sometimes doesn’t smell pleasant but it’s a fact of life?

Honestly some of the responses on here are so uptight. If you need to shit, have a shit, not everyone is able to or wants to hold it in and have a bathroom schedule like Sheldon Cooper.

If it bothers you that much, put some air freshener in there.

It’s not funny if you’re sharing intimate information about people with a view to mocking them and bringing other people in though. Unless that person is happy for that to happen and is in on the joke, it’s bullying,

If being near the loo bothers you so much that you can smell it and feel the need to behave like a 15 year old school bully perhaps you should ask to move?

You are a pathetic, nasty, childish bully. Grow up.

The levels of stupidity about how bodies work , the inane pearl clutching prissines and smug bullying displayed on here , not just by you, but your fellow 16% are depressing.

Auburngal · 26/03/2024 08:22

People who can’t understand that others may have issues in the toilet department and/or don’t have an issue where they do their no2s need to GROW UP!

Pooing is as natural as sneezing

LordPercyPercy · 26/03/2024 08:23

@Epidote that is unpleasant, childish, bullying behaviour.

Zyq · 26/03/2024 08:26

sparkles7846 · 25/03/2024 14:17

Currently having this issue now. I'm dying but I cannot do it at work 🤣🤣 even going for a wee I can't because it wants to exit haha

So, give you posted around 2pm, did you sit there for another three hours desperate both to wee and poo? How did you manage to get any work done?

Zyq · 26/03/2024 08:31

If you have a medical issue then it’s different and can’t be helped, but surely most adults don’t poo at work! It smacks of laziness to me - couldn’t be arsed to get up a few minutes earlier to go before work.

What smacks of laziness to me is making an assumption that everyone else's body works exactly the same as yours, all the time. Not everyone needs to or can poo first thing in the morning: their body clock may well work in a way that means that, say, they poo an hour or two hours after meals, or their system only gets working after they've had the benefit of that walk to and from the station, or whatever.
