Instagram 'Influencers'

AIBU in thinking posting your child's every move on Instagram is setting them up for being bullied and ridiculed by their peers or do you think it's ok to use your children as your 'brand'? One particular 'influencer' winds me right up with the way she infantilises her 11 year old son in her posts to get herself likes and I feel like she's asking for both her kids to get bullied. Kids can be really cruel.

There really ought to be more restrictions for posting content on YouTube, Instagram etc involving children who cannot consent for this reason. Posting your young children should not be a business venture.

There are 8/9 year olds with 95k to 200k followers themselves. Fuelled by media stardom and sports sponsorship deals. The children are ambassadors for all sorts of stuff. Lucrative but not sure a normal 8-9 year old is in control of their content & who sees it

But just looked at the tattle thread, and honestly that is appalling

I totally agree that I have read much worse comments actually addressed directly to people here on the grounds that it's AIBU, well we're harsh!
Reading Tattle has opened my eyes to a lot of things some of these people are doing that I hadn't thought about properly and reading it suddenly thought oh my God, this is so awful.

Doesn't make it okay though? You can call out poor behaviour and gifting without resorting to derogatory remarks about their looks. You have to wade through a lot of surface level bitching to get to some of the good points.

To be fair, if you are going to constantly show your knickers, your gunt (how I love that word) and do first thing in the morning close ups to the camera before you even comb your hair and clean your teeth, I'm not sure how you can be remotely offended by anyone bitching about your looks on an internet forum.

Her behaviour or people’s comments?

Toothbrushh · 27/03/2024 18:13

Oh, I’m not interested in her enough to really examine her, no the comments awful if you don’t like it just ignore it

YANBU.

Did you see the influencer who documented her abortion on there at the weekend? When she grows up maybe she’ll realise not everything should be shown for likes.

MermaidEyes · 30/04/2024 11:57

If you're new here then top tip, don't advertise your business 😉

I've seen one couple posting every single thing about their miscarriage from photos with the child to actually digging its grave.

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 05/05/2024 13:26

@RaraRachael are they a religious couple and one from a very large family? If not then there is another couple doing the exact same thing which is a bit disconcerting to see on Instagram!

twinklystar23 · 10/05/2024 07:26

Wasn't there a new law on data protection for children? It would be if that's the case on the information commissioners website not sure how a child could leverage that against their parent though if the law is specific enough in that regard
