Sick of wasting my life because of the rain

1000 replies

GoodnightAdeline · 24/03/2024 19:18

I don’t care how many people say ‘it was always like this..’ yes it rained a lot when I was a kid but now it does nothing BUT rain.

I swear to God out of the last 30 days we have had 1 or maybe 2 where it wasn’t fucking raining. And they’re always midweek.

I feel like all we do is sit inside going stir crazy waiting for the rain to stop. I have 2 small children and while they’re desperate to go to the park/beach, even they’re not keen in a torrential downpour with everything covered in mud.

I’m sick of all my plans being cancelled, staring out of the window at depressing grey skies and trying to figure out how to pass the weekend without spending a ton of cash on expensive (and brief) indoor activities.

It’s driving me fucking crazy and not an exaggeration to say it’s sending me into some kind of low level depression. 🍷

you need to move to the lovely south east

broccoliforever81 · 25/03/2024 12:07

GoodnightAdeline · 24/03/2024 20:38

A few people have asked me where I live but what difference does it make? It’s completely irrelevant if your exact part of the country has had 14% less rain than mine or whatever. As you can see, posters from all over the country are reporting the same thing.

you don’t live in kent

guaranteed

Find nice child friendly cafes that have fires, jigsaws and are ahout a half hours walk away.

Yeah, OP - find these mythical places. Go on!

🤣

Child friendly and fires don't really go together without or without the flaming jigsaw

broccoliforever81 · 25/03/2024 12:15

It rained all through December. It rained all through January. It rained all through February. And now March.

that sounds so shit!!!

My sister and i had lunch in a pub garden on outskirts of london a couple of weeks ago. Cracking blue sky and sun. Had LOADs of rain free days

I was taking the piss. It was a play on words, a joke.

Oh right - sorry

LuckySantangelo35 · 25/03/2024 12:18

I really don’t know some posters are getting so annoyed that some of us are saying it’s shit weather when it is shit weather! It doesn’t have to rain so much in March in uk, it just doesn’t, many years it doesn’t

RobinEllacotStrike · 25/03/2024 12:19

the only thing you can change OP is your attitude.

No matter how annoyed and sad you get, the weather gives no fucks for that. No matter how many times you demand "sunny picnic weather" (for example) has no bearing as to the weather.

so either find more stay indoors wet weather activities you like & do those, or wrap up and embrace the weather & get outdoors.

ILostMy20s · 25/03/2024 12:20

It's just rain. Unless it's acidic, you're not going to melt being exposed to a bit of rain.

I'm a keen walker, and I'll walk even if it's raining, since it still beats being shut inside all day. Often, it's nicer walking on a wet day since it means it's quieter. Fewer people around with badly controlled dogs etc. And you soon dry out afterwards anyway.

If you're one of these people who doesn't venture out unless it's picture perfect blue sky day with no risk of rain at all, then yes, I imagine it's frustrating. But life's too short to waste it worrying about getting wet.

user68901 · 25/03/2024 12:23

I agree with you Op ! I have had it up to here with the rain. My dog hates it , i hate it and i am sick of it . I’m in the south east and i reckon we’ve had 2 nice days since the start of feb. .
i have all the kit for rain but that doesn’t make it remotely pleasant. And i don’t remember it being this bad for a long time.

Cherrysherbet · 25/03/2024 12:24

We can’t do anything about the weather op!

You sound like you’re having a tantrum, but it is what it is!!

I would never expect to have a picnic in March 🤔

😂😂Within half hours walk from me I can find muddy fields, a flooded river and a corner shop. Great!

Not everyone can do what you are able to do, though. And not everyone enjoys walking in the rain. I don't! A bit of drizzle, fine. Chucking it down, no thanks.

It is odd how so many people can't accept that the weather this past six months or so has been unusually awful and people are understandably fed up of it.

Moveoverdarlin · 25/03/2024 12:29

I agree whole heartedly with everything you have said OP. It’s utterly fucking miserable. We were very close to booking a sunny holiday in the Feb half term. It was going to cost 4-5k. In the end I said let’s not bother, it’ll be stressful with the kids and flying from Heathrow, it’s a lot of money etc. So we stayed home and did nothing. It shitted it down every single day. We walked the dog, we got covered in mud, the kids fell over, the dog was caked. We live in a lovely part of the world, big garden, but it was still bloody awful. Never again. I was hoping Easter would be better but it’s not looking like it. I’m in the South West but like OP said, it doesn’t make that much difference.

Edited

I’m fed up of it but I don’t feel like it’s ruining my life nor do I feel the need to stay cooped up indoors, that would only make things worse and is a very over dramatic way of dealing with things

Bordesleyhills · 25/03/2024 12:29

Agree it’s been wet but that’s the British weather . Clothing helps, good all in ones from a good manufacturer not the supermarket splash suits ( great but not this extreme ) - a decent coat and boots helps access the outdoors otherwise lots of soft play, museums etc. I understand not everyone likes the cold etc but sadly we seem to get weather like this in the uk.

Tsk. Just take a jigsaw and a flask with you and stop moaning. If you don't like it, visit Granny or go to Greece.

GoodnightAdeline · 25/03/2024 12:30

Well that’s me done on this thread but here’s a summary of the highlights:

Let the rain kiss you

Think of the kangaroos in Australia

Wear leather Australian bush hats which cost £100 each from a remote equestrian supplier

Find nice child friendly cafes that have fires, jigsaws and are ahout a half hours walk away.

Emigrate

The planets hydrological cycle doesn’t care what you want

Woodcraft

Join a nature based craft workshops outdoors learning about herbalism outdoor cooking fungi identification traditional crafts to do with countryside

…all because I said I’m fed up with the rain 🤣

Have a good day folks

Im in Cornwall and yep it’s been wet! Mind you, Cornwall is a soggy county. But climate change will mean wetter, stormier winters and hotter, drier summers. This is the way we are headed.

But I’m afraid I’m in the just out your waterproofs on crowd. I have young DC and a dog and we’re outside loads. Today we’ve been out and are now at home having lunch (and I’m snooping on here) and we’ll be heading out again soon. You can’t change the weather and this is how things are going to be so you’ve got to adjust your attitude I’m afraid.

You can do loads in nature in the rain (including woodworking which is great for kids) or you have to look for local indoor activities. We’ve got toddler gymnastics this week which is brilliant for smalls if you have one locally.

You need to adjust your attitude though if you’re going to remain in this country, this will be continuing for us in the winter. And by the summer time this board will be full of threads moaning that’s it too hot and we’ve had no rain.

The OP mentioned being stuck in all day and being bored, so that suggests that she does have a fair bit of freedom!

What do you want people to say though? Some people may have tried to give you advice on how to embrace the rain and explained why the rain is here to stay. Your attitude has been a bit shitty on this thread and you’re clearly not interested in adjusting anything about yourself. No one can change the weather. Climate change means wetter winters. This is not going away.

You made a thread and people have tried to help you adjust your expectations but You haven’t wanted that so you’ll have to stay grumpy!

March tends to be a bit of everything, weather wise, in the UK. You'll often get a week of sunshine, a week of cold and wet weather, even snow etc. This year it's mostly just more grey and miserable wet weather. More noticeable because it's been very rainy since July.

taxguru · 25/03/2024 12:37

Somehowgirl · 25/03/2024 11:25

@taxguru

I live in the Lake District which is recognised as one of the wetter regions of the UK. My step tracker app doesn't lie!

What's your step tracker app and the fact that you live in the Lake District got to do with the constant rain on the west coast of Scotland?

Did I miss the OP saying she was in Scotland?
